Welling Wonders: Pink Tutu Sparkles Takes on the Thames! (Blog Post #1717)

Hey there, darlings! It’s your girl, Pink Tutu Sparkles, here, bringing you another instalment from my fabulous travels. Today, we’re in Welling, a charming little town nestled in the heart of Kent. Now, I know what you're thinking, "Welling? What's in Welling?" Well, my loves, let me tell you, Welling has a heart of gold and a soul that shines brighter than a sequined tutu under a disco ball.

This week, I traded my trusty car for a thrilling journey on the train. Oh, how I do adore those plush velvet seats and the rhythmic clatter of the rails! I'm not a "horse and cart" gal, even though I think they’re ever so romantic and majestic - those hooves clattering on the cobblestones, the clip-clop, clip-clop sound... Oh, the magic of it all!

My destination was none other than The Welling Arts Centre, a haven for culture and creativity, just waiting to be discovered. This place is a little gem, filled with local talent, artistic exhibitions and a theatre space just begging to be twirled in!

Speaking of twirling, my darling friends, what’s a pink tutu adventure without a little bit of ballet? I squeezed in a private class at the centre's very own dance studio, where a lovely group of students were all aflutter with excitement to have me join them. Honestly, we all looked absolutely ravishing, a sea of pink, red, black, and lilac tutus swishing and swooshing. We learned some exquisite steps, twirled till our heads spun, and even dabbled in some graceful stretches. You know me, I love me a good arabesque or a grand jeté. It’s just so wonderfully expressive, it truly unlocks the inner ballerina in every single one of us, don’t you think?

Now, here's the thing about Welling. This little town might not be bursting with bustling nightlife like a city centre, but what it lacks in "street life," it makes up for in charm. It’s those quiet corners that truly surprise and delight. The afternoon saw me meandering through its delightful market, brimming with local produce and delightful crafts. I bought some scrumptious handmade earrings for my dear friend Lucy, the one who inspired me to create my own pink tutu! We’re both absolutely crazy about these adorable earrings, we always match our outfits perfectly! And oh my, don't get me started on the most beautiful handmade jewellery by a talented young local artisan! I just had to buy a dainty silver necklace with a delicate pink butterfly charm, perfect for a touch of girly whimsy with a pink tutu!

In the evening, I put on a little show at the centre's theatre, filled to the brim with friendly faces. I'll tell you, I absolutely love connecting with people from all walks of life through my performance. I twirled and sashayed in my most stunning pink tutu, with every dazzling feather and sequin glistening under the stage lights.

I performed my famous "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star" number, complete with twinkling lights, sparkly confetti, and enough pink tulle to fill a ballet studio. It was absolutely magnificent, leaving the crowd buzzing with applause. It's just magical seeing those eyes light up, the sheer joy in their faces, knowing that you've brought a little bit of sunshine into their day.

Later, I had a chat with the director of the Welling Arts Centre. Such a lovely gentleman! He even agreed with me, that everyone deserves a pink tutu moment in their life. And why not? After all, a pink tutu can represent so much: playfulness, imagination, empowerment. You know, I've seen the confidence and self-love blossom in the eyes of shy little girls when I encourage them to try on my tutus. It’s truly heartwarming.

My travels always seem to offer those delightful little surprises. I found a local tea room called "The Teacup," filled with delicious pastries, clotted cream and a selection of teas fit for a queen (or a queen in training!). As I sipped my English Breakfast tea, I listened to a group of women chatting about the joys of gardening and their hopes of making homemade jam with their garden berries. Such simple pleasures!

I'll leave you with this thought, darlings. It's the small details, the little moments of connection, that truly make a place special. Welling might be a hidden gem, tucked away in a quieter corner of Kent, but the joy it offers is vast and ever-lasting. I might just have to make a return trip soon.

So, that’s it from me, your favourite pink tutu wearing, drag queen traveller! I'll be posting soon from a new adventure, new destination. Until then, stay sparkling, my loves!

With lots of pink love,

Pink Tutu Sparkles

xx

PS

Did I tell you that Welling has the cutest little bookstore? I found this absolutely delightful book called "The Secret Lives of Tutus" - I haven't had time to start reading it yet, but it’s definitely going to be a delightful read. Maybe I’ll bring a book review to you all in my next post! I wonder if I'll meet any more lovely people along the way!
