#TutuTuesday Ballet Tutu History: Post #10067! 🩰💖

Hello lovelies! Emma here, back from another time-hopping adventure! You know I couldn't let another #TutuTuesday go by without sharing a new fascinating fact from the wonderful world of tutus! ✨

Today, we're venturing into a rather festive date - December 3rd, 2024, my darlings! I found myself right in the heart of Paris, the city that breathes romance and art. And of course, Paris is a treasure trove of stunning tutus - I even spotted a few ballet street performances and treated myself to some lovely new Parisian tutus to wear while I explore. (Did I tell you the fabric was just heavenly?)

Now, back to the history of the tutu. As many of you know, this iconic garment hasn't always been the light and airy creation we see today. In fact, its journey has been quite a fascinating one!

So let's step back in time and peek into a fascinating ballet fact…

On this very date in 2024, the legendary The Nutcracker was likely gracing a stage somewhere in the world. A timeless classic, The Nutcracker features one of the most memorable ballet costumes - Clara's shimmering white tutu! Now, you may not know, but Clara’s original tutu had much more volume than the lightweight, graceful tutus we associate with ballerinas today.

Imagine this, lovelies! Back in the 19th century, tutus were often called "tutus à panier" - "tutus in a basket". They were made of rigid material, creating a skirt shaped like a cage and propped up by wire hoops.

Isn't that incredible?! It’s hard to picture those tutus next to the light and flowing tutus we know and love today, isn't it?

Speaking of graceful flow, my lovely Derbyshire town just hosted an incredible ballet street performance. I danced to a beautiful classical piece, and the audience was completely mesmerized!

But we're not just focusing on ballet today, lovelies! December 3rd marks the anniversary of many important historical events around the world! A famous French actor or maybe even a ballet legend might have celebrated a birthday this day - wouldn’t that be the ultimate #TutuTuesday coincidence?

I just love these little snippets of history! To be honest, I find myself often feeling as if I’m living out some grand adventure. But my true adventures are funded by my ballet performance fund, so I have to do my best. I may have a penchant for lovely pink tutus (a touch too extravagant some might say!) but at least I’m keeping ballet history alive, don’t you think?

Don't forget to share your thoughts and tutu-tastic finds with me on Instagram @pink_tutu! We’re already making some exciting plans for my next trip - the New Year’s Eve ball in Vienna perhaps? Maybe I’ll even try out a valse or a waltz!

Keep dancing, my dear friends, and may all your Tuesdays be filled with sparkle and the magic of tutus! 💖
