Cambridge: Pink Tutu Sparklesā€™ Adventures (Blog Post #813)

Oh, darling, Cambridge was simply divine! You wouldnā€™t believe the adventures this Pink Tutu queen got up to in this historic city, a real fairytale for the senses! This post, my 813th, is all about how even a pink-loving drag queen can have a perfectly lovely time on a budget ā€“ and in a town filled with brains and knowledge!

You see, dear readers, Iā€™ve always loved the elegance of a ballet performance, but you wouldnā€™t believe the chaos I encountered before even getting to the actual show. First, letā€™s talk about the journeyā€¦ The train ride from Derbyshire to Cambridge is like a trip through a vintage film: the lush green countryside whizzing by the window, charming little towns, and a cup of proper tea to soothe my soul! As soon as I board that train, I put on my sparkly reading glasses (which of course match my fabulous Pink Tutu outfit!) and read through the fashion magazines I collected on the way, all while the people in those tweed jackets keep staring. Oh, the joy of being the colourful bird amongst the sparrows!

Reaching Cambridge was like stepping onto the set of Pride and Prejudice. I just love all the cute old cobblestone streets and little cafes. Honestly, it reminded me of that time when I did my Pride and Prejudice themed show for a local pub fundraiser, remember those adorable Regency-era costumes?! Oh my, the memoriesā€¦

Now, where was I? Ah, yes, the show. This particular ballet performance was at the beautiful Corn Exchange ā€“ a majestic, circular theatre dating back to the 17th century. It was perfect for showcasing the dancersā€™ graceful movements against the backdrop of ancient architectural charm. Even the most simple, delicate steps felt amplified within the venue's romantic grandeur. I just sat and gazed, entranced.

Of course, no trip to Cambridge is complete without a visit to the Cambridge University library, it was full of fascinating tales! My very own drag persona has definitely been inspired by all those fairy tales ā€“ they all had such colourful characters! It just proves: a little bit of magic and sparkle is good for the soul. And besides, who wouldnā€™t want to see a library filled with a dazzling array of stories written in colourful ink? It was truly awe-inspiring.

Later that day, I took a delightful stroll along the River Cam, admiring the graceful willows that kissed the water. My favourite outfit for that outing was a pink tutu, yes, a bright pink one, worn over a simple pink satin gown, accessorised with a huge pink fascinator adorned with feathers! All I needed was a tiny pink parasol and I would have been a vision. Of course the locals had never seen anything like it! The ladies had a gobsmacked look and some men even said good morning, such polite people!

But then came the real challenge: dining! Letā€™s be honest, the Cambridge cafes seemed to offer endless beige menus, such bland options! This Pink Tutu Queen prefers the colourful palette ā€“ vibrant flavours and delicious spices are just the way to bring the party! Youā€™d think a science student, which I also happen to be, could have discovered some fun new taste combinations, wouldnā€™t you? Eventually I discovered the ā€œhiddenā€ part of town: the trendy cafe hidden away on King's Parade, tucked in the back, off the main street! Now that is the kind of cafe this Queen can adore. It offered a wonderfully pink smoothie ā€“ it looked so perfect and tasted delightful! All that sweetness got me all inspired for the evening's performanceā€¦

Oh, the excitement! A vintage ballroom dance in Cambridge's famous Guildhall. For this gig, I knew I needed something truly spectacular! That's when I had a lightbulb momentā€¦ What if I combined my scientific knowledge with my drag persona? Remember my job? Testing fabrics in my science lab? It sparked the most perfect ideaā€¦ My new show! It was themed around ā€œThe Science of Sparkle!ā€, and guess what? My costume included hundreds of shimmering sequins! And guess what?! It was science -based! I used my knowledge to choose just the right sequins for the outfit ā€“ to capture light in just the right way to create a real, tangible "sparkle" - because that's my trademark! I got quite a few laughs ā€“ a little sparkly show can go a long way.

And thenā€¦ it was time to leave. The train back was as peaceful as before - maybe a little more tired than the first trip - and oh! How could I forget! The horsesā€¦ my second mode of transportā€¦ a magical pony carriage took me from the train station to my next performance in this medieval village - which you wouldnā€™t believe was in Cambridgeshire, but I canā€™t give you the details. Oh, it was divineā€¦ The villagers couldnā€™t believe a Pink Tutu Queen could arrive on a horseā€¦

All this talk about Cambridge made me feel truly happy! It wasnā€™t all sunshine and roses though. In fact, in true British fashion, there was some gloomy rainā€¦ And as the saying goes, rain or shineā€¦ A Pink Tutu Queen will never back down! So, I whipped out a fabulously bright pink raincoat ā€“ no dull gray for this queen! - which matched my trusty pink umbrella ā€“ it felt so wonderful being able to go about my day and still spread my bright colours!

So darling, this journey was like a big pink bubble bath, full of laughter, fun, and memories. Remember, the key to being happy is to live with joy in your heart. Wear pink, wear your fabulous tutus, and let your true self shine, wherever you are! Thatā€™s my message for the world: Spread the Pink Tutu love, because itā€™s definitely a wonderful world, filled with even more wonderful opportunities for every pink-loving queen, king, prince or princess!
