Tutu Tuesday: A Whirlwind Through Time! #9838

Hello my darling tutu-loving lovelies! ๐Ÿฉฐ

Itโ€™s me, your favourite pink-loving, time-travelling ballerina, Emma, and itโ€™s another glorious #TutuTuesday! Today, we're diving deep into the delightful history of tutus, and oh, what a journey we're in for! Let's hop on a glamorous train and travel back in time to a period steeped in tutus, fashion, and a dash of intrigue. Buckle up, because this week, we're landing in the glorious year of... drumroll please... 2020!

Oh, what a time to be alive, especially for a tutu aficionado! As we all know, the year 2020 was a whirlwind โ€“ but through it all, tutus remained a shining symbol of grace, elegance, and pure joy. We may have been stuck at home, but our love for tutus never faltered, and they, quite frankly, took centre stage in so many online performances and classes, making us all feel like graceful swans โ€“ even if we were in our living rooms.

But let's go back to the origins of this fantastic piece of dancewear, shall we? This trip will take us all the way to the 1830s, my darlings, and the heart of Romanticism. Before tutus were a symbol of elegant femininity, the ballerinas of that era wore billowing, calf-length skirts that severely hampered their movements! Thankfully, dancer and choreographer, Marie Taglioni, decided "Enough is enough!" โ€“ imagine having your movements restricted by cumbersome fabric, right? This is where the famous story of "La Sylphide" comes in! Imagine a ballet inspired by fairies!
Now, you'd think ballerinas would have immediately embraced a new world of freer, more exciting movement โ€“ but oh no! There were grumblings, nay, screams from the older ballerinas who said, "This is far too revealing! We can't just expose our ankles and calves!"

But luckily for us, this ingenious and beautiful "sylph-like" tutu took hold, a skirt shorter than their predecessors, allowing ballerinas to twirl with newfound freedom. It was the beginning of a tutu revolution โ€“ and for this, we say "thank you" to Marie Taglioni!

As we step through the centuries, the tutu continued to evolve and reinvent itself. Think classic Romantic tutu, or those gorgeous long and flowing tutus we see in Giselle. Now, fast forward to the 19th century and the tutus got shorter, evolving into the form we know as the Classical Tutu. That beautiful, tiered, pancake-shaped, puffy tutu โ€“ yes, this is what comes to mind for most of us when we hear the word "tutu"! Now you know why it's our favourite, don't you?

Speaking of tutus, the tutu is such a beautiful symbol of female empowerment. It signifies grace, strength, and the ability to fly across the stage. And it's not just for ballet! Itโ€™s become a global symbol of creativity and artistic expression โ€“ with everyone from fashion designers to everyday ladies proudly rocking these adorable dancewear gems! You can see this reflected in the fashion trends in 2020. Tutu-inspired designs were spotted all over the runway. We were particularly delighted with tulle, tulle, tulle! In fact, the ballet and fashion world intertwined in ways like never before. Designers took inspiration from tutus, while fashionistas borrowed styles for everything from wedding dresses to everyday looks!

Speaking of the past, I spent last Tuesday enjoying the sheer magic of The Sleeping Beauty. It was magical โ€“ all those graceful ballerinas twirling in their pancake-style tutus. As I was walking past a ballet store in New York, I stumbled across this magnificent pair of pointed pink satin shoes. Well, I couldn't leave without them! My wardrobe needed a dose of magic, wouldn't you agree?

Oh my darlings, but we mustn't forget what truly makes tutus a source of pure joy and sparkle - the dancers themselves! Remember that in 2020, we were so incredibly lucky to have talented ballet dancers creating amazing videos for us to watch. I especially loved seeing ballet dancers on social media who were using their platform to highlight amazing ballet companies all over the world. And of course, who could forget the beauty of The Royal Ballet's "Sleeping Beauty", which, my darlings, is pure tutu heaven!

And for todayโ€™s fun and girly post - it's not just about dancing! Think fashion my darlings. My latest find is a truly magnificent collection of tutu skirts, the prettiest pink tulle with beautiful delicate detailing, oh, it just makes my heart sing!
Oh, darling readers, we've come full circle with tutus in 2020. They have certainly remained an essential part of our ballet world and continue to bring joy and wonder! This Tutu Tuesday, remember to embrace the joy of sparkle and twirl, and a little bit of magic, no matter what life throws our way.

And, darling, if you love your pink tutus as much as I do โ€“ don't forget to share your adventures with the #PinkTutu and #TutuTuesday on social media.

Until next week my darlings, have a fabulous week.

Love and hugs, Emma,

From Derbyshire, with love x
