Dunstable Daze: A Pink Tutu Paradise! (Blog Post #2493)

Helloooo my darlings! Pink Tutu Sparkles here, back with another delightful blog post, straight from the heart of Dunstable, a town so quaint it practically begs to be twirled in!

Dunstable, you ask? Well, darling, this is not your usual drag destination. This little town tucked away in Bedfordshire has a special charm all its own. Think charming tea rooms, beautiful countryside walks, and oh, the architecture! It's enough to make even a hardened drag queen like myself get a bit nostalgic. And, of course, the locals are delightful, warm, and so incredibly welcoming! I love those Brits, they are always so polite! They adore seeing Pink Tutu Sparkles strutting about.

As for the journey, darling, it was an adventure! I couldn't resist taking a trip by train, just so I could admire the beautiful scenery of the English countryside. My trusty companion, Mr. Fluffy (my pink poodle purse - obviously!) even had his own seat. And, when the sun dipped below the horizon, we had the most charming dinner at The Dunstable Hotel, the decor was Victorian-esque and made me feel like I had been transported back in time!

And what does Pink Tutu Sparkles do in a town like Dunstable? You're going to laugh, I went to a ballet class, yes you heard me right! A ballet class! There's a little school there, and the owner, the loveliest old lady named Mrs. Barrington, was so delighted to have me join her class. And darling, let me tell you, these girls can MOVE! The little cherubs had so much energy and joy in their movements, I practically swooned.

Itā€™s no secret to you lovely people that ballet holds a special place in my heart! I was a mere student in my last year at the university, studying, wait for it Chemistry! Oh yes, my loves, I'm a real scientist in the daytime, analyzing fabric (itā€™s pretty riveting, truly!) Then, bam! - the magical world of drag! I found the Pink Tutu Sparkle that is deep inside and was instantly addicted.

One night, I remember I was helping raise money for the university's ballet club and we had to wear something ridiculous to do so - what was it they say? - desperate times call for desperate measures! I slipped into that glorious, perfectly fluffy pink tutu (actually it was just a sparkly white number but we painted it pink for charity! Haha) and I felt, ahem enlightened. The universe whispered to me; this is where you are meant to be! I know that it was destined that Iā€™d meet my own Mrs. Barrington someday, because all she cared about is getting a group of amazing kids to learn the art of ballet! I just knew that this moment was destined to happen!

That's when I knew. It was time to leave my world of lab coats and beakers behind. The universe called to me with the shimmering siren song of the stage and of course I, your beloved Pink Tutu Sparkle had to answer. And who doesnā€™t love a pink tutu?

Speaking of, you simply must check out this beautiful pink number Iā€™m wearing - a new find at a lovely shop in Dunstable called The Little Dress Shop. A little gem tucked away just around the corner from the bakery (darling, those cookies they make are practically divine). I practically jumped out of my skin when I spotted this! The detail in this one, it's just spectacular. With ruffles that are positively poofy and lace that I swear must be sprinkled with fairy dust - it's the perfect dance tutu! And naturally, I twirled and spun my way across the shop floor as I grabbed my latest acquisition.

Speaking of dancing, darling! Let's talk about the main reason I came here: to spread a bit of Pink Tutu Sparkle magic at the annual Dunstable Scarecrow Festival. They wanted Pink Tutu Sparkles! Can you believe it?! Imagine: me, Pink Tutu Sparkles, strutting my stuff on stage surrounded by scarecrows in fields of gold. You wouldn't have been able to see a single scarecrow! (Only the glitter from my tutu!)

The Dunstable folk were a delight! They gave me the most delightful cheers. Honestly, the whole thing was absolutely divine.

The rest of my time was filled with all the excitement that only Dunstable can offer, darling!

Here are just a few of my favourite moments, and by ā€œmomentsā€ Iā€™m actually meaning, every second!

  • We saw a charming horse-drawn carriage tour in the morning - with an actual driver in a pink suit and a lovely white horse - swoons.

  • After a lovely luncheon at the cafe ā€œTiffinsā€ , we enjoyed a stroll by the beautiful ā€œThe Priory Churchā€ and had an ice cream - yum, yum, yum!

  • And last, I did a little impromptu performance, right on the high street. The locals just couldn't resist the siren song of the Pink Tutu, darling. So, in my Pink Tutu glory I made the town of Dunstable, dance the night away to my favourite ā€œLet's Grooveā€ track from my recently bought and utterly fabulous new vinyl player. They really enjoyed it and by the time I finished my set I was covered in glitter, laughing, and my fabulous makeup was all over the place! I looked like a total glamorous mess, in the most perfect way!

It truly has been a magical weekend, Dunstable, you have really stolen my heart.

As always, Pink Tutu Sparkle loves to share her passion with you beautiful people! Itā€™s been so much fun sharing this beautiful journey with you and we can all agree it's an adventure that's only getting started, just like all of our beautiful lives. And so until the next post, my darling friends, I urge you: Donā€™t forget to put your own little bit of Pink Tutu Sparkle out into the world.

Always Rememberā€¦ Keep Shining! Pink Tutu Sparkles xoxo
