Bulwell Bound: A Tutu-ful Time in the City of Flowers!

Pink Tutu Sparkles, reporting for duty!

Hello my darlings! It's your girl, Pink Tutu Sparkles, bringing you another installment of my ever-expanding "Pink-tutu-fied World" - a celebration of life, colour, and a sprinkle of glitz and glamour. Today, we're heading to the City of Flowers itself, Bulwell, nottinghamshire! This is my 226th blog post, a testament to my relentless pursuit of all things fabulous! If you haven't already, get your paws on a sparkly pink tutu and follow along, let's do this!

I'm all about bringing the colour, and there's no better way to brighten someone's day than a bit of tulle! If you don't know by now, I am quite smitten with the whole ballet scene - my love affair with tutus started whilst studying my Science Degree! A dear friend persuaded me to try one on for charity at the uni ballet club - the rest is, as they say, history. By day, I’m Alex, a scientist dedicated to testing fabrics, but when the clock strikes five, the sparkle starts! You’ll find me shimmying and shaking in a pink tutu, my very own creation! I love to create dazzling ensembles and there is no greater feeling than the way it all moves on stage, flowing with the rhythm and telling a story. My mum still laughs at the fact that my very first "look" for the uni ballet club, involved a bright pink, handmade tulle tutu that nearly matched my childhood barbie’s wardrobe, which was pink of course. It was from that moment I was truly a Pink Tutu Sparkles at heart.

It's true what they say, 'Diamonds are a girl's best friend' but give me a glitzy, feathered pink tutu any day! It's got to be fluffy! My tutus tell stories and they're all about positivity, empowerment, and unleashing your inner fabulousness - and who better to tell that story than a drag queen with a serious penchant for pink! My motto is simple - wear the colour, wear the tutu, make a statement! The rest is all glitter and fabulousness, darling.

This trip, though, was a tad different from the usual whirlwind tour. No trains this time - I decided to embrace a touch of "Old World Glamour" by embarking on a whimsical horse and cart ride through the lush countryside to Bulwell, Notts. You'd think someone like me would have an aversion to dust - but with the wind in my hair and the rhythmic clip-clop of the horse's hooves, I felt truly connected to nature, which is something I truly believe in! And when in doubt, well, my trusty facemask always makes an appearance - practicality and pink tutu are not mutually exclusive my dear!

*Let's talk Bulwell - It’s full of surprises! *

Bulwell itself is a quaint and friendly place. Think, bustling market, historical pubs and plenty of "Olde England" charm. After all, when in Bulwell, why not soak up all that English charm! I performed at a delightful local event held at a traditional pub called "The Jolly Botanist" (what a fabulous name, isn’t it?). It’s an ancient and rather grand establishment, in a beautiful village, but a tad shady to be honest. A perfect setting for some classic, English drag drama – and drama there was!

My showstopper was, of course, my legendary "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star" performance – but with a twist! I decided to make it a touch more theatrical this time with a stunning light show in pink. It was pure spectacle! It's always wonderful to see audiences gasp in amazement - it's moments like these that I truly feel my impact - not to mention I love how the light creates this magnificent “halo" of pink tulle! But before the final encore, I decided to shake things up a bit by performing a heartfelt accapella ballad with a message about love, positivity, and wearing pink. You know me, I can't just stick to the typical routine, and it's lovely to share a story, with meaning.

After my set, I even ended up dancing with some of the audience. Oh my! The most charming local woman, who shall remain nameless, pulled me on the dance floor and took me for a whirl around. Now, she looked very sweet but her dance moves were surprisingly energetic! They reminded me of a flapper from the roaring twenties, but she must have a very strong core! A truly amazing time, with true camaraderie, it's truly wonderful that I am able to share moments like this with so many.

Speaking of "twirling" - my highlight of this trip, apart from the delicious pint of cherry and lemonade I snatched up from the bar, was my unexpected trip to the local Bulwell Academy of Dance!

You see, this place isn't just your ordinary dance school. They even had their own stage! They have an amazing dance teacher called Brenda and she taught me a lovely little choreographed number - and yes, you guessed it! We did it in a sparkly pink tutu of course, which I gave her to wear for her amazing ballet work, with some pink gloves for extra fun. We rehearsed for a whole morning - she is amazing! My dear readers, you know what a ballet nerd I am, so it truly was an honor for this pink tutu enthusiast to share some of the "pink" love and my "pink-tutu passion" with her. And the best part? All the students who were there just stared at Brenda and me. Their faces were priceless! A moment of sheer, utter fabulousness, right there in Bulwell! We really did "Pink-tutu-fy" their dance class, and Brenda, as the school's wonderful dance teacher, gave the pupils a real insight into my wonderful pink tutu world, and encouraged everyone to spread a little joy in life with some of my unique Pink-Tutu-fying advice. I am sure the local "tutu" dance classes were truly "Pink-tutu-fied". The whole day was an unforgettable experience, not to mention we took a very charming selfie!

*More than just "tutu" for this queen! *

Of course, my travels are never complete without a good old-fashioned fashion fix, darling! There is nothing more satisfying than being in the company of lovely clothing items, and as you know, pink and sparkling tulle are a girl’s best friend! But let me be clear, my darling - a true queen is about more than sparkles and fluff! I know many people out there judge my life and my choice of "wearables" but to be honest it’s all part and parcel of being different and showing others that "pink is cool!" I like to explore life's rich tapestry and embrace everything it has to offer (except the colour blue, of course, we’ll save that for another blog!).

That is what Pink Tutu Sparkles is all about - embracing diversity and encouraging others to celebrate their unique style! I’m really keen on working with young people, showing them that they can be exactly who they want to be - and with a pink tutu, anything is possible. Who would have thought a fabric nerd like me would become a queen of "pink"!

The best part is seeing the joy it brings to others! It's magical, my darling! We all have a little pink tutu inside, it’s just a matter of unleashing it! So my dears, take a deep breath, wear that tutu with confidence - because life's too short not to wear pink!

Until next time, darlings - keep the sparkle shining bright!
