#TutuTuesday Ballet Tutu History on 2030-04-16

Hello my lovely Tutu Twirlers! Welcome back to another installment of #TutuTuesday, your weekly dose of all things pink and fluffy! This week, we're diving deep into the history of the ballet tutu, and trust me, you won't believe how far we're going! We're hopping on a time-traveling express train (because a train is just the most stylish mode of transport, don't you think?) and setting our sights on 16th April 2030!

This week's trip has been especially exciting because, well, just look at my fabulously fluffy new tutu! Isn't it divine? (Let me know in the comments - your feedback means the world to this tutu-loving girl.) This one's made with layers and layers of hand-dyed tulle, in shades of bubblegum pink and rose quartz, and it's simply dreamy. Of course, to match my magnificent tutu I've also donned a little blush-coloured, silk number that fits like a dream and some glittering pearl jewellery. Who says pink and sparkles are only for princesses? I say, embrace the glitz! And as you can tell from my vibrant blush, a touch of lipstick can take your outfit to the next level!

Anyway, back to our trip to the year 2030. The journey was rather fascinating, full of flashing lights and exciting sights that even my experienced time-traveling eyes had never witnessed! I wouldn't dream of spoiling the surprise, but I will say that even the carriages themselves were bedecked in pink! What could be more appropriate for our #TutuTuesday journey, right?

In 2030, the world of ballet is alive and buzzing. The artistry is simply incredible. This is, of course, no surprise to me; I know that ballet has always been a constant through the ages, evolving, twisting and twirling with each passing century.

For example, I learned a fascinating tidbit this week: ballet companies in 2030 are much more focused on creating eco-friendly and sustainable costumes! They're using recycled materials and organic dyes, all while making the costumes just as captivating and inspiring. That really brings the beauty of sustainability and style together!

But of course, what’s a ballet show without the perfect ballet tutu, right? I spent hours at the most stylish costume shop in all of London (remember my motto - a trip is never complete without a little shopping!) And believe me, their selection was breathtaking! There was an endless supply of colours and fabrics - they've really embraced the tutu's journey since its early days in the 17th century! Back then, you could only get the ballet tutus in white... shudders such a lack of creativity! Now the possibilities are endless and you know, they just keep getting bigger and puffier! Just imagine a sky-high tutu in dazzling rainbow hues! Oh my... it just might rival my slightly smaller, more subtle tutu. (But mine has my favourite colour, you know! ?)

Oh, and while we're on the subject, there's also a surge of interest in street-style ballet! In the year 2030, it's absolutely bursting with the fun and flair of this spectacular art form. You know, like dance-themed street festivals, dance battles in the park, you name it. All with pink tutus! What’s more stylish and iconic than a ballerina taking on the world? I'm absolutely in awe of the dancers’ dedication and how they make the art form truly accessible!

I managed to sneak into a dance competition (always looking out for new inspiration) and I was stunned! This "street" ballet thing - well, it's totally different! Imagine all the styles we love, jazz, contemporary, street - combined and danced on a big stage in the city, all around the world. And they all have a twist - they wear tutus, sometimes a fluffy tutu, sometimes a sparkly tutu, sometimes a shredded, grunge-tutu and sometimes no tutu! The freedom is breathtaking, just like a fabulous pirouette. And to think they call the classic ballet tutu an outdated “Romantic era” piece... who needs that when you can create and inspire a new movement!

Before we head back to the familiar comfort of my time, I’m absolutely determined to make my little time-travel escapade worth your while! Now, let's take a deep dive into that history I mentioned!

Firstly, imagine life without tutus! They are literally what makes a ballet costume complete! Think about it: it’s not just a dance piece, it's also a vital part of the dance itself, a testament to how the dance evolved, highlighting the beauty and athleticism of a dancer. Imagine the iconic dancers throughout history - Anna Pavlova, Margot Fonteyn, Rudolf Nureyev, Mikhail Baryshnikov – and those incredible costumes, with all those frilly tutus - they literally take you to a dreamland of elegance!

Speaking of which! The ballet tutu evolved along with the world of ballet, changing over the decades, like the colour and styles of my clothing. Can you believe that ballet used to be all about grand gestures and formal costumes! (Imagine that! Who’d want to do a simple pirouette when you’re clad in heavy silks?) Then, the French Revolution hit! The new generation embraced shorter skirts and skirts for dancing became shorter! Imagine what it was like - a revolution happening around the world at the same time!

As for the 1800s, they saw the birth of what we call the Romantic tutu, that one-layered and very much delicate and floaty tutu. It’s the symbol of ballet, for sure.

And for the fun part: those iconic tutus are back and more fabulous than ever before! And that’s no surprise! There’s nothing quite as mesmerising and elegant as a true ballet tutu – I would say it's the dance world’s true Cinderella shoe - perfect and graceful. They just ooze class. Imagine the thrill of spinning around and getting caught up in the fluff, feeling the air on your skin and the energy of the performance. I bet those 18th-century dancers never had this feeling!

Now, the future seems like a world full of creative innovation for tutu-loving souls! And it looks as though it'll be full of even more variations of the iconic tutu, each as dazzling and captivating as the last. This brings a little light and flair to all dance forms, no matter what style! Imagine a whole street lit up by tutus! Now, that's a dream. I may need to start looking into how I can create a #TutuStreet – I bet it’d be fabulous!

So, what's next for my little ballerina-turned-blogger? Well, it's pretty clear – we need to explore more tutu styles and learn about every aspect of the amazing ballet tutu! Maybe one week we'll talk about a more recent one - The "Super Tutu," which you often see with a much fuller look (remember those 1960s and 70s ballerinas!?)
