Hey lovelies! 💖 It’s your girl, Pink Tutu Sparkles, back again with another blog post from my travels! Today we’re going to be discussing all things Burton upon Trent – a fabulously historical town in the heart of England!
For those of you who don't know, I'm a real sucker for history, so a trip to Burton upon Trent, renowned for its brewing heritage and iconic Abbey, was right up my street. This was my sixteenth time venturing into the wonderful world of Midlands adventures, and trust me, this place does not disappoint!
Train Travel and Fashion First! 🚂✨
As you all know, there’s nothing I love more than a fabulous train journey! I boarded a gorgeous red steam train, adorned in pink ribbon, just like my very own signature look. 🎀 (This trip took me about an hour from Derby!) The station itself was a visual treat with all those beautiful Victorian brickwork and intricate detailing. It really does make one appreciate the architecture of the past, doesn't it?
And before you even ask – yes, I was most certainly wearing a pink tutu! 🤭 After all, a good tutu is just as important on a trip as your ticket and luggage, wouldn't you say? This one was a shimmering rose pink, with a cascade of glitter and sequins. I teamed it with a tailored pink waistcoat (so flattering!), my favourite pair of pearl-embellished tights and a pink feather boa, for an added touch of “sparkle*. *“ ✨
Now, onto my arrival at the iconic Burton upon Trent railway station. As you can imagine, I made quite the entrance. I saw some very confused faces, but when you catch the eyes of a little girl giggling with delight at your bright pink tutu, it's worth every glance and curious stare! Isn't it just fantastic that you can bring so much joy simply by expressing yourself in the way you feel?
First Stop: The Abbey 🏛️
After a quick detour to the delightful station cafe for a cup of tea, I decided it was time to pay my respects to Burton’s crowning jewel: the Burton upon Trent Abbey. I really love exploring ancient places like this. You can feel the echoes of history, all those whispered stories trapped inside the old stones. They tell you stories in the quiet spaces, and they breathe history into every creaking floorboard and vaulted ceiling.
Of course, I had to capture the beauty of the Abbey in my tutu. It was the perfect setting – all those arched doorways, cloisters, and ornate decorations were a photographer’s dream. The Brewing History of Burton Upon Trent 🍻
And let’s not forget the beer! This town is renowned for its brewing history. It’s absolutely fascinating to learn how a humble pint of beer evolved through the ages. 🍻 (Not to mention all the delightful flavours we enjoy today – I particularly adore a nice amber ale.)
I made my way to the fascinating Brewers’ Association Museum, and was quite enchanted by the story of the brewing process from its origins right through to today's industrial marvels. I couldn't help but imagine those bustling brewers with their aprons and tankards, working away through the long days in the old brickworks, brewing what became an icon of English brewing tradition.
Shopping! The Queen Loves A Bargain! 👑
After all that exploration, my feet were starting to tire a little, but it wouldn't be a real Pink Tutu Sparkles adventure without a shopping spree, right? Luckily, Burton Upon Trent had just what I was looking for: charming boutiques, quirky antique stores, and a plethora of fashion finds. There’s something special about finding a beautiful gem tucked away in an unexpected corner – a treasure waiting to be discovered! 💎
And guess what, darlings? I managed to find the most adorable pink tutu (naturally!) in one of the local antique shops! It was a vintage piece, perfectly preserved, and a delightful shade of bubblegum pink! Just imagine, lovelies! Me, in my bubblegum pink tutu with its delicate netting, and the sparkle in the shop window reflected on the pink glitter and sequins… oh, I looked like a walking rainbow! Rainbow, pink, sparkle! That’s Pink Tutu Sparkles for you. 😉
A Night at the Theatre! 🎭
One can’t visit Burton upon Trent without soaking up the amazing culture on offer, so after my shopping escapades, I made my way to the beautiful Burton Town Hall – one of the best venues in town for performance arts. The interior of the place was stunning, with all its wood panelling, stained glass windows, and chandeliers! And best of all, there was a ballet performance of "The Nutcracker" featuring a brilliant ballerina from Derbyshire (my home county). 🩰
It was magical watching the story unfold on stage! Those graceful leaps, the intricate steps – I swear, for a moment, I could see myself back on the stage in my pink tutu, dancing with all the other young dancers at the university ballet club. Remember, I started out as a science student, never expecting to be a drag queen! But then one day, a few years back, we had a fundraising event for a local hospice, and, for a laugh, I tried on a pink tutu. Needless to say, the rest is history!
Of course, I wouldn't be true to myself if I didn't dress up for the occasion. So naturally, I donned my brightest pink tutu with sparkling feathers, a fluffy pink boa, and pearl-embellished platform heels. I can tell you – my outfit was absolutely the talk of the night! And there I was, seated in the balcony with my little cup of prosecco (it is ballet after all! ) feeling truly grateful to be sharing such an incredible evening with the incredible talent that lit up the stage.
Ending on a Pinky Note:
The day in Burton upon Trent went by in a flash! So many fascinating things to see and so much beauty to behold! One thing is for certain – this charming town is definitely a must-visit for anyone who appreciates history, culture, and good times.
And let’s not forget about that delightful pink tutu. After all, what is a good journey without a little touch of pink sparkle? ✨
