#TutuTuesday: A Whirl Through Time! - Post 9745
Hello darlings, and welcome to my little corner of the internet! It's me, Emma, your pink tutu-clad guide to the glorious world of dance, fashion, and, of course, the magical tutus that bring it all together. It's Tuesday, which means it's time for our weekly delve into the captivating history of these fabulous frilly frocks! Buckle up, my lovelies, because this week we're taking a trip back to... 2018!
Now, I know what you're thinking: "Emma, isn't 2018 just yesterday?" Well, technically, yes! But in the grand scheme of ballet history, a mere five years can be a whole other world, especially when it comes to fashion and dance. Remember how we chatted about those fantastic Victorian ballet tutus with the big puffy skirts and the elaborate bodices? Well, 2018 is already seeing some changes from that era.
Imagine this: You're sitting front row at the Royal Opera House, and on stage, there's this stunning ballerina in a beautiful, elegant tutu. It's barely there! Yes, I said it, barely there! Those lovely tutus with the super full skirts, the ones that were so grand, are now a bit smaller, more modern. Think of a flowing silhouette instead of the voluminous one from the Victorian era, a tutu that looks as though it's made of a light cloud of silk! It's a very sleek look, darling, all about elegance and movement.
It's been a fascinating journey watching how tutus evolved. The amazing designs in the early 1900s, those lovely full length, elegant, beautiful gowns worn by dancers in ballets like "Giselle", well, they've come down in length quite a bit! We are still, however, seeing these fantastic designs used in some ballets, in revivals and for certain roles.
Did you know? It's October 2nd, 2018 and something fabulous is happening! The American Ballet Theatre, which is famous for those beautiful dancers and tutus, is holding their gala season at the Metropolitan Opera House in New York City! Just imagine: the excitement, the atmosphere, and of course, those amazing tutus on stage! The gala, it's an absolute spectacle of beauty, a dazzling event with dancers in stunning tutus showcasing some of the greatest works in ballet. I just have to travel back to 2018 and soak it all in!
The other thing that is incredibly interesting about tutus in 2018, is the amazing variety of materials used. We are seeing lots of modern designs in amazing fabrics that stretch and move with the dancer. The tutus are light, fluid and oh so gorgeous! This really elevates the ballerina's ability to move on stage, allowing them to glide across the floor with more elegance and precision.
Now, I simply adore tutus, all shapes, all sizes. The way a tutu makes a ballerina feel is beyond words, but there’s one thing about 2018 tutus that makes me want to travel there just to see it, and that is The "ballet-inspired" trend! Yes, it's not just on stage, it's everywhere. Those adorable mini skirts in tulle and net, the feminine colours - like the pinks and purples - and even the ballerina hairstyles are seen in fashion all over the place! You just have to go for a stroll around a city like London and you will find them in shop windows. Honestly, the way these fashion trends incorporate tutus into modern styles, well, it's positively divine!
And speaking of London, you just can’t talk about tutus and 2018 without mentioning a certain adorable character from a classic story. That's right, “Matilda the Musical,” with its stage show that brought the enchanting world of children’s literature to life, was absolutely magical, even when I went back in time. Seeing the children’s dancing, their expressive joy and those cute little tutu inspired skirts... it truly warms the heart!
Tutus really are becoming a bigger and bigger part of popular culture in 2018, it seems that the fashion and style world just can't get enough of them.
Okay, darlings, I know this is getting a bit long, but just one more little tidbit before I sign off. Have you heard about a special place called The Tututu in New York City? Well, in 2018, it was just getting started. I’ll tell you more about it soon. They make beautiful ballerina tutus in a shop where you can shop for your dancing needs, including your perfect, personal tutu. And you just know I have to check that out next time I pop back to 2018!
Now, you’ve heard enough about tutus, at least for today! Go out there, feel the excitement, explore and find the tutus that best fit your inner ballerina, your imagination, and your fashion flair. After all, we're all princesses in our own right! And until next #TutuTuesday, keep those toes pointed, and never stop twirling.
Yours in tutus, Emma
