#TutuTuesday Ballet Tutu History: Post #9808! 🩰

Hello my dearest Tutu-lovers! πŸ’–

It's Tuesday, and that means it's time for another journey through the fascinating history of our beloved tutus! This week we're twirling back to the 17th December, 2019 - just before the festive season really kicked off! It was a busy time for me, what with all the Christmas shopping and rehearsals for the panto!

You wouldn't believe the amazing tutu outfits I spotted on my latest trip - you can find photos from my latest journey in the gallery, just click on the "Gallery" link on the left of this page! (wink) - a truly wonderful experience to behold! You'll see some fabulous costumes - not to mention, I managed to pick up a rather splendid vintage lace tutu! It's absolutely divine! ✨

Back to the history!

The year 2019 saw the world of dance in a frenzy of exciting innovations. Technology was pushing the boundaries of ballet, allowing for even more captivating shows. Remember those mesmerizing holograms? Absolutely breath-taking!

But let's rewind back to December 2019. The month before, I had just returned from a grand ballet tour in Paris. The French capital always wows me with its elegance and breathtaking theatre spaces! This time, I caught the dazzling "Nutcracker" ballet, starring a famous French ballerina who captivated the entire audience! (Spoiler alert: her tutu was absolutely stunning!). The French, I tell you, they know how to dress! But then again, don't we all? πŸ˜„

And did you know that the iconic American Ballet Theatre performed the powerful, modern ballet, "Swan Lake"? It's always fascinating how traditional ballets get reinterpreted in different ways! It was a testament to the dynamic world of ballet. It really makes me wonder what incredible shows are on the horizon! And what tutus! πŸ’«

Now, on this date, 17th December, the UK was a symphony of festive joy. People were decorating their homes, indulging in mince pies, and perhaps even the odd mulled wine! It was a time for Christmas cheer! As for myself, I was on the lookout for the perfect vintage holiday-themed ballet dress for the panto. And guess what? I found it! Imagine, a pale pink silk tutu with a touch of sparkle and a stunning garland of holly embroidery! It looked like it was straight out of a Victorian Christmas card! How wonderfully charming! πŸ’–πŸŽ„

Speaking of charming... This was the date when Disney launched its streaming service, Disney+, featuring an incredible range of films, series, and… gasp!… documentaries about the magic of ballet! You can imagine my excitement, not only could I watch amazing films and TV series but now, I can explore the depths of the history of dance, from its beginnings in royal courts to its glorious modern transformations. If you're a Tutu-lover like me, I urge you to check it out! You'll thank me later. πŸ’–

2019 was also the year that a whole new era of social media stars emerged! Ballerinas like the incredibly talented Misty Copeland inspired millions across the globe with their talent, determination, and grace. A whole new generation is falling in love with ballet thanks to these digital ballet dancers! So exciting! ✨

As always, my dearest tutu-lovers, remember that you don't need a fancy occasion or an extravagant performance to feel like a ballerina! All you need is your very own tutu and a heart full of joy. Remember, life is meant to be danced, not just observed!

*I want to know your favourite ballet memories from 2019! And don't forget to show off your own twirls this Tuesday by rocking your most fabulous pink tutu! πŸ’– #TutuTuesday #PinkTutu #BalletLove *

Yours always, in a twirl!

Emma xx
