#TutuTuesday: A Whirlwind Through Time – Ballet Tutu History

Post Number 9823

Hello my lovelies! Emma here, your pink-tutu-wearing time-travelling ballerina extraordinaire, bringing you another instalment of #TutuTuesday: Ballet Tutu History! Buckle up, because today we're venturing into the year 2020!

Ah, 2020… what a year it was. Before we all went into lockdown (don’t even get me started on the comfy tracksuit phase!), it was a time for glitz, glamour, and, of course, tutus! And as your trusty time-travelling guide to the world of dance, I'm here to take you on a spin through the ballet tutu trends of this most peculiar of years.

The year started strong! The January sales were bursting with all the latest tulle styles, and the stores were buzzing with excited dancers and dress-up enthusiasts (let's face it, who can resist a sparkly new tutu?!). It was truly the golden age of tutus – or so I thought…

I was particularly enamoured with the vibrant colour palette popping up on the tutus this year. From sunshine yellow to deep sapphire, there was a shade to suit every ballerina's taste! Even I, your devoted pink aficionado, had to admit that these other hues were certainly stealing the spotlight. And don't even get me started on the embellishments! Feathers, sequins, you name it - it was all the rage!

But let's not get carried away with fashion - there were also some momentous ballet performances taking place in 2020. It felt like every company was bringing out their best repertoire. I flitted across the globe, watching a bewitching performance of “Swan Lake” in Paris, followed by a mesmerizing "Giselle" at the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow. Oh, and can we talk about the sheer joy of “The Nutcracker”?

Remember that magical feeling of seeing a real-life sugar plum fairy twirling onstage? It never gets old, my lovelies.

Of course, it wouldn’t be a true Emma Pink Tutu Blog post without me indulging in some shopping and delicious treats. Oh, the clothes! The ballet-themed everything! In 2020, even high street stores were jumping on the ballerina trend with cute tutus, dance-inspired accessories and dainty ballet flats. I could've spent all my time exploring these new and exciting collections – imagine, my own little world of ballerina fashion!

But the true magic of 2020 for me was the sheer number of new dancers. I could see the spark of love for dance in everyone’s eyes! Children, teens, even adults – it seemed everyone was rediscovering their inner ballerina! Every ballet class I popped into was bustling with a new generation of dancers.

It’s the little things, really, like watching a young child’s face light up at the first tentative pirouette, or seeing a seasoned ballerina performing with such grace and fluidity, that reminded me why I love travelling through time to share these wonderful ballet stories with you.

It wasn't all sunshine and sequins though. 2020 took a turn that none of us could have predicted… The year that was meant to be all about celebration was thrown into chaos. With a new reality in play, theatres went silent and ballet companies were forced to take the stage online. While a virtual experience is nothing compared to the thrill of a live performance, seeing dancers adapt and innovate was incredibly inspiring.

But, remember, my dear lovelies, even during difficult times, we still have the power to bring some magic into our lives! Whether we're dancing in our living rooms, dreaming of grand ballet halls, or simply putting on our favourite pink tutus for a twirl around the house, ballet always brings joy and wonder.

So, let's hold on to that magic, embrace the love for dance, and remember that no matter what challenges lie ahead, a pink tutu and a good spin can always bring a smile to our faces. Until next time, keep twirling!

Much love,

Emma x
