It's your Pink Tutu Sparkles here, fresh from a train journey that felt like a fairytale ride - but with fewer glass slippers and a whole lot more glittery eyeshadow! 😉 Today's post is extra special because it's blog post number 2498, and what better way to celebrate than by waltzing into Great Yarmouth, the gem of the East Anglian coast?
I can't even tell you how excited I am to be here. This trip was in the planning stages for weeks, and I've been dreaming of those quaint cobbled streets and salty sea air. 🌊 Not to mention the amazing food! I hear Great Yarmouth is the place to be for fresh seafood and creamy fish & chips - hold the vinegar, I'll have a dollop of pink frosting instead, please! 😉
Of course, my favourite part of any trip is dressing the part. Now, I know I always say this, but I think I've outdone myself with this week's outfit! My signature pink tutu (it's actually vintage, found in a charming little boutique in Nottinghamshire!) is going to be my canvas for an epic display of sequins and ruffles. Think seafoam green sequins reflecting the turquoise of the North Sea, and ruffles like delicate pink shells scattered on a beach. And the shoes? Oh darling, don't even get me started on the shoes! I'm talking sparkly, rainbow-hued Mary Janes with just a hint of a pink sparkle, a touch of je ne sais quoi that I think sums up Great Yarmouth's magic perfectly.
And speaking of magic, what could be more magical than a performance at the seaside? I'll be dazzling audiences at The Pier Theatre on Saturday, where I'm promised a spectacular setting - the salty ocean air mingling with the sound of laughter and applause. I can already imagine myself swirling around the stage, every sparkle reflecting the moonlight, every feather boa catching the sea breeze. I just hope my sequins don't get lost in the waves! 🤭
But it's not all glitz and glamour, folks. I always make time for exploring the local scene. On Wednesday, I'm taking a guided tour of Great Yarmouth's historical sites, from the ancient Time & Tide Museum to the impressive St. Nicholas' Church. And then on Friday, it's all about embracing the local life - I'm trying a fishing trip! Hopefully, the fish won't get too much of a shock seeing a pink tutu on deck. 🤣 I hear it's amazing fun, and I can't wait to share my experiences - and any hilarious fishing mishaps - in a later blog post!
One thing that excites me the most about visiting this historic seaside town is its strong connection to the ballet! It has such a beautiful tradition, and I hear that the local dance studio, "The Dance Academy," offers classes in all styles of dance. It goes without saying that I'm going to check out a ballet class - who knows, maybe I'll even learn a new pirouette for my act! (No promises, though, I'm definitely more of a performance queen than a graceful ballerina).
Now, this week is all about taking in the sights, the sounds, and the tastes of Great Yarmouth. I can already picture myself on the beach, the sun setting behind me in a dazzling pink and orange sky, the sound of the waves like a soothing lullaby. Maybe I'll even indulge in a slice of local "Pink Tutu" cake - just for you, darling! 😉

A Pink Tutu Life: From Science Lab to Stage!For those of you who don't know, I'm Alex by day, a scientist in a lab, and Pink Tutu Sparkles by night! 😉 Now, you might be thinking, "How does a scientist with a passion for fabrics become a flamboyant drag queen?" Well, it all started with a pink tutu.
It was a Tuesday, I remember it like it was yesterday! I was studying for my Science degree at the University of Nottingham, where I'd joined the university ballet club (not bad for a budding scientist, right?). It was a charity fundraising event, and someone suggested I try on a tutu. I hesitated - I mean, tutus weren't exactly known for being the go-to for a scientist, right?
But there was something about that soft, pink tulle that drew me in. I twirled in that tutu and felt a sense of pure joy - it was like the world suddenly transformed into a shimmering, colourful wonderland. That's when I realised I loved the feeling, the freedom, and the confidence a pink tutu brought me. It was the start of a love affair with all things sparkly and glamorous!
Of course, becoming Pink Tutu Sparkles wasn't a sudden revelation. There were hours of practicing, perfecting my signature makeup (yes, it took time to perfect those pink cat eyes!) and choreographing my dance routines. It wasn't easy at first, but with hard work and determination (and a healthy dose of glitter!), I was able to step onto my first stage at a small, cozy pub in Derbyshire - my home county.
Now, I get to combine my passions - science, which is all about exploring the unknown, and performance art, which allows me to create a dazzling world of my own. My job testing fabrics at the lab actually fuels my drag act, because it gives me a creative outlet! I get to explore different textures, patterns, and colours - all the elements that make up the Pink Tutu Sparkle aesthetic!
And let's be honest, darling, being a Pink Tutu Sparkle doesn't mean just putting on a tutu and flashing a smile (although I definitely do that!) It means pushing boundaries, celebrating self-expression, and sharing my love for life with the world. And I wouldn't have it any other way!
