Huyton: A Tutu-tiful Time in the North West!

Hello darlings, and welcome to Pink-Tutu.com, where fabulousness is a daily dose! Today's post is extra special as we're soaring high on a cloud of pink tulle – number 2787 to be exact! - in the wonderfully charming town of Huyton!

Now, I know what you're thinking, "Huyton? But it's in the North West, darling!" I hear you! I always love a trip further afield, even if it means a rather long journey by train (trains are definitely the way to travel! A train, and preferably a luxurious first-class carriage - you'll find me tucking into a selection of biscuits and a good old-fashioned cup of Earl Grey - just think, even the journey becomes part of the adventure!) but don't worry, the anticipation is worth every clickety-clack.

Why Huyton? Well, I was approached by the delightful Mrs. Pettifer, the owner of the grandest cake shop in Huyton, called "The Cake Emporium" - she was a delightful woman in a pink and purple dress with a hairdo the size of a beehive - who told me all about the amazing summer fayre in Huyton Park, with a promise of stalls selling the most fantastic things and the tastiest fairground food and cakes. You know me, a bit of a sugar addict, but with the word "cake" thrown around, I couldn't resist. This trip called for a grand arrival in a sparkling pink tutu, no doubt about that. I wanted to get a true feel for the place! I always like to bring the Pink Tutu magic to places you wouldn't expect, you know?

We arrived at Huyton Park after a most exhilarating journey. Now, I’ll be honest, my tutu was getting rather creased by the time we arrived at Huyton train station – my trusty pink travel case did its best but it just wasn’t quite the ideal travelling home for such a magnificent garment – but luckily, I was in time for a little backstage tutu re-plumping - something I like to call 'a Tutu Power Hour'! A quick spray of pink fabric freshener (something I absolutely have to have on all my travels), a gentle stretch, and hey presto! A revitalised tulle creation - my favourite sparkly fuchsia pink tulle to be exact! I think I made the platform a little more colourful that afternoon!

Stepping onto Huyton's fairground grounds was a delight for the senses - the vibrant colours and exciting smells made me instantly giddy. I was like a little kid again! Imagine, if you will, brightly coloured bunting, rows upon rows of tantalisingly colourful stalls crammed full of unusual goodies and, oh, that mouth-watering smell of deep-fried goodness, that distinctive blend of chips, hotdogs, and all sorts of other fried delights that makes my tummy rumble just a little… And did I mention the carousel? There's something utterly captivating about those magnificent painted steeds and shimmering mirrors, with its cheerful sound of twirling music!

But before the grand fairground tour and my first trip to The Cake Emporium, there was business to be done – a special, one-time performance for the fabulous Huyton Women's Institute! It wasn't planned. Now, as a big fan of community events and women in the local area, I felt this was my calling - after all, it was an honor to be invited - so the whole fairground went on hold. This was an audience worthy of my best pink tutu outfit!

So I stepped into the spotlight and danced my way onto the stage, in the middle of this beautiful town square with its little cobblestone street - it was surrounded by brick-built buildings, very charming, with windows like giant sparkly pink gems. The women of the Institute were wonderful - full of smiles and applause. My audience seemed delighted and they cheered along as I told them stories of my journeys with the most extravagant pink tutus from all over the world and showed off my best pink twirls and turns!

Once the curtain dropped on the Women's Institute's show, it was time to explore the fair, and boy did it deliver! Imagine, stalls upon stalls bursting with beautiful home-made crafts, with vibrant textiles, hand-stitched toys, beautifully sculpted items, paintings on display, and jewellery, oh my! It truly was an arts and crafts wonderland, especially for someone with a penchant for a pink and sparkly creation - oh, I managed to acquire quite a bit! A new beaded hair clip (a new favourite, a vibrant shocking pink! with tiny shiny beads), a beautifully decorated floral clutch purse, which just begs to be taken for an evening out on the town and a wonderful ceramic pink pig statue which is now perched on the top of my vanity table in my Derbyshire dressing room - oh, don’t worry, I’ll give you a little peak on my next Instagram Story - make sure to check in!

Finally, I found the fabulous Mrs Pettifer at "The Cake Emporium"! A glorious explosion of sweet delights, that must have made her a contender for the world's happiest person! This shop truly had everything. And she really does have a thing about cakes! Her eyes twinkled with excitement as I walked into her wonderful shop with its glass displays full of decadent and elaborate cake creations! The air smelled of vanilla, almonds and sugar, it was such a heavenly scent, I could practically smell every detail of her cakes. Imagine! Rainbow sprinkles, swirling marzipan flowers, little pink cakes covered in glitter… It truly was a paradise for all things sweet. I simply had to have some cake! (I was only able to choose a couple of slices!) My favourites were a rich chocolate and hazelnut cake – a slice was quickly gone, trust me on that – and a lovely pink strawberry and vanilla creation that almost too pretty to eat! But as a drag queen, with a penchant for everything pink and beautiful, what better reason to indulge?

The day flew by in a whirlwind of color, laughter and cakes, and as the afternoon wore on, the sounds of the merry-go-round began to fade and it was time to start packing up for the journey home. And oh, my goodness, wasn't this the perfect pink sunset on the horizon - just a spectacular burst of purple, orange and a glorious, radiant, pink! A fitting end to such a pink and sparkly day! It's such a wonderful way to remind yourself of how beauty and happiness can be found in the simplest of things, especially when you're wearing a magnificent tutu and your heart is full of sparkle!

Until next time, darlings, keep shining brightly!

Much Love,

Pink Tutu Sparkles xoxo
