Blackburn, Oh Blackburn, How I Love You! 🩰💖

Hello darlings! It's your Pink Tutu Sparkles here, back with another blog post from the road, this one extra special because it's number 3141, and who knows when I'll be reaching number 3142! As you all know, this life is a whirl of sparkles and glitter, and it's definitely not all about the pink tutus – though those are certainly my favourite part.

Today, I'm coming to you from Blackburn, Lancashire! Yes, that's right, this Pink Tutu Sparkles is heading North! A quick jaunt on the train (though frankly, I wish they had horses that pulled carriages for me to travel on - it'd be oh so much more glamorous!), and I was greeted by a wonderful city brimming with energy and... rain! (We'll come back to the rain, darling, don't you worry.)

I must confess, dear readers, this trip started in quite a panic! You see, I'd forgotten my feather boa at home, and as we all know, a proper Pink Tutu Sparkles performance needs a bit of feathered flair. The good news is that my good friends, the shop assistants at Tutus-R-Us in Burnley (the best tutu shop outside of London, frankly, a haven for any queen, drag or otherwise!), had an incredible selection to choose from. After an hour of perusing their collection, I was left breathlessly choosing from an endless array of feathers! I finally settled on a coral-hued masterpiece – it just screamed, "Blackburn, here I come!"

Now, the rain did try to dampen my mood, but darling, you know I don't let the elements dictate my mood! A quick dash from the train station, through a shimmering veil of droplets, and I found myself on a journey to discover the best parts of Blackburn. My mission, as always: to bring some Pink Tutu Sparkles magic to a town that needed a touch of glitz!

Let me tell you, darlings, Blackburn truly embraces the spirit of glamour. It was at a fantastic cafe called "The Rainbow Cuppa," a place overflowing with colours as bright as my tutu! My breakfast was the most exquisite toasted teacakes, and the tea was served in a dainty china cup, topped with a swirling heart design. And all the while, a friendly chatter between the cafe's customers and the owner, all punctuated with laughter. Honestly, the only missing element was my favourite ballet playlist!

With my spirits renewed and my stomach happy, I set out to explore the city further. Blackburn Market was a treasure trove, full of vibrant colours, delicious smells, and chatter in various dialects. I picked up the most exquisite vintage brooch for my stage costume and even convinced a stall owner to pose with me for a photo while holding up a pink tutu – spreading the word one tutu at a time!

But it wasn't all sunshine and sparkles, darling. You see, the streets were a bit... grimy. It's like they'd forgotten how to embrace a bit of colour. Oh, how I wanted to whisk out my magical paintbrush and turn it all into a kaleidoscope of beauty!

That's when the magic truly happened! At the Blackburn Museum, right next to a rather grand looking statue of some famous gentleman (who knew Lancashire had its own heartthrob!), I stumbled upon the most inspiring piece of street art. This wasn't just any graffiti, my dears, this was an explosion of colour! Swirls of orange, purple, pink – oh, how I just wanted to hop in there and start twirling! It was an explosion of creativity and colour that resonated with my very core. This is what Blackburn was about – celebrating creativity, daring to be bold, and letting their hearts burst with vibrant hues.

Later that evening, I graced the stage at the Blackburn Arts Centre. The performance, my dears, was nothing short of sensational! I danced and twirled, pranced and posed, and the audience responded with cheers and applause that made my heart flutter with joy. The centre, a majestic building with gothic touches, seemed to hum with my energy. The whole place had a lovely intimate feel – I'd certainly feel right at home performing there more often!

It was an absolutely brilliant night, and all my anxieties from the morning simply faded away. My heart swelled with happiness, realizing that Blackburn wasn't just about the grimy bits. There was something else, something deeper, an unwavering love for beauty and joy that I felt all night. It made me wonder, what magic was hiding underneath the dusty charm of the other streets? It filled me with such a burning desire to bring more colours, more sparkle, and most importantly, more pink tutus to the people of Blackburn.

But the highlight of my day was truly meeting the town's fabulous people. As I wandered through the market, enjoying a cuppa and chatting with the locals, I learned about the town’s fascinating history and saw the incredible passion these people have for their community. And darling, every single one of them had a story to tell, a twinkle in their eyes, and a touch of grace in their smiles that resonated with my own flamboyant nature. It’s something I’ll hold close to my heart for a very long time.

Now, I'm just leaving this lovely town. I can’t wait to come back and share my vibrant passion with its inhabitants. And as I'm walking back to the train station, the rain has finally stopped. The sun is peeping through the clouds and bathing everything in a warm, golden glow. It’s as if Blackburn herself wants to bid farewell in a manner as delightful as the rest of the town. And I must admit, darling, Blackburn’s a real winner. I just want to say a big “thank you” to every one of those friendly faces for the hospitality, kindness and humour you showered me with.

It's time for me to pack up my pink tutu and feather boa and hit the road to spread some sparkle and magic to another city. Until then, remember, darlings: every day is an opportunity to twirl, to be fabulous, and to let your inner Pink Tutu Sparkles shine! Don't forget, we all have a pink tutu in us! Just waiting to be unveiled!

Love, always, 💖Pink Tutu Sparkles 💖
