This Pink Tutu has packed her glittery suitcase and hopped on a train (all the way from a charming little station called Matlock Bath, by the way) for a fabulous trip to the bustling town of Barking, East London! Why Barking, you ask? Well, my dears, let's just say there's nothing like a good old-fashioned train journey to get the creative juices flowing, especially when you're decked out in a vibrant shade of hot pink. And honestly, this Pink Tutu can't resist a good bit of east London grit and charm.
Now, you might be thinking, “Alex, you're a scientist by day and a drag artist by night. What on earth takes you to Barking?” Well, I'll tell you. The universe works in mysterious ways, my darlings, and it seems this queen's next drag engagement has landed me right in the heart of this fantastic borough. (And yes, for those of you playing at home, "engagement" means performing my sparkly little heart out. Wink, wink!)
Ballet in Barking: An Unexpected Treat
So, what did this little Pink Tutu get up to in Barking? Why, a little trip to the Barking and Dagenham College, of course! (Think of me, darlings, in my gorgeous pink tutu, blending in perfectly with the educational backdrop!) It seems, even the most unlikely of places can have a hidden ballet gem. And wouldn't you know it, the college had its very own dance club. Talk about finding hidden treasure!
Now, I may have arrived as a glittering pink flamingo in the bustling halls of academia, but I got a chance to get my ballet shoes back on, so it felt right at home! And the talent, darlings, the sheer talent! You would think I'd stepped right into the middle of a West End production! From elegant arabesques to dynamic leaps, the ballet students showed me what true passion and grace meant, and let me tell you, this queen's heart was skipping a beat.
A Pink Tutu Sparkles in a Town of Hidden Gems
And if there's anything this Pink Tutu loves more than a graceful ballet turn, it's uncovering a town's hidden treasures. And Barking did not disappoint! After all that ballet brilliance, I popped over to the wonderful Barking Library, a lovely haven for all things literary. This place felt like a world away from the bustling college and was such a peaceful escape from the noise and the traffic. (It also had the most delightful vintage books, if I do say so myself.)
The thing I love about a small town is that every corner feels like an opportunity for something amazing. And as we speak, a delicious fish and chip shop called "Fish and Fritz" is calling my name. I just can't resist a little bit of fish and chips in my tutu. I guess this queen isn't too posh for good old fashioned grub. And did I mention there were more cute vintage shops to peruse, where I found the most divine vintage earrings? I think I might be wearing them for tonight's show!
Barking: Where Dreams Bloom Bright and the Tutues Sparkle
But wait, darlings, the highlight of the evening is still to come. Tonight, Pink Tutu Sparkles graces the stage in Barking. I'll be belting out a few show tunes (the stage is even bigger than I imagined!), throwing a little bit of glamour into the air, and sharing some laughs with the locals.
After all, this Pink Tutu believes that a little bit of glitter can go a long way, and that laughter and a little bit of magic are a must in life. And who knows, maybe even a few people in the audience will go home wanting to put on a pink tutu themselves.
