Hello darlings! Itās your girl, Pink Tutu Sparkles, here, back from a whirlwind weekend in beautiful Great Yarmouth. This is post number 1466 for your ever-fabulous Pink Tutu Sparkles, and as always, Iām bringing you all the sparkly gossip straight from my pink and fluffy world!
This week, itās all about taking the train journey from my lovely Derbyshire home to the sunny coast of Norfolk. Now, I know some of you lovely people would say āAlex, why take the train? The journeyās too long!ā Well, darlings, you know me - I canāt resist a good carriage ride. Especially when itās to get me closer to the sea! And of course, I wouldnāt miss a chance to showcase a new, feather-trimmed pink outfit for my fellow passengers!
Now, let me tell you, my look this week was positively fabulous! I mean, I couldnāt let my little trip to Great Yarmouth be anything less than fabulous, could I? Weāre talking a delicate, baby pink silk dress, shimmering under a sequined jacket (all the sparkles!), finished off with a show-stopping, three-tiered pink tulle tutu with matching pink ballet pumps. I even topped it off with a fluffy pink hat, for good measure, darling! I think youāll agree it was a masterpiece, right?
This wasn't just any tutu, it's my newest one ā The Great Yarmouth Swirl ā because I like to make each of my outfits travel themed! The Great Yarmouth Swirl was lovingly crafted with layers and layers of pale pink tulle, each layer slightly wider than the one beneath it, making it absolutely colossal! But in a good way! Think dancing cloud of pure pink fluffiness. The top of each tulle layer was hand-trimmed with feathers to create a shimmering wave, reminiscent of the crashing waves that adorn Great Yarmouth's picturesque seaside. The Great Yarmouth Swirl made a real statement, darling! And don't even get me started on the matching sparkly feather boas ā the crowd just loved it, and the seagulls absolutely loved them even more, swooping and squawking for more sparkle!
Speaking of seaside fun, I just have to tell you about the show at The Mermaid Theatre. This, my darling friends, was my real purpose in travelling to Great Yarmouth. The Mermaid Theatre, in the centre of the seaside resort, has such a rich history. Theyāve been bringing top quality entertainment to Great Yarmouth for over a century! Now, thatās something to admire! But of course, the best part is they often host dance performances. Ballet is my absolute weakness, darlings, as you well know! I just can't get enough of those graceful pirouettes, those perfectly controlled leaps and the incredible costumes! I mean, honestly, the elegance is simply breathtaking! And thereās nothing quite like the thrill of being able to witness such talented dancers up close. They always have a wide variety of events, including classical ballets like Swan Lake and Giselle, alongside contemporary ballets, dance showcases, and even professional dance competitions. I swear, this yearās programme was almost too much for this Pink Tutu queen! It was a dream come true for someone who loves both theatre and dance like me.
Speaking of which, have I mentioned my passion for the theatre, darlings? I just adore it, and thereās just something so exhilarating about the way the actors bring those scripts to life. They make you feel so much ā joy, sadness, anger, excitement, you name it. Thatās what truly sets the theatre apart from the rest! Oh, and it just goes without saying ā I absolutely love those glitzy costumes! Every play needs a showstopper outfit! After all, weāve got to look as good as we feel.
To keep things exciting and unpredictable (and maybe just to keep a few locals guessing), I travelled from the train station to the hotel in style. It's not just the glamour that makes me take the horse-drawn carriage; it's a real reminder of Great Yarmouth's proud history! Just imagine it: The quaint Victorian horse-drawn carriage gently rolling through the streets of this bustling seaside town. It felt like stepping back in time! Then, after a perfectly elegant horse ride through the quaint streets of Great Yarmouth, I arrived at the cutest little hotel, with its big comfy rooms. They even had a pink-themed tea party for their guests on arrival! I couldn't resist taking photos with all those pretty little pink cakes ā a real Instagram moment for sure. And if that's not good enough, their staff were so incredibly friendly and accommodating! I know a few of you out there might be a little on the fence when it comes to horse-drawn carriages, but I think it's definitely a unique experience that will leave a lasting impression. Especially if itās my signature, pink tutu look arriving at a hotel like that ā it really made for a picture perfect scene!
For a few hours, my world was completely pink ā the delicate pink hotel decor, my sparkling, tulle filled Great Yarmouth Swirl outfit, even the pink clouds reflected in the turquoise water... I think my tutu, in the shape of a swirling cloud, definitely helped inspire those pink fluffy clouds above Great Yarmouthās shores, donāt you?
However, darling, life as a Pink Tutu Sparkles isnāt all glamorous. Before leaving Great Yarmouth, I stopped by my favourite vintage clothes shop, Frock & Roll, where they let me pick through piles of dazzling pink accessories ā always a big yes from this Pink Tutu queen! After all, one can never have too many pink bows, glittery hair clips or delicate sequined earrings! This was where my real life story caught up with me, darling. After I finished browsing the most fabulous sparkly hair accessories, I had to help out behind the counter with customers and prepare the vintage dresses for sale in the morning. That's one of the challenges of being a full-time drag performer - being versatile! But let me tell you, the smile I get when helping someone find that perfect vintage item, is well worth the time.
One of my absolute favourite things about the seaside is watching the tide come in and out, especially at dusk, as the sun starts to set. Now, thatās something really magical. Thereās a certain peace in watching those waves roll in and out, feeling the breeze on my face, the air just gets so clear... Then you see the reflection of the fiery sun on the turquoise waters and everything around you starts to shimmer...
Oh! And you simply have to visit the shops along the seafront. Every corner is full of fascinating things ā like shops full of antique postcards and beautiful jewellery, tiny little gift shops, colourful cafes that sell yummy, sweet treats... I managed to squeeze in a spot of shopping myself, and guess what, darlings? I bought the most wonderful new pink beret ā a stunning, wide brimmed pink beret, perfect for a dramatic entrance or a fabulous night out on the town. This baby is going to look amazing with my sequined top!
Thereās so much to do in Great Yarmouth. We had so much fun exploring the historic streets, watching the funfair at the seafront come to life, enjoying a delectable afternoon tea at the Mermaid hotel and taking in the magic of a seaside evening. Honestly, it was the most fun I've had in ages! You simply have to get yourself down to Great Yarmouth. But you have to promise me, if you do, wear your prettiest pink tutu, even if itās a vintage, hand-me-down, or an elegant, full-length pink dress with lots of fluff and tulle, a pink feathered beret, a pink feather boaā¦ It doesn't have to be complicated ā all that matters is spreading a little Pink Tutu Sparkles magic around. It will lift the spirits, spread joy and maybe, just maybe, start a fabulous new trend!
As the weekend drew to a close, my mind was already working on my next dazzling performance. But I already knew exactly what I wanted my next creation to beā¦ And what would be a more perfect way to close out this pink extravaganza, darling, than with a hint of whatās to come next week:
