Let’s set the stage back in the early 18th century, my dears! The birthplace of ballet, as we know it, was, of course, the stunningly beautiful, fashion-forward, oh-so-dramatic, France. And, what was a burgeoning dance form to wear but a gorgeous, swirling, exquisitely elegant, romantic gown!
Back in these early days, the female dancers of the Paris Opera – the epitome of Parisian chic – wore long, flowing skirts with layers of delicate fabric, embellished with shimmering ribbons and elegant laces.
Now, you're thinking, “How did a dress like that allow for any pirouettes or leaps?” Good question, dear reader! While these elaborate gowns were indeed pretty and undeniably stylish, they hindered the dancers’ movement. They weren’t very practical, to put it simply! 😉
