Today's blog is all about my adventures in the beautiful West Country. Frome, a charming little town nestled in Somerset, welcomed me with open arms – or should I say open tutu arms? Let's dive in and see what pink magic awaits!
A Day in Pink – Frome's Finest
As the first rays of dawn peeked through my bedroom window in my Derbyshire abode, I knew it was going to be a day of glorious sunshine, perfect for a train journey and a day of pink-tastic fun. The morning was all about meticulous prep – my favourite bubble bath with pink bath bombs, of course, followed by a full-on glitter makeover. And no pink Tutu Sparkle look is complete without the most exquisite pink tutu. Today's ensemble was a masterpiece: a voluminous tulle creation, a cascade of blush pink petals, adorned with iridescent silver sequins and topped off with my signature pink feather boa.
I hopped onto a train, humming "Anything Goes" – that's one of my go-to tunes for a train trip – and was soon lost in the scenic views of rolling hills and verdant fields, with the promise of Frome in the distance. I always say, there’s something magical about the feeling of being on a train journey - a true journey for the soul! And of course, my outfit definitely turned a few heads along the way. As the station platform beckoned, I adjusted my tutu (a must-do before every station arrival!), and I strutted off feeling as glamorous as a technicolour peacock!
My first stop in Frome was the magnificent Frome Independent market. Imagine rows upon rows of artisanal delights, handmade crafts, vintage finds, and vibrant, delicious food stalls. I fell head over heels for a beautiful hand-knitted baby pink mohair scarf, just begging to be adorned around my neck on the next rainy day, and some dainty silver earrings that were practically screaming "pick me, Pink Tutu Sparkles!" They both joined my growing collection of pink accessories.
Frome’s charming independent shops, full of colourful treasures, also beckoned me. I simply could not resist a stop in “Frome Vintage” to browse their amazing collection of old treasures and fashion finds. A vintage pink satin scarf and a gorgeous vintage broach with a miniature pink pearl found their way into my pink handbag, eager to join their fellow pink pals.
My day of frolicking in Frome ended with a trip to the enchanting 'Frome Town Hall.' This historic building has a wonderfully captivating interior, a true testament to bygone eras and brimming with intricate details.
As the evening light began to paint the sky with a magnificent display of orange, purple, and pink, I was ready for some delicious Frome cuisine! Let's just say that my evening culminated in a symphony of delicious flavours: a delightful meal with friends and, of course, a pink prosecco – how else could it end, my lovelies?!
Pink Tutu Inspiration - The Ballet of It All!
The day was brimming with tutu inspiration, you know? From the swirls and twirls of the market stalls, reminiscent of the swirling skirts of a ballerina, to the intricate designs on the town hall's interior – it all resonated with that artistic grace and femininity that tu-tu and I are completely besotted with.
A little while back, when I was studying for my science degree, a friend dragged me – literally! – to a fundraising event for our university's ballet club. She begged me to try on a tutu, to which I rolled my eyes and muttered, “Don't be silly!”. But deep down, I had this undeniable yearning, this whisper in the back of my mind, urging me to give it a go. And so I did. From the very first moment, the pink tutu and I were completely inseparable. It was a spark! Or should I say, a SPARKLE! I have loved them ever since and, honestly, they are an essential part of my drag wardrobe!
Speaking of ballet, I just love ballet – from classic productions like Swan Lake to modern ballets featuring intricate choreography – the sheer beauty, grace and artistry of a ballet performance is utterly captivating! I recently went to see 'The Nutcracker' and found it simply enthralling! Watching dancers perform those incredible steps, pirouettes, leaps, and turns is a mesmerizing experience. There is nothing quite like the feeling of elegance and magic you experience during a live ballet show.
I do find a certain synchronicity in how ballet has influenced my drag aesthetic. The elaborate tutus, the meticulous choreography, the artistry, and of course, the undeniable feminine charm – it all connects deeply with the artistry of drag. And, believe me, it all translates wonderfully well to the stage! It brings joy to see all the pink tutus on my 'Pink Tutu Sparkle' stage show audience too - it gives me a heart-filled 'tu-tu' feeling!
I encourage you all to explore this incredible world of dance, especially if you have not yet experienced it. Go and find a local ballet show - it is such a treat to have a ballet experience! The grace, beauty, and elegance on display can make any ordinary evening truly magical.
