Hello my gorgeous tutu-loving darlings! It's Tuesday, which means it's time for another jaunt through the wonderful world of ballet history. Grab a cuppa (with pink sprinkles, of course!), and get ready for a whirlwind of tutu-tastic times!
Today, my lovely lot, we're twirling back to the glorious year 2025. Now, let's be honest, 2025 wasn't exactly the pinnacle of tutu fashion (no offence to anyone, my sweet darlings!). There was a trend towards what they called 'modern minimalism', whatever that means. Can you imagine trying to perform a grand jeté in a plain, boring outfit?! It's enough to make a ballerina weep!
Luckily, those lovely people still clung to tradition on stage, at least for classical ballet, so tutus were still a major player. But there was a shift, my darlings, a slight deviation. They started to play with shapes, going beyond the classic pancake style tutu and the romantic bell-shaped ones we adore. The 2020s seemed obsessed with 'modern dance,' and modern dance seems to have less of a love affair with tutus (such a travesty! But maybe I’ll save that for another Tuesday…).
Now, if you ask me, 2025 wasn't the best year for tutus. But what we lack in originality, we make up for in sheer beauty! Let’s rewind a little to some highlights, shall we?
Tutuland Time Travels! On this very date in 2025, there were three amazing shows going on that caught my tutu-loving eye:
- Royal Opera House, London: This is always a treat, darling! I actually popped in last week to see "The Nutcracker". Those glorious tutus on the Sugar Plum Fairy! Absolute dreams.
- New York City Ballet: This ballet company always has such breathtaking tutus! They seem to be experts at modernising without ruining the original style, so you’ve still got that perfect ballet romance in every production.
- Palais Garnier, Paris: Oh, the majesty! Paris is a true ballet capital. Just imagine the magnificent tutus gracing the stage at the Paris Opera! The sheer opulence is almost too much for one ballerina to bear, honestly!
While tutus might have gone through a 'modern' phase back then, it’s nothing we can't handle! Remember my darling, a good tutu is a timeless investment. I’m hoping that maybe one day we'll have a big pink tutu revival! One can only hope, my lovelies!
Speaking of time travel... My latest travel expedition took me all the way to Venice! Oh, how I do love those gondola rides! My tutus did rather clash with the gothic architecture, darling, but the romanticism! Absolutely stunning! I found some incredible vintage tulle and lace shops in the Rialto market – just perfect for adding a touch of Parisian glamour to my collection!
Of course, all this travel doesn't come cheap, so you know what keeps this ballerina ticking over? Dancing! I found a delightful little theatre tucked away in the heart of Venice that welcomed me with open arms. The owner, a man with twinkling eyes and a fondness for the colour pink (no surprise there, dearie), was happy to offer me a guest slot in their weekend performance! We all had the time of our lives. It was, dare I say, tutu-ific!
Stay tuned next Tuesday, darlings, for more history-making adventures in the wonderful world of ballet and, of course, tutus! Don't forget to subscribe to www.pink-tutu.com to never miss out on any updates!
Until next time, remember: be kind, be sparkly, and always embrace the power of a pink tutu! 💕🩰
With a twirl and a sprinkle of love, * *Emma xx
