Ilkeston Adventures! Pink Tutu Sparkles Takes to the Stage!

Hello my lovelies, itā€™s Pink Tutu Sparkles here and Iā€™m buzzing with excitement because itā€™s time for another adventure, my darlings! You can read this fab post, numero 3273 on www.pink-tutu.com, right here, right now, darling!

So, it was off to Ilkeston, in my trusty car (well, not trusty, really, itā€™s a bit of a rust bucket - I blame the Derbyshires roads and the endless rainā€¦ ), with a full wardrobe of my dazzling pink tutu creations. Oh darling, thereā€™s so much pink here, even the cows are blushing!

Ilkeston was a bit of a journey, you know, but the thrill of adventure makes it worthwhile. Itā€™s good to have a proper day trip, to escape the laboratory, you know, for some fabulous fabulousness. Let's face it, a scientist has got to keep her head up and dream, and, whatā€™s better than getting to dress up, and perform on a stage in a pink tutu? Thatā€™s why Iā€™m all over these fairs and festivals - so I can be my fabulous self.

This particular adventure began in Derby - donā€™t you love how much British English has its own unique sense of humour? No, itā€™s not that sort of ā€œDerbyā€! This time, I headed to Derby railway station, all my bags (packed with, well, more pink, naturally) looking quite splendid andā€¦ slightly ridiculous. Donā€™t get me wrong, the station was, well, very standard - with a fair few pigeons - but it does bring up some nostalgic feels, don't you think? It's a shame about those pigeons - they just get so many crumbs everywhere... It's enough to make you want to chuck your handbag and run for the nearest fish shop. (Oh darling, do not worry, that didn't actually happen.) But, a gal has gotta keep a smile on her face in the face of adversity, right?

Now, if youā€™ve been to Derby station before, youā€™ll know itā€™s got a kind of grand Victorian vibe - so much history in that station. But I wasnā€™t about to get lost in its grandeur for too long, darling - not when I had to catch a train. The smell of those steam trains on those platform tracks, my darlings, itā€™s so lovely! Nothing beats that train smell - youā€™re just so aware youā€™re transporting yourself. The airā€™s thick with it, all that coal and iron - pure old-fashioned, brilliant British energy! You feel you're in for something fantastic.

Anyway, I took a seat, it was like an enormous, plush armchair, but way bigger. And then - puff, puff, choo choo off we go, heading into the Derbyshires landscape, those charmingly undulating fields... They kind of remind me of the tutu's billowing fabric. It really takes your breath away. The coloursā€¦ like something from a storybook! They've got those gentle hills, too. It's quite pretty, you know, especially if you can see the sun - so very picturesque. And so peaceful, compared to all those lights and noises of a lab in Londonā€¦

I arrived at Ilkeston a couple of hours later - itā€™s actually quite a quaint little town. My heart warmed up instantly when I saw a little tea shop - ā€œCrockery Corner,ā€ it was called - which is so terribly cute, you just have to imagine yourself sat in a big, comfy armchair, sipping a delicious cuppa! So much British charm! Of course, I went in - got to stock up on those tea cakes. You canā€™t travel in the UK and not be partial to some tea! You have to have some sort of comfort food while travelling around and getting all dolled up, right? And thereā€™s something comforting about a warm slice of fruit cake. I could not leave that shop without a proper mug for my tea - bright pink, naturally, to add to my collection of pink teacups. (Why yes, I do collect mugs and cups - and a few bowls and plates and jugs, in my ā€œpink tableware collectionā€. But, who am I kidding, It's like a bit of an obsession, my darlings. )

After my break and the deliciousest cake, I hit the ground running (literally, because the pink sparkly platform shoes I wore were not the most practical on cobblestones - especially if you're a little bit clumsy).

My first stop was, of course, the Town Hall. I do love a good Victorian era structure! It just screams a story - there must have been some ball, some grand celebration. A Pink Tutu Sparkles fan even took a few snaps for me, standing out front. What else could you do with the stunning background - the beautiful pink-painted pillars (I was so happy about that, oh darlings!) The whole area has so much history. Even the trees - they look like they were planted centuries ago. The fact is, thereā€™s a sense of real life in all that architecture.
I had my pink feather boa on full display and just let that pink tutu take its lead. It did really get a bit of a ā€˜wowā€™ from passersby. They seemed totally taken with it - the locals all gave me bright smiles. It made the whole trip, especially after being cooped up in a lab all week, really worthwhile. And I must tell you, you really feel all the energy of the town - all the joy! The people, too! Theyā€™ve got real style. There was a couple on their first date. Look, love is in the air, they practically shouted, and I am here for it!! There is just so much to be said about those happy hearts. How incredibly cute - oh the cuteness!

Now, off to the fair! There were crowds galore - oh, and such a mix of characters. There was a gentleman whoā€™d just had a whole new wig - It was like it said ā€œlook at me!ā€ I just couldnā€™t help but notice those little things and little touches of character that we've got in England. A big, smiley lady in a big fluffy coat, complete with matching woolly hat, was giving everyone balloons (They even had bright pink ones. Oh my darlings - you couldnā€™t script this. Such perfect timing! My pink heart could burst!). Oh the children's smiles, they looked so overjoyed. You see so much joy in that town - just that vibe that says, ā€œweā€™ve got this!ā€ The whole scene - it really does bring a lump to your throat. I think the atmosphere is just brilliant - all so heart-warming and so lovely. The smell of hotdogs was everywhere - it was a true festival kind of aroma. I do love a good hot dog - especially the way they do them here in England - they always have the best sausages, my darlings! Oh those juicy, savory sausages - thatā€™s another taste of English joy right there.

On to the performance. I was, oh, itā€™s true - totally, completely and absolutely, nervous as hell! My nerves, they were so on edge! So, as I made my way to the stage - in a magnificent cloud of sparkle and tulle, that tutu billowing in all its glory - I heard this little voice shouting. ā€œPink Tutu Sparkles! Pink Tutu Sparkles!ā€ Oh, those little cherubs were calling my name, waving. What a gorgeous crowd - I had a proper ā€˜pinch meā€™ moment, thinking, is this really happening? I even heard someone cry ā€œGo on then, you diva! We love your work!ā€. Well, I had no idea that so many of my faithful fans knew of me! The sheer fact of them recognising me! What a joyous thrill. That made the butterflies in my stomach just dissolve! They were going to give me the biggest cheering, you just knew - it just felt right.

Iā€™ll never forget the feeling of stepping out onto that stage, hearing all that buzz, those cheering voices... The spotlight hitting me - so glorious! The crowd were wild, they just loved my pink sparkle - oh darling, what a vibe!

You know, after my show, people came up and said, ā€œThis was brilliant! You just have such a presenceā€. There was another fan who was wearing a pink tutu. Oh darlings, I couldn't believe it! She told me that she bought it at the last event where I performed, saying that I inspired her to try one on and, you know, get out there!

Well, my darling, I'm making a real difference.

See, my little dream - this crazy obsession with wearing tutus, with that colour, with pink - is really making a difference. If people think Iā€™m brave for just wearing this tutu and performing in front of them, that I can make them laugh - oh darlings - then maybe just maybe Iā€™ll make more people want to take on that pink tulle challenge, and be happy wearing it, too!

And thereā€™s no better way to spend the day - making people smile. They say laughter is the best medicine, and wearing a pink tutu is just infectious, like a giant ball of pure joy. The more people who are ā€˜tutu fabulousā€™ - well thatā€™s my aim! Itā€™s time to spread that pink magic around! Weā€™ll get everyone to love pink.
