#TutuTuesday: A Whirl Through Time! 🩰

Welcome back, darlings, to my little corner of the internet, dedicated to the magnificent, the magical, the tutu.

It's Tuesday, which means it's time to delve into our #TutuTuesday journey! This week, I'm whisking us back to 18th September, 2018. Oh, what a glorious time that was!

Before we embark, grab a cup of tea (or, if you're feeling especially bold, a glass of champagne!), slip into something pretty, and let's begin our journey. I'm wearing my new powder-pink tulle tutu with shimmering gold accents – it's the perfect outfit for a bit of time-travelling, wouldn't you agree?

(By the way, darlings, if you’re on Instagram, give me a follow @PinkTutuEmma, and tell me your favourite tutu colour! I always love hearing from you.)

Now, where were we? Ah yes, 18th September 2018. This was a pretty busy day! It started with a glorious performance of Giselle at the Royal Opera House in London. It's no surprise it's my all-time favourite ballet - it's truly ethereal! I loved watching the delicate choreography, the beautiful costumes (I swear I spotted a tutu made of actual moonlight!), and of course, the hauntingly romantic story. The audience was completely captivated, as if they were swept away into a magical world. It really reminded me of why I fell in love with ballet in the first place!

But, 2018 wasn’t all about elegant swans and wistful sprites!

There was another, more vibrant, side to the world of ballet back then, one filled with incredible talent and sheer exuberance. A dance company in New York was just starting to wow audiences with a style called ballet street. Think sleek moves, incredible athleticism, and urban landscapes. I tell you, darlings, the combination of ballet and street dance made for an absolutely electrifying spectacle. The energy of it! The artistry! The sheer joyousness of it! You can still find some amazing clips on YouTube. They remind me that ballet, truly, is for everyone. It doesn't have to be bound by tradition or confined to the theatre stage. It can be anything we want it to be!

After that show in New York, I headed off for some well-deserved retail therapy! Don’t worry, darlings, you know I would never miss a good fashion experience. The shops were teeming with gorgeous designs - everything from delicate pastel tutus to dazzling metallic numbers. It was impossible to leave empty-handed. I confess I went a little overboard, but I did it all for my readers!

(Did you see the gorgeous pink, sparkly ballet shoes in the window display of that new shoe shop on Oxford Street? It was almost too much for this girl! It makes you realise just how much a true tutu aficionado knows what a great pink tutu shoe looks like! So glad I managed to grab myself a pair before it got snapped up.)

By this point, my heart was full, and my purse was decidedly lighter. Time to travel! As always, I opted for the romantic, scenic route – a first-class ticket on the Hogwarts Express, err… I mean, the Caledonian Sleeper to Edinburgh. It's hard not to love a journey where the rolling countryside fades away, replaced by the thrill of adventure!

(Actually, darling, as I’m talking about it, maybe a trip to the Highlands of Scotland should be the subject of our next post? You have got to see the beautiful Highlands of Scotland!)

But anyway, I'm back, and the excitement doesn't end there, dear readers! The week leading up to 18th September 2018 was also packed full of dance events! I even got to see a thrilling ballet performance in Moscow! I watched the Bolshoi dancers, whose technical skill and artistic brilliance had me entranced. A show like that would make even the most seasoned ballet-goer feel like a young child again, starry-eyed and enchanted.

(And wouldn't you just know it – right as I was walking through Moscow, I stumbled upon the most amazing shop full of beautiful tutus. Not a single one of them pink though – so rude! Still, you’ll have to believe me – it was fabulous!)

As we come to the end of this little journey, darlings, remember this: there are tutus waiting to be found in every corner of the world, in every decade. Just like a beautiful ballet, every era holds its own magic, and its own style of tutu! Let's keep searching, keep discovering, and keep our hearts open to the world of ballet.

I can't wait to join you next week for another exciting #TutuTuesday! Until then, remember to embrace your inner ballerina and wear your tutu with pride, because in this world, everyone can be a little bit magical! 💖
