Tutu Tuesday: A Whirl Through Ballet Tutu History - #9946!

Hello lovelies! Welcome back to Pink-Tutu.com! It's another glorious Tutu Tuesday and I'm brimming with excitement! As you all know, I'm on a mission - to share the enchanting world of ballet tutus and get everyone wearing pink. Pink is simply fabulous! And believe me, there are some pretty amazing stories behind those magical tulle layers...

Today, I'm stepping back in time - oh yes, my trusty time machine (which is actually disguised as a ballet barre... shhh!) has taken me to 9th August 2022. That was just last year, but still, it feels like a different world! Imagine a world without TikTok dances! 😱 Anyway, I just had to hop over there because that very day, the wonderful Paris Opera Ballet staged a Sleeping Beauty gala! Isn't that utterly delightful? Of course, I couldn't miss the chance to check out the tutus in action - and I found some absolutely stunning examples, truly fit for a princess!

Speaking of tutus, we can't ever forget about Marie Taglioni, darling! Now, she was a revolutionary force in the ballet world, you see. We have to thank her for the introduction of the Romantic tutu. She basically revolutionized women's dance attire, replacing those clunky and rather suffocating full skirts with something light and airy - and she made it pink! Well, peach, actually - very similar to a yummy peach sorbet! The Romantic tutu was all about graceful movement and elegant lines - truly a masterpiece. It made it easier for ballerinas to float across the stage and let their pas de bourrée do all the talking! (Yes, a "pas de bourrée" is a ballet step, you posh lot! 🤣) And speaking of revolutionary, just look at the tutus today - there's so much experimentation going on! They're adding lace, feathers, you name it - anything to add more glamour and dazzle to that breathtaking silhouette!

While I'm lost in dreamy tutu talk, I have to tell you about something even more special I found during my time travel adventure. There was an absolutely fab exhibition at the Victoria & Albert Museum in London! Oh, you must must visit that museum! It has all the history of art, fashion, and... yes... ballet tutus! Now, they are showcasing these gorgeous pieces - you know, like costumes from Swan Lake, The Sleeping Beauty, Giselle - you name it! It was like a fairy-tale land for tutus! They had tutus from different periods, demonstrating how the shape and design changed over time. I actually found a little sketch book filled with tutus, sketched by a famous designer - talk about fashion inspiration!

Anyway, the exhibition wasn't the only exciting thing I found during my visit to August 2022. Oh, let me tell you about the fabulous street performance I saw in Paris! 🩰 A whole group of talented dancers were showing off their skills with a fantastic "ballet flash mob!" I’m totally planning a similar event for Derbyshire. I’m gonna put on my pink tutu and get some of my best mates to join me in a spectacular routine! We can do a little jig by the Chatsworth House lake or the peak district and see what happens - perhaps we'll even find ourselves a time portal there. Who knows what adventures might await us in the realm of time travel!

It’s been an amazing journey through time. And as always, I can't resist picking out a few "must-have" pink tutus for my darlings to admire...
