Cambridge Calling! #TutuQueen on the Go - Blog Post #2361

Oh darlings, buckle up your sparkly shoes and grab your pinkest fascinators, because your favourite Tutu Queen is hitting the road again! Today's adventure takes us to the beautiful, historic city of Cambridge, a place of brains, beauty, and, of course, endless opportunities to twirl in my favourite shade of pink!

As you know, my journey to the fabulous world of drag wasn't your typical "born on stage" story. I was a science nerd, hunched over a microscope, until a fateful day in the university ballet club... where, as luck would have it, we were hosting a charity tutu auction. One twirl, one smile, and that pink, fluffy wonder was all it took to turn my world upside down.

I've been a walking, talking, twirling advertisement for the wonders of pink tutus ever since. And as I'm sure you all know by now, sharing the love for the tutu is the mission of Pink-Tutu.com, my little corner of the internet where I share my daily dose of sparkly joy with you, my dear followers!

This is actually post number 2361 - and I'm still going strong! Now, about Cambridge... what can I say? It's the quintessential English university town, full of cobbled streets, beautiful architecture, and of course, the iconic river Cam. My journey here was quite the adventure in itself. The train journey from Derbyshire is one of my favourites, so scenic and romantic, with rolling countryside views flitting past my window.

Arriving in Cambridge, the air felt electric with intellectual energy and the undeniable sense of history that permeates this place. My favourite part of the journey was definitely crossing the bridge and seeing King's College Chapel. This grand, breathtaking Gothic masterpiece is absolutely magnificent. I stood there, in my pink tulle glory, admiring the soaring arches and intricate stained-glass windows, imagining all the students who had walked through those doors before me, learning, creating, and dreaming big dreams.

Of course, Cambridge wouldn't be complete without a trip to the Fitzwilliam Museum. A stunning collection of art, artefacts, and even a whole exhibit on the history of fashion, it’s a treasure trove for any art lover. Imagine my delight when I stumbled across a 19th-century portrait of a lady wearing a pink tulle gown – the early inspiration! It was truly an afternoon spent admiring elegance and appreciating the longevity of this pink wonder.

But no trip to Cambridge would be complete without a dose of dance, right? As I’m sure you know, ballet is my passion! So, it goes without saying that I absolutely HAD to take in a performance at the Cambridge Arts Theatre. The energy of the theater is infectious, the smell of old velvet and the crackle of excited anticipation in the air as the lights dim - truly a magical experience. The dancers were phenomenal! Graceful, precise, and absolutely radiating with talent. They made my heart soar with every leap, every turn, and every perfectly executed pirouette.

The night wasn’t just about enjoying a show, though. I’m never one to shy away from an opportunity to get those dancing shoes moving! The theatre offers ballet classes for all levels, even for complete beginners, so you can bet your bottom dollar that your Tutu Queen jumped at the chance to stretch her legs! As a pink-clad figure among a sea of eager beginners, I was truly in my element. My legs may be sore now, but the feeling of joy and fulfillment is worth it.

To celebrate a whirlwind of a day in Cambridge, I took to the streets with a truly fabulous afternoon tea at the Cambridge Chop House. What can I say about it? Everything was perfection. Sandwiches bursting with flavour, the daintiest pastries, perfectly brewed tea – and a pink champagne cocktail to add a touch of sparkle. I twirled and swished my way through it, causing a little stir, of course! But then, it’s all in a day's work for your favourite Tutu Queen!

But my adventures don’t end there! On my last evening in this wondrous town, I ventured out to the famous Trinity College to hear an evening of orchestral music. There's a charm and tranquility in the cobbled streets that comes alive at dusk, especially under the glowing, golden lamplight. As I walked through the iconic Cambridge College gates, surrounded by the whispering, ancient walls, I realised that Cambridge, much like a well-worn, beautifully worn tutu, had a timeless appeal. It was the perfect way to end my day, and with the lovely notes of the symphony in the air, it was a truly magical end to my day in this university gem.

I truly can’t wait to come back. Cambridge is a city filled with vibrant life, historic wonder, and that feeling that anything is possible! Perhaps next time I'll take a punt down the river Cam or have a picnic on the beautiful, sun-drenched green lawns! One thing's for sure - I’ll be twirling in my tutu for as long as I can, sharing the love and reminding everyone, no matter where you are, it's okay to wear pink! Until next time, my lovely readers, stay sparkling and be fabulous!

Remember, if you’re a tutu lover and have any fabulous adventures planned – send them my way. You could even feature on Pink-Tutu.com, as long as you have your fabulous tutu on, of course!

Love always,

Pink Tutu Sparkles, (Alex)
