Barrow in Furness - Post Number 1934: Tutuing around the Lakes! 💖🩰

Hello my darlings, and welcome to another edition of Pink Tutu Sparkles' fabulous adventures! It’s your girl, Pink Tutu Sparkles, here, ready to whisk you away to the magical world of tutus, pink hues, and enchanting travels!

Today we find ourselves in the picturesque, slightly damp, and delightfully scenic town of Barrow in Furness! If you’re not familiar, this charming little haven nestled on the shores of Lake District is truly a gem, and definitely worthy of a visit from even the most discerning of tutu-wearing fashionistas.

Now, you might be thinking, "Barrow in Furness? Sounds a bit…well, ordinary," but trust me, darlings, appearances can be deceiving. This town has a surprising vibrancy, not to mention a stunningly dramatic backdrop of rugged hills and sparkling water. Perfect for a good old fashioned, tutu-clad stroll, wouldn't you say?

Of course, as you well know, my beloved pink tutu accompanied me on this exciting jaunt. We took the scenic route, hopping on a comfy train (always a good time for a spot of primping and preening!), and arrived in style at the charming Barrow Station, which wouldn't look out of place in a whimsical fairytale.

As soon as we arrived, I felt the pull of the stage - I simply had to find somewhere to perform! Now, Barrow in Furness, bless its cotton socks, might not be the biggest hotbed of drag culture, but thankfully, with a little internet sleuthing, I discovered the fantastic 'The Dockyard Tavern', which had a reputation for being open to a bit of 'fabulous'! So naturally, that's where Pink Tutu Sparkles and her trusty tutu headed!

Now, dear readers, it wouldn’t be a true Pink Tutu Sparkles blog without a touch of, shall we say, "fashionista chaos". I won't bore you with details but let's just say the walk from the station to the pub, my luggage and I took a bit of a tumble onto a slippery pavement - the drama! Never fear though, dear ones, as every glamorous disaster becomes a fabulous memory! I emerged, dusted myself off, with a fabulous twinkle in my eye and a sassy flick of my feathered boa, and found myself facing the eager audience at the pub.

The stage was pretty much a make-do platform fashioned out of a few tables (think more 'cabaret' than 'Las Vegas' but still with plenty of pizazz) but let's just say that the audience was fantastic. I’ve found over the years, the best audiences often come from the most unexpected places and the energy in the Dockyard Tavern that evening was pure magic.

For the first time, since leaving the bustling, neon-lit clubs of Derbyshire, I realised that sometimes, simplicity is the ultimate key to success. The crowd was wonderfully accepting and welcoming, they just wanted to be entertained and have a bit of fun. That evening, in that warm and inviting space, I performed like never before - I wasn't even thinking about perfecting a particular technique, I just wanted to bring my brand of happiness and tutus to this charming town!

From belting out "I Will Survive" (still one of my favorite power ballads!) to prancing around with my shimmering rainbow-tastic feather boa and sparkly pink tutu, we danced, we laughed, we shared the sheer joy of performance!

This is exactly why I travel and perform in these seemingly 'ordinary' places, my dears. To bring a bit of magic to someone’s everyday. You just never know who might be inspired to don a pink tutu, and maybe even bring a bit of sparkle into their world!

However, let's not forget the reason we arrived here in the first place – Barrow in Furness’ connection to the iconic Lake District National Park! The scenic views truly lived up to their reputation, especially with the soft glow of the early morning sun and a few happy chirps from some feathered friends! I even had the privilege of meeting a few locals who showed me the secrets of some breathtaking walking trails, which I'll definitely be adding to my next visit’s itinerary.

On a more practical note, dear readers, I just have to talk about the stunning sunset I witnessed during my visit. A blaze of pinks, oranges, and blues across the sky that even Pink Tutu Sparkles herself couldn't compete with! Let's be honest, even a fashion-forward flamingo wouldn’t be able to resist those hues! And you can trust me on this, dear readers, because, you see, I own enough pink clothes to rival a Barbie-themed convention!

As always, I encourage you, dear readers, to venture out, discover the world's hidden gems, and be kind to others – and who knows? Perhaps you’ll encounter a fellow tutu-enthusiast on your travels, and discover the world is a far more fabulous place than you could ever have imagined!

Until next time, darlings, keep on tutuing!
