Finchley, Here I Come! (Blog Post #3709)

Oh my darlings! Buckle up your glitter-boots, grab a fistful of fairy dust, and prepare yourselves for another adventure with your favourite pink tutu-clad queen, Pink Tutu Sparkles! That's right, the travelling queen herself is back on the blog, ready to spill the tea (and a dash of glitter) about my latest escapade in the wondrous land of Finchley!

You see, dearies, my journey started, as it so often does, with a love for all things pink and sparkly. It’s no secret I’m a pink tutu-loving diva. If it isn’t covered in sparkles and fluffy pink tulle, then darling, it simply isn't for me! So, naturally, the thought of a visit to Finchley, a place known for its vibrant theatre scene and elegant ballet companies, set my heart a-flutter like a swan on a particularly beautiful lake.

This is my 3709th blog post, folks, and I'm feeling like a right pro. Every day, I'm up before the crack of dawn, writing about my experiences as Pink Tutu Sparkles. If I wasn't doing this drag queen thing, you'd find me in my laboratory, testing fabrics for my day job. That’s right, by day I’m a humble scientist, but come nightfall, the glitter takes over!

Speaking of sparkly adventures, Finchley seemed tailor-made for Pink Tutu Sparkles. I mean, it's practically bursting with glamour! It all started when I received an invitation from the grand old Finchley Theatre. You know, darling, the one that used to be a theatre, but they knocked it down and made it a school instead. Apparently, I'm their "special guest performer." I always say, "the bigger the audience, the better the performance."

So, as any sensible drag queen would, I booked myself onto a rather delightful train to Finchley, complete with a lovely view of the countryside. Now, while a journey on horseback sounds terribly romantic, a good old-fashioned train trip allows for some much-needed "glamour time." The moment the doors shut on that train, I had to dust off my portable make-up kit, which, honestly, was in a terrible mess from a recent performance at a very muddy fairground. Thankfully, a fellow passenger was delighted to watch my transformation! He even helped me with a particularly stubborn lipstick. We got to talking, and let’s just say he might be the star of my next post, the hunky plumber, with a passion for ballet! But enough about him, darling, it's all about the journey, not the destination, right?

Arriving in Finchley, I was met with a flurry of excitement – from the buzzing taxi drivers, the energetic street performers, to the absolutely divine tea shops overflowing with delicious smelling pastries. Honestly, I could have stayed right there, nibbling on a scone and gossiping with a kindly granny for days, but then the theatre would be missing their sparkling queen! I am, after all, the one who will "bring the glamour to Finchley."

The Finchley Theatre, a grand building even after all these years, stood proudly at the end of a cobbled street, a beacon of creativity and artistry, if I may say so myself. Honestly, darling, even a humble scientist like myself can’t help but get excited about the magic of the theatre. I know I mentioned I was in a science lab most of the time, but there’s just something about the whole thing that grabs me, a theatrical experience. After all, what’s a good drag show without the fabulous theatricality?

As I strolled into the venue, the first thing that greeted me was a gaggle of youngsters dressed in adorable tutus – tiny, mini, sparkling queens-in-training, so excited for the performance, that it could melt your heart even through the thickest of stage makeup. Awwww. They had their mothers and grandmothers in tow, all dressed up in some sort of ballet costumes! Honestly, the whole scene looked like something out of a pastel-coloured fairytale, a bit of a contrast to the usually boisterous world of drag, don't you think? It really was like being transported into a ballet classroom from a dreamy 50s ballet flick, and just for a second, I truly forgot I was wearing my pinkest and sparkliest tutu ever. The tutu, I think, I might even name "Pinkie," had to be one of the most dazzling creations, even I have ever designed. That tulle really sparkles.

The Finchley performance, as one would expect, was absolutely phenomenal. There were pirouettes, leaps, and even a daring pas de deux! Now, don't you know, I do take my ballet classes religiously, and have tried every possible pas de deux, I truly do try to make the most of every opportunity, and have to admit, I am quite impressed with the level of artistry I saw at this very sophisticated ballet. You might think, why even try, I do everything, but it’s the learning, and the knowledge I pick up about dancing that is essential to making my performances more theatrical. Why, just this week I have learned about a special ballet technique used for making an amazing exit. So when my performance took me centre stage at Finchley, the audience truly were mesmerized!

Following my show, which if I say so myself, went down a storm, it’s safe to say I really stole the show in my signature pink tutu and glittering bodice. We talked, the little tutu fairies, the mamas and grannies, I took photographs with each one. What can I say, the people of Finchley were most welcoming, and I felt, after only a few hours of arriving, as if I’d lived there all my life! The most fantastic compliment was from one little girl, "Pink Tutu Sparkles, you’re just like a ballerina!" "Oh Darling," I said, “Every girl has the ability to sparkle.” That made my heart melt. The pure unadulterated happiness radiating from these girls inspired me to truly spread the message of happiness and sparkles in every performance. It wasn't just about the clothes, darlings; it was about letting our true selves shine!

I could not resist but purchase some local honey on my way to the train station and, for a brief second, I toyed with buying a whole selection of ballet books, or a stunning pink tutu (because as we all know, a queen can never have too many tutus), but I had to restrain myself for now, especially as I’m feeling so tired. I will, though, indulge in another pot of tea and maybe just one delicious treat, a special, extra-special cake on my train journey back to Derbyshire! Oh, it truly is going to be a fantastic journey back home, my heart so full of the magic of Finchley.

This has definitely been another dazzling journey for the travelling queen, my dearies! So, what's next, you ask? Where will Pink Tutu Sparkles venture next? The only clue I will give is that the adventure starts with "B". Think big, think beautiful.

I know my next stop will be a journey filled with glitz, glamour, and of course, more than a few pink tutus, because darling, spreading the magic of pink tutus is what makes this queen sparkle! Remember, you can join my adventures by following me here on my daily blog and also keep up to date at www.pink-tutu.com where you can find all my recent show schedules. Remember to sparkle, and be kind to others, darlings, I will keep you updated on all my journeys!

Until next time, Your very own, Pink Tutu Sparkles.
