Finchley Calling: A Tutu-tastic Adventure! (Post #1645)

Oh, darlings! You won't believe the excitement! I'm in Finchley! A town known for its bustling market, quaint shops, and – most importantly – its fabulous audiences. I mean, who can resist a queen in a pink tutu, dazzling the crowds with pirouettes and glitter bombs?

This trip was a whirlwind of pink tulle and perfectly planned travel. Honestly, a journey as dreamy as a tutu-filled fairyland. After all, we Pink Tutu Sparklers are about elegance and class, and no way would I take the Tube, darling! No, I took the train. You know, those grand old steam engines that whistle like they're shouting "Fashionable pink tulle alert!" (Okay, perhaps I imagined that last bit.)

This trip has been an absolute blast from the moment I boarded the train at Derby station, my trusty luggage bag stuffed with extra sparkly tiaras (you never know when the occasion calls for a backup tiara, am I right?), a few new tutu designs (my secret weapon - more on that later), and, of course, the essentials for a drag queen – mascara that would make a storm weep, glitter that could make a diamond blush, and my secret pink glitter hairspray – because there's never enough pink glitter.

As the train chugged along, I couldn't help but wonder: where would I go first in Finchley? My heart was screaming "Market!" and who was I to deny such a vibrant, flamboyant, and completely delicious craving? Now, you all know my weakness, it's not the juicy gossip, although that is always an enticing pleasure; it's the stalls filled with beautiful, intricate, utterly gorgeous vintage clothing! So much inspiration for my outfits.

And let me tell you, darling, I struck gold. Found a pair of silk gloves, shimmering pink, you know the sort, just waiting for my latest number – A Swan’s Dream in Silk and Feathers, perhaps? A dash of glittery trim and a feathery flourish? Who can resist the call of silk, and oh the compliments they garnered... My eyes were practically popping out with delight as I sipped my coffee – with cream, no sugar, of course! – while I planned my Finchley performances.

This town just oozes potential, and I'm determined to leave a pink sparkly trail wherever I go.

Speaking of sparkly trails, you wouldn’t believe the incredible performance space I stumbled upon - The Finchley Arts Centre! I love exploring hidden gems like these – they truly hold a touch of magic, like a secret fairytale waiting to be told. The stage was an enchanting box of magic. This is where I'll share my sparkle, my heart, my dance, my… well, my pink tutu, naturally!

After an afternoon spent prepping and designing a show worthy of Finchley (we're talking a full-blown Pink Tutu Spectacular!), I realised my need for an essential, an absolute must-have, a vital element in the life of every Pink Tutu Sparkler - ballet lessons!

Now, don't judge a tutu by its swish – because I know all you ballet dancers out there might think this is strange – I wasn't the star student at the university ballet club! I wouldn't say I'm a complete disaster – far from it. But my best friend is a talented, graceful dancer and I spend many nights trying to steal her secrets to perfect the plie and the perfect pirouette. My secret? Just try a different sparkly tiara each time - makes you look extra fabulous as you fumble and nearly fall on your face - you should see my face contort as I do it, I swear you'd need an oxygen mask to watch!

Thankfully, the Finchley Ballet School was the perfect place to find a tutu-obsessed friend. We are practically attached at the hip. We talk about sequins, and tutu patterns - I swear sometimes she has dreams about pink tutus and that she can hear the tutu whispers from across the room! She says her dream is to create the ultimate tutu – not sure she quite realises what she's getting herself into…

Back in the world of glitter, there is always something going on at the market. This morning I did the most magical thing - I helped organise the most amazing parade through the streets - led, of course, by Pink Tutu Sparkle in all her pink glory. I think Finchley enjoyed the pink surprise! And it certainly was a pink surprise - I surprised even myself when, halfway through, I decided to ditch the performance routine I had meticulously created. And let’s be honest - I can never pass up a good dance-off, especially when you’re surrounded by such lively music! Let's just say there was a little impromptu dance-off and the audience cheered until they were hoarse! I swear, even the ducks on the little lake enjoyed the spectacle.

There is so much to love in Finchley – it's brimming with hidden nooks, shops that have been there since before the Second World War and are packed full of unique, eclectic treasures and quirky charm. A perfect afternoon escape from the madness of city life.

And the best thing? Every single person I’ve met here is absolutely delighted to see a pink tutu! It makes me happy. It really does. You know how I am - my little motto, "Get everyone to wear a pink tutu!" Now, Finchley, are you ready? This week is dedicated to turning you all into fabulous, tutu-clad wonders. The stage is set, the pink glitter is at the ready. Finchley, I'm coming for you!

See you next time for the next update.

Your dazzling queen in pink, Pink Tutu Sparkle.
