Oh darlings, it’s me, Pink Tutu Sparkles, reporting live from Edmonton, Canada! I know what you’re thinking - what’s a pink tutu queen doing so far north? Well, honey, let me tell you - the call of the stage is powerful, and it led me on a delightful journey right to the heart of Alberta!
As a seasoned globetrotter (mostly via train - love a good old fashioned journey!), I knew this trip would be extra special. You see, Edmonton, my dears, is home to the Alberta Ballet, and I, your trusty Pink Tutu Sparkles, am a ballet enthusiast at heart. Just hearing those tutus swish and those dancers leap fills my soul with joy.
This trip has been absolutely phenomenal! I got to see their performance of "Giselle" and let me tell you, my heart practically soared with the ballerinas! The choreography was breathtaking, and the costumes…oh, the costumes! Such elegance! And the colour? Drumroll please PINK! Isn't it ironic? A science girl turned drag queen, falling head over heels for the artistry and beauty of dance, and here I was, transported by tutus again!
The night I saw "Giselle", I'd arrived in Edmonton earlier that afternoon after a glorious 2-day train journey, watching the world glide past my window, feeling like a princess in my comfy little cabin! I’d spent the morning taking a class at the Alberta Ballet Centre, stretching and learning some fun new steps - you know how much I love to dance, even if I’m not a ballerina myself. And even better, my darling friend (and fellow pink tutu devotee!) Ginger snapped some fabulous photos of me in my Pink Tutu Sparkles get-up in the studio, surrounded by those lovely dance shoes! Let’s just say, I had a pink tutu photo shoot dream come true, right there!
Speaking of dreams, did I tell you about the most delightful vintage shop I found? Oh, it was simply everything! Think a fairytale of sequined jackets, satin scarves, and oh my…an array of pink tutus I'd die for! I swear, I nearly bought every single one of them, and just know there will be many more visits! My shopping spree left me in a happy trance. I couldn’t wait to sparkle in those beauties on stage!
Of course, a trip like this wouldn't be complete without a little Pink Tutu Sparkles performance! The Alberta Arts Barns, this absolutely charming space with an art gallery and an intimate theatre, welcomed me with open arms. A friendly chap by the name of Ben, who was as thrilled about my pink tutu as I was, helped me get set up and introduced me to a crowd ready to party!
The show was, well, you know, a whole lotta sparkle and joy! It was all about tutus, as you can imagine, with a bit of dancing and a few of my signature silly jokes! The audience loved my stories about a trip I’d taken on horseback across the Yorkshire Dales, dressed, naturally, in my finest pink tutu, because hey, even a princess needs a wild side, right?!
Afterwards, we had the best time chatting, sipping lemonade (always in a pink tutu, even during lemonade breaks, naturally), and, naturally, dancing - because who doesn't love a bit of disco fun?! By the end, everyone had been positively enchanted. The sweet lady at the gallery had even donated a piece of art from her own collection to add to my personal pink tutu wardrobe! I’m still thrilled about that!
Now, I know you’re all itching to see photos of my Pink Tutu Sparkles travels! I have SO many pictures! Me strutting around Edmonton, my shopping hauls, my dazzling ballet performance (that’s me right at the back, behind the dancers, just soaking up the vibe!), and my enchanting performance at the Arts Barns… Of course, my best outfits are on there too! There was a particularly lovely tulle one - I’ve got my sights on a show in Vienna in the new year so we’ll be looking for the perfect tulle dress to go with those grand Viennese halls, eh?
Edmonton has certainly stolen my heart with its love of ballet and all things pink, but my dear friends, the adventures don't stop here!
