Hello my darlings, and welcome back to www.pink-tutu.com! It's your fabulous friend, Pink Tutu Sparkles, here, back with another post from the road! This is blog number 3175 - can you believe it? I've been sharing my sparkly journey for over eight years now, and it's only getting more pink and fabulous with each passing day.
This week, I've been twirling my way through the stunning streets of Paisley! I know, I know, you might not be expecting a drag queen in a pink tutu popping up in this delightful town. But just imagine - the cobbled streets, the stunning architecture, the lush greenery…it's just the perfect setting for a whimsical adventure, don't you think?
My trip began, as so many do, with a train journey. Now, I absolutely adore train travel. It's so civilized, so relaxing, and gives me plenty of time to admire my outfit (this week, it was a glorious hot pink tutu with a shimmery lilac bodice, and a feathery pink feather boa! Did I tell you I have a thing for feathers?)
The journey was absolutely delightful, filled with cheerful chat and delicious snacks. (Did I mention I’m also a bit of a foodie?) And you know what the best thing is? The looks of wonder and amusement when people see me in my full fabulous regalia - and the inevitable smile that creeps onto their faces. It's like a dose of sunshine for everyone!
When I arrived in Paisley, it was time to get ready for the show! The venue was a small but beautiful theatre, and the crowd was simply divine. It was a mix of locals, tourists, and even some folks from a nearby village - all ready to get swept away by the magic of Pink Tutu Sparkles.
My set was a classic mix of old favorites and new tunes. There were plenty of graceful ballet poses and a whole lot of twirling, all performed with a heaping dose of camp and fabulousness, of course!
After the show, I was inundated with requests for selfies - the fans were so sweet! But before I knew it, I was whisked away to a local restaurant where a bunch of lovely new friends treated me to dinner. We talked about everything and anything - life, love, the universe, and, of course, tutus!
I love meeting new people on my travels, learning about their lives and dreams, and sharing a bit of my sparkly magic with them. It's like a beautiful symphony of personalities and experiences, and it just makes my heart soar!

A Day in the Life: Behind the Scenes with Pink Tutu Sparkles
As you know, Pink Tutu Sparkles loves her travel. But where does a girl find the time and resources to keep travelling? Well, here’s the secret – Pink Tutu Sparkles, like a magical unicorn with a rainbow in its mane, has a hidden life!
By day, I’m Alex, a down-to-earth scientist in a busy laboratory. Yes, you read that right. Science and drag - they go hand in hand! (Don't you agree, darling? All that experimentation and color - you could say I have a penchant for both!) It’s actually a great combination: it gives me time for deep concentration and research, and then, bam! I can unleash my fabulous alter ego.
Of course, my science job is what lets me keep up with the travel expenses! My current lab focuses on fabric technology – yes, you could say I'm in the business of dreams. Every day, I get to play with textiles and create innovative fabrics - think silk, satin, lace, sequins! It's all about discovering new textures and techniques for making amazing fabrics, and that makes me think of my love for everything frilly and shimmery! And guess what? That love for sparkly things comes in handy for all those gorgeous tutus!
After work, it's time for Pink Tutu Sparkles to take center stage! There's a lot of prep involved - putting on the make-up, creating elaborate hairdos, carefully curating the most magnificent pink tutus (the process can take ages! But worth it!).
And the beauty is that my love for ballet is always interwoven with the shows! My training for Pink Tutu Sparkles started with a love of ballet! You see, my real life journey into the pink wonderland started when I was studying for my science degree, and was in the university ballet club. It was a dare, really, someone had suggested trying on a tutu for a fundraising event. One look, one pirouette and my destiny was set! The magic began, and it didn’t take long before I had my very first drag performance. It was in a local pub, in my hometown of Derbyshire, to be precise! I have to admit, I was nervous, but it was also exhilarating – I just felt I was meant for the spotlight!
The magic of performance, the sense of transforming into Pink Tutu Sparkles - there’s nothing like it, darlings. Of course, it’s hard work – but that’s ok! Hard work can bring a whole new level of creativity. That's how I developed my 'ballet street' performances – it’s basically a way to incorporate those stunning ballet moves into my shows and to weave them through street style. You see, I love finding places with fantastic architecture to perform, and my favourite place is the Theatre Royal, a stunning historic landmark - it’s right at the heart of Derby, so I’m proud to be a part of the city’s cultural life!
