Oh my darlings, get ready to twirl! Pink Tutu Sparkles is back, and this time, weāre headed to the charming town of Taunton, Somerset! Yes, you heard right! This queen is embracing those rolling green hills and bracing sea air for a weekend of glitz and glamour! And I promise, it'll be an experience more fabulous than a box of chocolates (or should I say, a box of diamantĆ©s?).
This is, believe it or not, my very first visit to Taunton! And I'm positively giddy with excitement! You see, I'm all about those charming English market towns. Picture this: cobblestone streets, quaint shops filled with artisanal delights, and maybe a local pub with a good old-fashioned pie (and of course, a delightful gin and tonic!). I can already picture myself strolling down the High Street, catching a glimpse of history in every corner, while my tutu sashays effortlessly with me!
As I said, I'm a girl who loves to travel! The railway system has always been my go-to, though sometimes when I fancy a good gallop (or rather, a slow, leisurely saunter through the countryside) I'll take to horseback riding. Thereās just something so wonderfully freeing about feeling the wind in your hair and the gentle movement beneath you. Donāt even get me started on the charming country pubs where you can stop for a pint! But alas, the train's my chariot of choice for today's journey!
Speaking of my sartorial choices, darling, donāt even get me started on my fabulous pink tutu! It's a truly magical garment, a swirling, voluminous statement piece that radiates pure joy and whimsy! It's like a giant marshmallow dream, a pink cloud just waiting to sweep you off your feet (metaphorically, of course!). After all, what is a journey without a touch of magic?
This, of course, wouldn't be Pink Tutu Sparkles' first foray into the glamorous world of drag. Oh darling, I've been rocking these tutus and sparkles since I was but a mere science student in Derbyshire, where the nearest decent bakery seemed miles away! Back then, I was Alex, a shy, introverted scientist with a passion for all things pink and fluffy. (No, I'm not ashamed to admit it ā my favourite colour is undeniably pink!) I'd spend my days meticulously analysing fabrics in a sterile lab, dreaming of the day I could swap those boring white coats for a cascade of shimmering pink tulle! And when the charity fundraisers needed some lighthearted entertainment? Why, the uni ballet club had its very own tutu for the taking! Little did I know, it was going to change my life for the better, introducing me to a whole new world of laughter, love, and glitter bombs!
Since then, I've embraced the fabulous world of drag with open arms, traveling to various events and bringing a bit of joy to audiences everywhere. I'm living proof that you can be a scientist and a show-stopping diva at the same time. And yes, I love the feeling of walking into a room and feeling those eyes on me! I know what youāre thinking, āDarling, why so much pink?" Well, itās a colour that exudes happiness, sweetness, and pure, unadulterated joy. Whatās not to love? Itās the colour of bubble gum, cherry lollipops, and my ultimate fashion fantasy!
Now, back to our weekend escapade in Taunton! As a lover of all things performance art, I couldn't resist seeing a ballet show, "The Nutcracker". Iāve been twirling for ages now, so I know a bit about the ballet. But every once in a while, it's amazing to let someone else tell the story on stage. Even if the "Sugarplum Fairy" wouldnāt even know the way to my favourite cake shop in Nottingham!
But let me tell you, Taunton has some amazing places to get a proper sugar fix. From cute cafes with homemade cupcakes to fancy bakeries that would put a Parisian patisserie to shame, it's a veritable paradise for someone with a sweet tooth! Plus, you can bet your bottom dollar that I found the perfect teacup for my afternoon tea!
But enough about my personal explorations! Weāre all here for the juicy details about my performances, darling! Let me tell you, Taunton welcomed me with open arms. It was an electric atmosphere. Those locals absolutely loved a good dose of pink! It was my kind of crowd. So, with a touch of glamour and a whole lot of twirls, we painted the town pink, reminding everyone that a little bit of sparkle goes a long way!
Hereās a quick recap of my weekend in Taunton:
- Thursday: After my train ride and arrival, I went on a walking tour of the town. You'd be surprised what little history you can find tucked away in these seemingly quaint little villages! I found a beautiful little tea shop where I had a wonderful cream tea (theyāre all about those scones in Taunton!) Youāll have to check out their āThe Lady of Taunton" tea selection - Iām sure that it will tickle your fancy!
- Friday: It's all about shopping, shopping, and more shopping in Taunton. Did you know the town centre is filled with quaint, independent shops? I discovered so many lovely trinkets and homewares that I just had to bring back with me!
- Saturday: That's where it all comes together! Thatās where youāll find the real sparkle and glamour! We took a short journey by bus (I never seem to know how long the local routes are, but that is part of the adventure) to the historic county town of Bridgwater! (We all had to go to see if the mythical āThe Bridgwater Carnival" is for real, though it appears that is in October!) Oh my, but that performance was one to remember. So much laughter, so many cheers, so much joy, it truly melted my sparkly heart! I couldn't help but feel a twinge of pride. To be on stage, expressing myself, wearing my heart on my, well, pink tulle skirt, surrounded by these wonderfully accepting people - thereās no place Iād rather be!
Speaking of pride, it's not all about being the centre of attention! My true aim is to get everyone, literally EVERYONE, rocking their own pink tutu! Because, let's face it, lifeās a bit too short for dull outfits. Embrace your inner Pink Tutu Sparkles! Don't be afraid to wear something that makes you feel confident, bold, and yes, even a bit outrageous!
