Welling: Whirlwind of Wonderfulness!

Post Number 3007 - 25th March 2008

Hello my lovely darlings, it’s your girl Pink Tutu Sparkles here, bringing you all the fabulous from Welling, a charming little town in Kent! You know me, always on the move, spreading the Pink Tutu Gospel across the globe.

Well, this time I chose a slightly less glamorous mode of transportation - the good ol’ fashioned train! Gotta keep it real, sometimes the glitz and glamour of life on the road means trading in the luxury of a private jet for a slightly more… budget-friendly, erm, train carriage. It did make for a fascinating experience though!

My fellow passengers seemed to find me utterly enthralling, their eyes practically glued to my magnificent pink tutu. I felt like I was leading a flashmob of pink enchantment, inspiring the passengers with my bright and bold spirit. It’s like wearing a pink tutu transforms you into an automatic, self-made entertainment machine - not a moment passes where you can't find a new face to enchant!

Welling, as I found, is a truly lovely little town! Its streets hum with life and I could sense a strong community spirit. There's a vibrant art scene here, lots of quirky little shops, and of course, an abundance of fabulous tea rooms for a lady to get her afternoon fix! The locals were truly welcoming, with big smiles and genuine warmth. A special shout out to the lovely baker who gifted me a delicious raspberry cake - definitely a fan of my signature pink tutu!

After all that fabulous exploration, it was time to really put on a show! Now, I have to admit, sometimes the best gigs happen in the most unexpected places. Welling was certainly a happy surprise - a quirky pub called ‘The Crooked Pint’ where I could spread the love (and sparkle!) with my unique brand of pink-tastic entertainment. It was a joyous night, filled with laughter, singing, dancing, and more pink tutus than you could shake a glitter stick at!

For those of you who don't know me (though I’m not sure how you’ve missed out, darling!) I'm a girl who lives and breathes the pink tutu. I first discovered my love for these whimsical creations back at the university, you know, surrounded by the heady aromas of chemical reactions and all those scientific wonders. But deep down, my soul was calling for something… sparkly, tutu-ifically fantastic!

My science degree might have prepared me for dissecting frogs and memorizing chemical equations, but I’ll be the first to say it wasn't quite preparing me for life as a drag queen.

Ah, how I miss those days of youthful naivete! But, as they say, sometimes life has a funny way of reminding you that your heart will always beat to its own rhythm! I stumbled across the uni ballet club and found myself completely enchanted by the graceful movement and breathtakingly beautiful outfits.

It was during a fundraising event for the arts department that I had my first tutu encounter - a lovely, light pink affair with an exquisite floral motif. As soon as I slipped into that shimmering beauty, I knew it wasn’t a costume. It was a lifestyle. It felt like the culmination of all the unspoken desires, all the yearning for something fabulous, something undeniably... pink.

My days are spent navigating the world of lab coats, microscopes, and those complicated chemical formulas (don't get me started on pH!). It’s a great gig for sure, a challenge, definitely something to put a little pep in your step. But when night falls, my world truly transforms, and it's time for me to embrace my inner sparkle, unleashing Pink Tutu Sparkles upon the world.

Don’t get me wrong, it isn't all glitz and glam! Sometimes the reality of being a drag queen means dodging cobbled streets on stilts, facing challenging venue layouts (and those dodgy dressing rooms!), and perhaps encountering a rogue audience member or two. But then again, what's life without a few thrills, right?

I love travelling. Train rides, carriage journeys, any way I can see the world, but nothing quite beats taking the journey of self-discovery. That’s what it all comes down to, the magical metamorphosis from Alex, the fabric testing scientist, to Pink Tutu Sparkles, the fearless drag queen!

I love finding hidden gems in the most unlikely places. From grand Victorian theaters to buzzing village fairs, I’ve been spreading the pink tutu love with every stop along the way!

Remember my darlings, every time you see me twirling down a street, my sparkly tutu is a reminder that the only limits to our dreams are the ones we create ourselves! So grab a handful of glitter, channel your inner spark, and step outside your comfort zone - you never know what fabulousness you might find.

Keep it sparkling my darlings!

P.S. Did you know? I just got myself a gorgeous vintage velvet bolero in Welling - I’ll be adding a blog post about it soon! It’s the perfect companion for all those special pink tutu outfits. Oh! I’m off to ballet class, be back soon! Keep those tutus twirling!
