Hello, darlings! It's your favourite pink tutu-wearing diva, Pink Tutu Sparkles, here! Get ready for a fabulous update on my fabulous life! Today, my post number 1983, is a big one because guess where I am?! That's right, my glamorous glitter-filled soul has landed in the charming town of Ilkeston!
It's always a joy to be back in my home county of Derbyshire, especially after my whirlwind adventures in the dazzling capital last week. Speaking of adventures, I travelled here in true Pink Tutu style - via the majestic might of the railway! I do love a good train journey, especially in my fabulous ensemble of pink lace gloves, a vintage hat with a giant pink feather, and, of course, a fluffy pink tutu layered over my sequined jumpsuit.
I must say, I love how the train carriage felt like a personal runway, everyone looked so mesmerized! The train ride was delightful - it reminded me of one of my favourite childhood memories. My Nana, bless her soul, always used to say, "Alex, a good journey starts with a smile, a wave, and a dash of pink!". She'd always encourage me to wear something flamboyant, even if it was just a bright pink hair clip. I think I was a pink-obsessed toddler long before I became Pink Tutu Sparkles!
Speaking of Nana, she was the biggest fan of ballet and would often take me to performances when I was a little tyke. She’d say, “Oh darling, you’ve got such an elegance, why don’t you learn?” I think her dream for me was to be a prima ballerina, although it’s clear now that my path lay in another form of artistic expression - one that could combine my love of performing and pink! 😉
Speaking of which, tonight, my fabulous fans of Ilkeston, you have a treat in store! I'll be shimmering and twirling at the local fairground. I’m really excited about this one, it’s my first time performing in an outdoor space. I’ve got a brand new pink feather boa for the occasion and I can’t wait to see the look on the faces of the people enjoying the fair! My aim, as always, is to spread a sprinkle of magic, a dose of joy, and the message of embracing individuality with a little pink tutu flair!
You see, my darlings, my journey into the world of drag was an unexpected twist in my life’s story. It was the Summer of '03, while studying for my science degree, and I decided to try out a tutu for a university charity fundraiser. And oh darling, it felt like a revelation!
As the lights dimmed, the music started, and I sashayed in that pink, fluffy confection, the stage lights hitting the sequined fabric… well, let’s just say my inner Sparkles found her way to the spotlight! From then on, there was no looking back! And it’s all thanks to that simple act of wearing a pink tutu.
To think that this lab-loving, fabric-testing scientist becomes the pink-hued sensation that is Pink Tutu Sparkles every night. I love my two worlds and, in a way, I feel they compliment each other. My scientist side encourages a sense of exploration, precision, and constantly learning, and my artistic side encourages playfulness, individuality, and a sprinkle of fun and, of course, sparkle.
As a drag artist, my goal is to show the world that sparkle isn’t just on the stage, it’s in the hearts of each and every one of us. There’s something incredibly empowering about wearing pink and strutting your stuff – it shows that we can be fearless, unique, and proud, just like those legendary ballet dancers of old, but with our own signature sprinkle of glitter, a whole lot of pink, and, naturally, a good dose of joy.
My philosophy, darling, is simple: if I can bring joy to even one person by putting on a pink tutu and twirling on a stage, my job is done! After all, my life’s aim is to make the world a brighter, pinker, more joyful place - one sparkling tutu at a time!
