#TutuTuesday Ballet Tutu History: Post 9759 (8th January, 2019)

Hello, my darlings! It's your favourite pink tutu-clad time-travelling ballerina blogger, Emma, back with another exciting edition of #TutuTuesday. I'm so excited to be whisked back to January 2019, a time when the ballet world was abuzz with fantastic performances and innovative trends. Let's dive into the history of tutus together, shall we?

Where Did I Travel To This Week?

Well, this week, my dears, I landed in none other thanā€¦ Paris! Cue the "ooh la la" šŸ‡«šŸ‡· What better place to indulge my love for ballet and all things chic than the City of Lights? Honestly, it's hard to pick just one favourite ballet destination, but there's just something about the Parisian air and its storied ballet tradition that makes it magical.

A Dance with the Past: Ballet at the Paris Opera

And speaking of magic, you wouldn't believe what I witnessed at the Paris Opera. It's an incredibly historic place, my dears, filled with so much ballet history, I swear the walls whisper stories of legendary ballerinas.

Tonight, I had the pleasure of watching "Giselle," a true masterpiece of the romantic ballet era, and the performance was simply breathtaking. The exquisite choreography, the powerful story, and the stunning costumesā€¦ they transported me back to the early 19th century, to a time when tutus were taking centre stage in the dance world!

Tutuland Fashion Trends

While we're on the topic of tutus, it's clear that the 2019 fashion scene was a wonderland for ballet-inspired pieces. Every Parisian boutique seemed to be overflowing with chic ballet flats, delicate lace, and ā€“ my personal favourite ā€“ oh-so-pretty tutus!

Itā€™s actually fascinating how the tutu has gone from a simple performance piece to a true fashion staple, embracing the delicate beauty and elegant femininity that embodies a true ballerinaā€™s spirit.

From Stage to Street: My Parisian Picks

While the classical tutus used in ā€œGiselleā€ stole my breath away, thereā€™s just something about the modern street tutu thatā€™s undeniably chic and versatile. It's all about that flirty and feminine vibe without being overly extravagant. In Paris, I saw so many stunning versions, from soft and flowy, pastel tulle skirts, paired with a plain tee and boots, to a bold and bright pink tulle maxi skirt, perfect for an evening stroll through the Marais district!

Shopping in Style: Where to Find Your Inner Ballerina

For the fashion-forward ballerina looking to add a touch of ballet magic to their wardrobe, Paris truly has it all.

My top spots include:

  • The famous "Bon MarchĆ©": For all the stylish, vintage-inspired pieces, from French lingerie and knitwear to perfectly tailored skirts and blouses. Their tulle collection was truly breathtaking!
  • Galeries Lafayette: For everything glamorous and on-trend. If you're searching for that statement tutu for your next soiree, you'll definitely find it here.

    Looking Forward

As I'm leaving 2019 behind me, I can't help but be excited about what the ballet world holds in store. The tutus continue to evolve and redefine their place in fashion, and it seems everyone's embracing that delicate dance between elegance and empowerment. And for a pink-tutu-loving ballerina like myself, thatā€™s music to my ears.

Don't forget, dears, keep your eyes peeled for #TutuTuesday next week where weā€™ll explore the history of another remarkable time in ballet and tutuland! Until then, spread the tutu love, and keep dancing with joy!

Love always, Emma šŸ’‹

P.S. It's only fitting that on this trip I travelled by train! For me, there's just something so glamorous and quintessentially Parisian about it. I felt like I was in a beautiful vintage film, watching the world whiz by as I sipped champagne and admired the elegant French scenery. The ultimate travelling ballerina experience, don't you think?

P.P.S This weekā€™s special Tutu Tuesday blog coincides with another exciting event. Itā€™s the International Dance Day, which is observed annually on April 29. Letā€™s all raise a glass of bubbly, (or a glass of lemonade, whichever tickles your fancy) to this extraordinary art form, and all of the incredible performers and teachers that bring ballet to life. šŸ„‚
