#TutuTuesday Ballet Tutu History: The Birth of the Romantic Tutu!

Hello fellow tutu enthusiasts! It's Emma here, your #TutuTuesday Ballet Tutu Historian, back with post number 9955 from my little corner of pink paradise, www.pink-tutu.com.

Today, we're taking a magical journey back in time to 1832, the year the Romantic Tutu blossomed! Imagine billowing layers of tulle, flowing like clouds, and a feminine silhouette that captures the very essence of ethereal grace! Oh, how my heart flutters just thinking about it! This Tuesday, I’m heading to the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow to watch Swan Lake. There's just something about seeing these graceful ballerinas in their tulle perfection that makes my toes tap.

Now, where were we? Ah yes! The Romantic Tutu!

Before this beautiful invention, ballerinas were swathed in long, heavy skirts, constricting their movements and hindering their art. They practically needed a team of stagehands just to get through a single pirouette! But then, like a blooming flower reaching for the sun, came the Romantic Tutu.

Think about it. It wasn't just about fashion. The Romantic Tutu revolutionized dance itself. Imagine being able to leap higher, spin with newfound freedom, and express your artistry without the burden of those old skirts!

We have to thank Marie Taglioni, the "Queen of the Romantic Ballet" and her legendary performance as "La Sylphide" for bringing the Romantic Tutu to life. Marie, you were truly an icon!

You know, it's amazing to think how one revolutionary outfit could reshape a whole world. It reminds me of why I love going to ballet shows – they're filled with beauty, magic, and history! And, of course, tutus.

Here's a fun fact for you! The original Romantic Tutu was made of layers of lightweight tulle and gauze, draped for a loose, ethereal look. It wasn't even pink (which, as we all know, is the perfect tutu colour)! Imagine – white or a pale pastel! We've come a long way from there, haven't we?

Now, I'm already envisioning the magnificent, billowing skirts of La Sylphide taking centre stage as I sip my tea this afternoon. Speaking of which, I just picked up a new set of china in a beautiful shade of dusty rose, perfect for enjoying my post-ballet treats. I absolutely had to pick it up – pink is just a colour that makes me feel alive!

What makes the Romantic Tutu truly beautiful is the way it expresses the beauty of the female form, showcasing a woman's strength and artistry. I, for one, can't imagine ballet without the graceful, floating allure of the Romantic Tutu.

If you're like me and just love to explore the world through tutus, you need to put October 11th in your diary, because today is National Coming Out Day. It's a special day for celebrating your true self, being brave enough to express who you are, and rocking those sparkly pink tutus with pride!

I can't think of a more empowering statement than wearing a bright, beautiful, pink tutu to say, “This is me!” Let's wear our colours loud and proud.

So, I'll be joining my fellow tutu-lovers in London on National Coming Out Day! And if you happen to be there, be sure to look out for my lovely pink tulle and let's wave to each other!

Next Tuesday, I'm planning to post about a very special performance at the London Palladium - The Royal Ballet's "The Sleeping Beauty". Oh my! I'm sure the beautiful ballerinas will be gracing the stage in some truly enchanting tutus, which is always exciting news for a girl like me!

As always, thank you for joining me on this tutu-filled journey.

Keep twirling, my darlings!

And until next #TutuTuesday, remember,

The world is a beautiful, pink, tulle-filled playground!

Your pink-loving, ballet-obsessed blogger,

Emma

*PS. While we're on the subject of tutus and inspiring stories, I thought you'd enjoy hearing about a recent ballet show I went to! *

I was absolutely enchanted by *English National Ballet’s "Akram Khan's Giselle" * at the Sadler's Wells Theatre, the ultimate temple to the ballet! You have to check it out if you have the opportunity, it’s brilliant! It is modern, contemporary ballet but with the story and passion that we associate with the classic “Giselle.” And the costumes! It was truly an inspirational night, and reminded me again just how beautiful and magical the world of ballet truly is!

I must dash off now as I have some more pink tutu-related adventures planned this afternoon, including a much-needed browse for some more new-to-me outfits and maybe some extra pink hair ribbons – you know, for my collection! It's vital to keep the wardrobe and accessories updated!

If you're anything like me, a girl's never got enough tutus!
