Tutu Tuesday #10004: A Whirlwind Through Time - 19th September 2023!

Hello darlings! It's your favourite pink tutu-clad time traveller, Emma, back for another week of Ballet Tutu History! Today, I'm twirling through the fascinating world of dance in 2023, right here in... (insert location, e.g. New York City, London, Paris, etc). Oh, what a time to be alive! Ballet is more popular than ever, and let me tell you, the tutus are out of this world!

First off, I have to say, the trains in 2023 are just fantastic! They're sleek and speedy, whizzing me around like a feather on a gentle breeze. I spent a few hours in London yesterday, marvelling at the theatre district, popping into quaint boutiques and grabbing a spot of afternoon tea (with extra clotted cream, of course!) I even caught a breathtaking performance of Swan Lake - the dancers were exquisite, and those tutus... just dreamy!

But back to the date! What makes today so special, you ask? Well, it's the anniversary of the world-famous dancer, Margot Fonteyn! Imagine, a whole year since this beautiful ballerina graced the stage! She was the epitome of grace and elegance, and her signature soft-pink tulle tutu in Sleeping Beauty remains an icon to this day.

Now, while in London I couldn't help but pick up a few treasures at a vintage clothing shop. The selection was absolutely divine! I discovered a delicate lace tutu from the 19th century that looked almost magical - and naturally, it’s a pale shade of pink! The shop owner told me all about how ballerinas used to wear long skirts over their tutus until the mid-20th century. But what’s not to love about a simple yet elegant design that accentuates a dancer's every movement?

The trends in the world of dancewear these days are fascinating! Gone are the days of stiff and heavy tutus. Now, dancers are embracing lighter, more comfortable tutus that allow them to move with unparalleled fluidity. I even spotted some innovative tutus crafted with intricate patterns and dazzling embellishments! They're so vibrant, they practically glow on the stage!

But, no matter how times change, one thing remains true: tutus hold a special magic. From the ethereal flow of the tulle to the timeless silhouette, a tutu encapsulates the grace and elegance of ballet.

I was lucky enough to bump into a famous fashion designer on the train today. She told me all about the new “Pink Tutu Trend" and how everyone’s wearing them from the catwalk to the high street! She’s using pink tutu inspiration in her collections! I mean, what’s not to love about a pop of colour that adds a playful yet sophisticated touch? It’s both romantic and fun, and let's face it, the world can definitely use more pink and tutus!

And speaking of trends, the Ballet Street scene is truly on fire! From TikTok to Instagram, dancers are taking ballet and expressing themselves creatively through street dance! It’s captivating, bold and wonderfully expressive. Seeing these young dancers interpret classical moves in new ways is incredibly exciting!

On a serious note, let's not forget the invaluable contributions of Ballet to society! The grace and discipline it instills in dancers, the emotional power of performances, and the unifying spirit of shared artistry - it's a testament to the extraordinary impact ballet has on our lives.

And that’s it for today! So, what do you think? Should everyone wear a pink tutu? I say "absolutely!"

Until next Tuesday, my dearest dancers, let's keep the passion for ballet alive and celebrate the magnificent history of tutus!

Now, off I go to a delicious dinner at a Parisian cafe - with a fabulous ballet show to follow, of course! And don’t forget to visit www.pink-tutu.com next week for another amazing Tutu Tuesday blog post!

Keep on twirling!

Yours truly,

Emma, your pink tutu-obsessed time traveller!
