#TutuTuesday: Ballet Tutu History - Post 10415

Hello darling tutu lovers! It's your favourite pink-clad time traveller Emma here, back with another fabulous #TutuTuesday dive into the world of the most magnificent garment ever invented: the tutu!

As always, I'm bringing you a blast from the past from my most recent time travelling adventure. This week, I've just stepped off the Orient Express after a whirlwind trip to 2031 – imagine, darling, the outfits, the music, the food! We landed on the 5th August, a day that seemed to be overflowing with a delightful mix of historical events and glamorous social gatherings. You'll have to believe me, darling, but they’ve completely cracked the flying car conundrum and were whisking around in a dazzling display of colour, whizzing about like sparkling butterflies!

But I digress! We are here for tutus, and you'd better believe I was in my element. This is a time when the tutu is thriving – it's not just confined to the stage anymore, darling! I saw everyone, from high-fashion designers to everyday folks on the streets of Tokyo, sporting tulle with confidence and flair. You can thank the new generation of ballerinas, a truly magnificent group of fierce, talented ladies who aren't afraid to express themselves in every outfit and movement they make. It's an exciting time for tutu lovers!

Speaking of history, today's focus is on a rather fascinating moment – the first documented tutu being designed in pink! Can you imagine?! Yes, it happened in 1832 – the tutu really was the pinnacle of Parisian fashion then! Of course, pink tutus weren't for the stage yet. But think about it, darling, imagine being the first ballerina to waltz across the stage in a gloriously bright pink tulle creation. A breath-taking sight, I’m sure, and undoubtedly a game changer!

Speaking of game changers, I just have to talk about what happened at the Opera Garnier that night – a stunning performance of Swan Lake that had me completely entranced! They were wearing those beautiful classical white tutus that look like clouds. So elegant and so floaty!

Now, onto something even more important for you tutu connoisseurs - this month saw a revolutionary design from a famous couture house in London that took the world of tutus by storm: they have managed to sew an LED system into the tulle itself! Darling, can you imagine, tiny sparkling lights shimmering as ballerinas dance across the stage? Truly a spectacular sight that will surely change the future of dance costumes!

My adventures this time are starting to get a little crazy! Tomorrow I am off to Paris for the annual International Tutu Ball, the crème de la crème of tutu events! There's going to be an auction for a one-of-a-kind tutus designed by none other than Vivienne Westwood herself! I can't wait, darling. The highlight is definitely going to be a breathtakingly detailed recreation of a Renaissance ball – you have to picture it – it will be a real showstopper!

And with the world taking to the stage in tutus of all shades, I’m absolutely certain that pink is about to take over! We're talking bold, sassy pinks - think hot pinks, coral pinks, raspberry pinks. Everyone from ballerinas on pointe, to actors performing Shakespearean dramas in outdoor theatres to musicians on stages worldwide are adding splashes of pink to their ensembles. It's exciting, darling. It's exhilarating. It's the pink tutu takeover!

Let's be honest, darling, I was already completely smitten with pink, and it doesn’t hurt that it's said to inspire optimism, love, and compassion, but I must confess, seeing pink on everyone makes it feel even more magical.

Do you wear a pink tutu? If you don’t already, I suggest you pick one up immediately – after all, the future of fashion belongs to the fabulous and daring – those who embrace colour, fun, and just a little bit of whimsical brilliance!

And while you’re waiting for the postman to deliver your new tutu, darling, have a fantastic #TutuTuesday and don’t forget, I'll be back next week with even more delightful tales from the magical world of ballet and tutus! Until then, remember, my darlings: life is just a ballet, and there's a tutu for every single occasion.

Your time-travelling fashion friend,

Emma x
