Catford Calling! TutuQueen Diaries: Post #157

Hey darlings! It’s your girl, Pink Tutu Sparkles, back with another installment of my fabulous TutuQueen diaries! Get ready to grab your pom-poms and prepare to swoon because we're going on a trip to Catford, darling!

You know, a girl's gotta have a bit of fun on the road sometimes, and what better way to get away than a whirlwind adventure to the big smoke? Especially with a grand pink-tutu-powered performance to do. Catford is known for its thriving theatre scene and vibrant, creative energy, and I can’t wait to bring a little bit of pink sparkle to the streets.

Now, I know you’re probably wondering, "Alex, darling, how do you even get around in that massive tulle?" Well, chérie, I’ve got a secret. My travel style involves a lot of whimsical and, of course, pink-filled choices! When I can, I adore travelling by train, it gives me the perfect chance to indulge in a spot of glamorous reading or to simply gaze out at the world, soaking in all that fabulous scenery. Plus, I never have to worry about finding a parking space, ha! Sometimes, if I feel especially adventurous, I'll hop onto a horse (that's what you Brits call a bus!) to see where the day takes me. The point is, I’m all about finding the joy in every journey, you see!

As for my costume, oh darling, my Pink Tutu Sparkles uniform is an absolute must on this adventure! After all, I’ve got to make sure everyone is aware that TutuQueen is in town! You see, it’s all about spreading the message of love and laughter, always with a dash of pink!

To get you in the mood for Catford, let’s rewind a little. Now, it might come as a surprise to some of you, but I've always had this thing for tutus. Yes, it's true! It all started when I was back in Derbyshire, you see, studying for my science degree at that lovely little university. We all need some extra joy in life, and when I joined the university's ballet club, there was a charity event that included trying on tutus - well, darling, that was my moment. The feeling, the movement, the way the fabric twirled, oh it was so amazing. But my love of all things ballet has been with me forever. It’s poetry in motion, it's a magical escape, it's an emotional experience, it's everything in one beautifully fluid art form!

And while I do all this ballet-loving, during the day, I actually get to work with fabrics as part of my day job. I know it sounds ridiculous to have that double-life - a scientist testing textiles, and a drag queen performing! I’ve got to admit, my life might seem a little bizarre to some, but it makes sense for me. There is nothing better than bringing a bit of glitter to science, you know? Because even if it doesn’t quite sparkle when I'm working on fabrics for my everyday job, I still bring my passion and joy to my lab. And who knows, maybe I'll discover the perfect new fabric to make a sparkly tutu that will last forever, imagine!

So, let's dive right into my Catford escapades. First up, a visit to The Broadway! Now, it’s an absolute must-see spot for any theatre enthusiast, especially if they have a pink tutus like mine! Imagine the enchantment of walking through this lovely street, lined with all the bright lights, all that thriving creative energy... it was just what I needed after a long day!

For this particular adventure, I decided on a bold colour scheme! A fuchsia-pink tutu was my base, a colour that is so bright and fabulous - I'm just drawn to it like a bee to honey. I teamed it with a fluffy white, off-the-shoulder crop top to add a dash of softness. And to complete my outfit... I've always believed in the power of sparkly heels and a statement necklace. I felt utterly dazzling, it was a joy to take on the world in this amazing getup.

Now, Catford has a wonderful theatre scene, filled with independent studios, so naturally, a ballet class was the next step. Now, I have a thing about classes, let’s be real: I’m absolutely obsessed with ballet. Even with my busy life, I have a bit of a routine - if I’m on the road, I have to find a class, whatever the city! And as always, I am sure to spread the love of tutus and inspire the others to step into one (it's an idea, after all)

The dance studio I landed on was tucked away down a quiet, unassuming back street. Inside it was absolutely sparkling with creative energy - like nothing I’d ever seen before! Now, I might have added to the sparkly factor just a bit by waltzing into the room in my tutu, just saying. But honestly, I think all those dancing ladies loved it. Who doesn’t love a good dose of tutus?! For this occasion, I had the brilliant idea of packing a pink-sparkly hand mirror to really elevate my ballet game. Just think about the elegance and grace with which I held the mirror - it reflected the twinkling of my tulle and let’s just say I felt a real sense of self-expression. Of course, there was no way I could resist striking a few dramatic poses, but we were all about to practice so, I tucked it away, with a tiny wink, and took my place.

With my tutus dancing gracefully, and with every graceful movement and whirl of my skirts, it was almost like nothing else mattered, you know? Just my tutu and my heart moving with the rhythm of the music. And don’t even get me started on the amazing choreography... it just had me utterly enthralled.

Afterwards, we did what any self-respecting ballet class must do, have some lovely refreshments, all while enjoying an extended conversation on the history of tutu design and all things ballet-related.

With the excitement still buzzing through my limbs and a new appreciation for the power of ballet, it was time to find myself some delicious tea and scones. My darling, my journey continued to The Catford Broadway Shopping Centre - the epicentre of retail therapy and a must-visit for anyone on a quest to find the perfect outfit or fashion finds.

It didn't take me long to find what I was looking for. There was a charming little vintage clothing boutique. After rummaging through a truly sparkly collection of vintage accessories and fashion, I landed on the most beautiful emerald green coat I've ever seen - it shimmered in the light and reminded me of an enchanted forest. Now, we all know a bit of green always brings the pink out in you, right? This coat added the perfect pop of colour to my look and will no doubt be essential for my next adventure.

Of course, any outing always ends up being bigger when I’m there, darling. You see, one of the beauties of travel is connecting with new people, and while in Catford, I met a group of incredibly creative locals who told me all about their theatre group that just happens to be organising a costuming and fabric-making event. My darling, when they heard that I was in town, they were absolutely thrilled that Pink Tutu Sparkles was making a visit. I can’t wait to join in on the excitement - my imagination is running wild with inspiration.

As evening settled and the city started to shimmer, it was time for me to prepare my magnificent performance for my Catford show - a small pub in a hidden corner of the city. My costume was a simple and sleek lavender tutu to match the soft light in the bar, just a touch of glitter to make my sparkle, but it did just the trick to charm my audience. I chose to go with lavender this time as a calming color that everyone loves! And to make the outfit complete, I threw on a bright hot-pink wig and matching makeup, giving my look a little bit of an extra touch of fabulousness. I must say, I looked absolutely amazing on stage - the lighting and atmosphere just threw a magical glow on my sparkle, making me look even more pink and perfect.

And darling, the Catford audience - they loved me! My heart melted seeing those smiling faces and hearing all the laughter. I told them my story - a bit about myself, a bit about my passion for pink tutus and of course, my dreams of bringing joy and sparkle to every single corner of the world. And the applause? My darling, you know I had to do a few extra twirls.

As the last song faded and the cheering subsided, I felt that familiar glow of gratitude for being able to share my passion for pink tutus. You see, when you wear a pink tutu, you aren't just putting on a costume, darling, you are stepping into a world of magic, a world where anything is possible! It’s a statement of love and laughter, it’s a way to embrace life and be your true self. My journey in Catford was filled with so much delight. It is truly a place where art and fashion and creativity just thrives, it’s something to be admired.

So, to my Catford friends, I'll be back. Pink Tutu Sparkles is always up for a good time and an adventure, especially in a place with so much love and beauty to share. And for all you reading, I encourage you to step outside your comfort zone and embrace a bit of pink. Wear your tutus, wear your colors, and spread the joy to the world! And until next time, keep shining bright. And remember, it's never too late to put on a pink tutu, darling! Because even if you don't always wear a pink tutu, you should always wear your heart on your sleeve.
