Bishops Stortford! What a delightful little town nestled amongst rolling countryside and historic charm. It was simply divine to find myself on a quaint station platform, feeling the familiar thrill of a new adventure, and watching my fellow travellers in awe. This town oozes a certain Victorian elegance - cobblestone streets, tea rooms overflowing with scones, and enough antique shops to make your heart sing.
My journey started with a bang ā a vintage steam train! I felt like I had stepped straight out of a Jane Austen novel. My outfit, naturally, was fit for a duchess: a magnificent fuchsia satin gown, my signature feather boa, and of course, my showstopping pink tulle tutu! Letās just say I was quite the sight. The fellow passengers couldnāt help but grin as I sashayed onto the carriage, my long blonde curls bouncing with every step. Itās moments like these that remind me ā you donāt need a reason to sparkle, darling, you just need a tutu.
Bishops Stortford itself is a hidden gem, full of exciting cultural events. It was actually the local arts centre that caught my attention. I always have a soft spot for any place that celebrates the performing arts, especially ballet. I have a dream of touring the world as a professional ballet dancer, but you know me, I love my tutus so much Iāve always dreamt of creating my own ballet production one day.
Imagine it: "The Pink Tutu Waltz," starring me! With a spectacular cast of flamboyant fairies and handsome prince charming-type dancers all swirling and pirouetting in a whirlwind of pink tutus. Now wouldnāt that be a show to remember?!
But enough of the fantastical dreaming, darlings! This trip was all about the here and now. I had an amazing time attending a delightful performance at the Bishops Stortford arts centre. It was a beautiful ballet rendition of a classic, and even I, with all my glitzy theatrical sensibilities, found myself totally captivated by the graceful artistry and elegance on stage. Afterwards, I went backstage and even managed to chat with one of the dancers, who was wonderfully inspiring, sharing stories of his journey into ballet and his own dreams of international performances. Iām sure you can imagine the excitement in the air - pure magic!
After the ballet, I indulged in a little bit of retail therapy in Bishops Stortfordās charming boutiques. I picked up the most divine blush-coloured top, perfect for pairing with a whimsical ruffled tutu. There's something about finding hidden treasures in little shops that just brings me joy! And who wouldnāt want to indulge in some local handmade delicacies ā delicious chocolates and a massive afternoon tea filled with pink, of course!
One of my favourite moments was spending the afternoon with a local riding school. I canāt resist the appeal of a good horse, they have such graceful poise and gentle personalities ā so like my inner diva. I had a lovely time on a horse called Prince. Itās amazing how these gentle creatures respond to kindness and warmth. He was the perfect gentleman throughout my leisurely ride across the rolling countryside. We were even photographed together, it was truly a picture of a glamorous queen with her regal steed! (I'll be sure to share the photo on the Pink Tutu Instagram! Follow me if you haven't already!)
My journey in Bishops Stortford wouldnāt be complete without sharing a special story of how my love for pink tutus started, darlings! Now youāre probably thinking, āDidnāt Pink Tutu Sparkles always wear pink tutus?!ā Well, no, my story is a tad different.
It all began in Derbyshire, where I grew up. A wild, flamboyant Derbyshire girl with a passion for performing, it's hard to imagine that my journey began with... a lab coat and a science degree. Don't you just love those dramatic contrasts! You see, by day, Iām a lab technician, a tiny part of a world where accuracy and precision rule. My world, in the laboratory, revolves around colours and fabrics, a world far away from sequins and tulle. However, in the evenings, I transform into Pink Tutu Sparkles. I canāt imagine a better juxtaposition ā the calm, scientific mind finding solace in the whimsical joy of dance, colour, and a dazzling pink tutu.
The spark was ignited while studying at university. A little bit of cheeky rebellion, I always say! Iād joined the universityās ballet club and, on a dare for a charity fundraiser, agreed to wear a pink tutu ā and then, my life was changed! As soon as I put it on, something magical happened. That light tulle, the delicate layers, it felt as if it were created just for me. It wasnāt just a piece of clothing, it was an explosion of confidence, an embrace of my playful personality, a chance to express the sparkle I felt inside.
Itās not easy to juggle two lives. But being Alex and Pink Tutu Sparkles has shaped me, allowed me to learn the meaning of commitment, the importance of authenticity, and the thrill of seeing peopleās faces light up when they see me twirl on stage!
I may not be a professional dancer, but in my own way, I spread a little bit of ballet magic wherever I go. I am living proof that anyone can wear a pink tutu ā it doesnāt matter who you are or where youāre from, thereās a pink tutu out there waiting for you!
