Oh darlings, what a journey! Itās been a whirlwind of trains, giggles, and enough pink tulle to cover the whole of Cumbernauld! I just knew this town needed a sprinkle of Pink Tutu Sparkles, and as you all know, my dear blog-readers, wherever the pink tutu goes, fun follows!
Let's rewind the clock, shall we? After an epic performance at the Derbyshire County Fair (don't worry, a full post with pictures is coming soon, darlings!), I was feeling a bit "out of sparkle" and craved a change of scenery. So, I packed my most fabulous pink suitcase (every good drag queen knows to carry multiple sparkly pink options!) and jumped on a train to this fabulously Scottish town. Did I mention I adore train journeys? Thereās just something about those rattling carriages and wide landscapes that gets me in the mood to dream big. And in my world, "dreaming big" translates to dreaming of an entire country rocking pink tutus!
Now, Cumbernauld! What a lovely town, it truly embraces the bold and the bright, and thatās something I truly appreciate. It's like Cumbernauld has been waiting for my arrival with a big open "Welcome, Pink Tutu Sparkles, have a fab time" banner (though they havenāt actually put one up, but I feel the welcoming vibes).
I was blessed to meet some wonderful locals who are absolutely obsessed with all things pink. Imagine, darlings! They practically made a beeline for my dressing room after my show last night, asking if they could try on the tutu. One lady, a fabulous granny named Moira, told me she had wanted to wear a pink tutu ever since she saw āBilly Elliotā, bless her! The sparkle in her eyes, it nearly blinded me, love, just the purest joy of seeing the power of a good, fabulous tutu. Itās moments like these that make my drag queen journey all the more magical.
And then thereās the ballet studio I stumbled upon! "Studio Dāamourā - such a perfect name! You'll have to forgive me, dear readers, for indulging in my ballerina fantasy for a few hours, twirling around in my new "Cumbernauld Calling" pink tulle (another piece for my collection, and the blush shade is utterly divine!) Turns out the studio is hosting an amazing fundraising ballet show next month! Imagine me gracing the stage with those graceful dancers ā pink tutu sparkles in tow, of course! Speaking of fundraising, this Cumbernauld adventure is giving me an idea ā perhaps itās time to start a new fundraising initiative, āPink Tutu Projectsā? Imagine ā using my platform and passion to fund exciting creative projects all over the UK, like dance studios and theatre groups, you know, sprinkle some magic wherever we can! My brain is swirling with pink ideas! I need to talk to my team back in Derbyshire! I wonder if there are any dance classes or ballet classes near my lab? Maybe my colleagueās daughter loves ballet too? Iāve never seen her in a tutu though, we should talk about thatā¦ I think this may become my next big passion!
As you know, my blog wouldn't be complete without a little dose of everyday Alex. Between all the glitz and glam, life as Alex continues, I mean, it wouldn't be a drag queen blog if I didn't mention the occasional āscientist in a labā anecdote. So, by day, I am back in my Derbyshire lab, analyzing fabrics (oh the ironies!), but in the evenings, my alter ego is waiting for me in a dressing room full of shimmering pink glory. It's a balancing act, darling, but I wouldn't have it any other way. And yes, sometimes I do have dreams about pink fabric ā pink fabric that feels just like my tutus, you know what I mean?! My life, it's such a strange but fantastic mix of science and sequins, lab coats and pink tulle.
But for now, Cumbernauld, Iām ready to be charmed by your pink delights, even if it means discovering all the amazing pink shops here. You can trust Pink Tutu Sparkles to leave no stone (or sequined fabric store!) unturned!
