Abingdon: A Pink Tutu Paradise! (Post #1498)

Darling, it’s Pink Tutu Sparkles here, ready to dazzle you with another travel tale from the fabulous world of tutus and travel. Today’s adventure takes us to the charming town of Abingdon in Oxfordshire. I absolutely adored this town!

Now, I know what you’re thinking. “Abingdon? Isn’t that just…ordinary?” And to that, I say: Darling, get out of the ordinary, it’s just too boring!

I must tell you, getting to Abingdon was an adventure in itself. The journey, of course, involved my faithful companion – a horse, naturally!

No, darling, it wasn’t a miniature Shetland, although I’m sure it’d be perfectly fabulous. It was a full-sized horse! The owners of a lovely pub called The Crown in this village decided I was just the kind of sparkly personality they needed for their horse drawn carriage races. What could a girl say? After a delightful glass of prosecco and a couple of “cheeky” sandwiches, we were off in style, the clip-clop of horse hooves a delightful rhythm to my own dazzling pink tutu, that perfectly matched the sunset colours!

Oh my, the journey was utterly gorgeous. Abingdon is set in such a gorgeous countryside, with charming stone buildings and so many lovely little shops. And let me tell you, Abingdon just screamed pink tutu.

Before the races I managed a spot of window shopping. I found some adorable accessories and the most delightful little shop crammed with every possible shade of pink – it was like a fairyland for a tutu obsessed girl. I managed to restrain myself to buying just a few items; a lovely pink felt beret (you know I adore a beret) and some amazing iridescent glitter fabric, perfect for embellishing the edges of my upcoming show outfit!

After the races, I found myself performing for the lovely folk of Abingdon at the town's market, right there in the bustling square! Oh my darling, they loved my act. I danced with the children, charmed the shoppers with my quick wit, and sang a few show tunes with my guitar. There was even a little impromptu drag-inspired ballet class - a fabulous impromptu ballet tutorial for all the lovely locals.

Now, Abingdon was all about the delightful outdoor fun but we weren’t finished. No darling, for Abingdon had so much more to offer.

It's hard to pick a highlight of the day, really.

Perhaps it was the delectable evening meal I had at the restaurant next to the Abingdon Abbey. I can still taste the delightful creamy mushroom risotto with asparagus – divine!

Or maybe it was my visit to The White Hart, the local pub that held a special evening of musical theatre, in a setting with a stunning exposed timber beamed roof - you know, like from one of those Shakespeare plays, darling! We danced and sang and, well, a certain Pink Tutu Sparkles had to make a cameo, didn’t she? I felt so perfectly at home amongst the actors and actresses! It’s safe to say I was more of a theatrical extra in this case, than a glamorous queen! But darling, the performance was fabulous and so enjoyable.

Finally, how could I leave out the amazing opportunity I had to catch the “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” performed in the beautiful outdoor theatre right in the Abbey gardens. The actors had amazing voices and a hilarious take on Shakespeare's timeless work.

So darling, did you ever think you’d catch a drag queen, a horse, a pub race, a few dances, and Shakespeare, all within 24 hours in Abingdon? Darling, it was just divine! I cannot recommend this town enough – it's perfect for a lovely weekend away.

Darling, let me share my secret with you, I think I’m developing an Abingdon addiction! So expect more updates from me soon – I'm already planning my next trip.

If you're looking for a quirky little adventure, one filled with colour, character, and just a sprinkle of glitter, then Abingdon, Oxfordshire is the place to be, just remember to pack your pink tutu, it's obligatory!
