Hello, darling Tutu lovers! Welcome back to another #TutuTuesday on www.pink-tutu.com, your go-to destination for all things pink and tutu-licious!
This week, we’re whisking back to the 2030s, and boy, are things glamorous! My time travel gear is gleaming in the light reflecting off the polished brass of the old-fashioned train I just hopped off in glorious New York. There's nothing like travelling in style, even if it does involve the occasional time anomaly... but hey, who needs to be on time when you’re surrounded by beautiful, swirling tutus!
Speaking of which, I just finished an absolutely smashing performance with the New York Ballet Company. As if I'm saying anything new! Their costumes are just heavenly; so much sparkle and movement, and they just fly! If you can imagine a tutu flying around the stage, it was like watching magic, darling! The whole performance left me absolutely mesmerised, and let me tell you, I had the biggest, widest smile plastered on my face all evening, like a Cheshire cat.
Speaking of magic, let’s dive into today's Ballet Tutu History. You might think, darling, that tutus have been twirling around the world forever, right? Well, hold your horse feathers! You'd be surprised, darlings, how long they've actually been making these wonderful fluffy costumes for us. You can blame, or maybe thank (depending on your view of it), a lovely chap named Charles-Louis Didelot who designed the first actual, proper tutus back in the late 18th century, way back in 1781 if you can believe it!
But hold on to your tiaras, darling! It was only the late 1800s that the "tutu", as we know it today, started taking shape, you know, with the romantic ballet era and all!
These first, and still very special tutus, were usually quite long, just like those worn by our elegant princesses in fairytale stories. In the 19th century, they got significantly shorter. By the start of the 20th century, the 'romantic' tutu took over, giving us all the big, poofy romantic tutus that you can’t help but fall in love with. They just ask to be twirled!
Over the years, we’ve seen so many styles emerge! I just adore the pancake tutu - perfect for high-energy choreography and those lovely sharp movements you find in contemporary ballet. Of course, we all remember the tutu that inspired a thousand fashion designers back in the 1950s; the classical tutu. You know, that short, perfectly shaped tutu made out of tulle, the iconic one, like we’re used to in a lot of shows today. It’s all just a masterpiece of fabric engineering. Just imagine the time it took back in the day to create such a show-stopping costume, painstakingly stitched layer by layer with intricate details... the artistry is breathtaking!
Of course, no conversation about the ballet tutu would be complete without mentioning my absolute favorite color! Pink! Pink, darling, it's like a symphony of delight, a visual poem that melts hearts! Don't you think? From light and girly to bold and powerful, it can say it all. It’s the colour of love, of hope, of joy... all of the things that I just adore. I can't imagine wearing a different color. A pink tutu simply sparkles in the limelight, dancing in harmony with all that pink that’s in the world.
