Hello my darlings, it's your favourite Pink Tutu Sparkles here, fresh from a whirlwind trip to the charming seaside town of Colchester! Now, I know what you're thinking - Colchester? Really, Pink Tutu? That's not exactly the hottest destination for a flamboyant drag queen, is it?
But let me tell you, my dears, you underestimate Colchester! It's a little gem of a place, bursting with history, a vibrant community, and a surprising number of places to indulge in my favourite pink tutu pastimes. And what better way to explore a new town than by arriving in style? Yes, darlings, this time I took the scenic route - a gloriously old-fashioned train journey through the rolling countryside. There's nothing quite like the rhythmic chug of the train engine and the smell of freshly brewed tea in the morning sunshine to put one in a truly fabulous mood.
Colchester, My Dearest!
Colchester, as you all know, is famously known for being the oldest recorded Roman town in Britain, but its rich history extends beyond the Romans. It was also a crucial part of the Saxon invasion, a vibrant centre of Medieval trade, and even the first home of the famous Colchester Oyster, a delicacy still treasured to this day (and yes, I did indulge in a few at a bustling fish and chip shop - the best! 🦪 💖)
But, aside from history and fish, Colchester also has a surprisingly lively artistic heart. The town is home to a delightful little theatre - the Mercury Theatre - that boasts an impressive range of performances from theatre, music, dance, and even a fair dose of cabaret! It was a truly inspiring setting and I found myself wanting to join the throngs of artists there, letting my creativity flow! Speaking of flow, I just had to visit the beautiful Colchester Castle, which dates all the way back to 1066 - imagine the stories those walls could tell!
Ballet, Ballet, Everywhere!
And now for the big reveal... why, I couldn't have chosen a better place to spread my tutu gospel! Colchester holds an amazing Dance Festival each year, and I had the absolute honour of joining in a tutu-filled ballet class, taught by a fabulously energetic instructor at the Colchester Institute. It was such a fun way to explore ballet moves in a casual setting!
My favourite part, though, was witnessing the raw talent of the budding ballet dancers, their passion burning bright in their eyes, and their limbs moving gracefully in sync with each other. It reminded me of when I was just starting out on my own ballet journey, filled with hope, dreams, and an unquenchable desire to move, swirl, and spin my way into the spotlight!
Colchester Style - A Dress To Impress
Now, my loves, a trip wouldn't be complete without some proper fashion shopping, would it? I found the most delightful independent boutiques in the charming High Street and indulged in some much-needed retail therapy. Finding a bright pink cocktail dress for my next big performance was my priority, naturally!
I just couldn't resist a new pink fluffy boa to complete the look, which brought out the sparkles in my eyes, as much as in my new dress! (And a tiny, tiny but exquisitely made pink hat... don't judge me, it was adorable!)
To Tutu and Beyond!
My darling readers, as I write this from the warmth of my comfortable carriage heading back home, I feel nothing but gratitude for this lovely adventure in Colchester. It truly inspired me to push myself even further, embrace every opportunity with a vibrant pink tutu twirl, and remind everyone to bring a bit of pink into their lives!
