Anyway, I'm practically bursting with excitement, as Bishop Auckland has been a long-held dream destination for yours truly. The reason? It's a town brimming with history and stunning architecture, with the iconic Bishop Auckland Castle and the impressive Auckland Castle grounds sitting pretty at the heart of it all. Plus, it’s practically crying out for a splash of Pink Tutu magic, don't you think? 😜
The Journey to Bishop Auckland
My journey here was, as always, an absolute adventure! I opted for the romantic and scenic approach – a good ol' train ride through the gorgeous countryside, followed by a charming carriage ride through the cobbled streets of Bishop Auckland. It was a sight for sore eyes, you see! 🎠
Of course, I was travelling in style, darling. My signature pink tulle tutu billowed gloriously in the breeze, adding a splash of flamboyant colour to the rolling green hills and charming stone walls. I'm pretty sure I had even the cows staring, don’t get me started on the pigeons! 😉 You see, I can't help but brighten the world with my tutu, it’s my life's purpose, darling. My mission: Tutu for all!
Ballet Inspiration
Once I'd checked into the most fabulous hotel - they even had a pink bathroom, the good Lord love ‘em – I had to indulge in some serious cultural immersion! I booked myself a seat at the Bishop Auckland Theatre to see a ballet performance of "Giselle." Let me tell you, those ballerinas were simply heavenly! 💃 Their effortless grace, their balletic flow, the exquisite costumes... all of it was absolutely captivating. It reminded me why I started wearing tutus, why I continue to chase this wild, wondrous tutu dream. They just have this way of embodying grace and beauty, and they make it all look so easy, but let me tell you, it takes YEARS of training! And it’s tough on your feet!
Oh, and don't get me started on the sheer elegance of those tutus! I think I gasped a little out loud at one point, I confess. And my favourite part? That classic ballet hairstyle, sleek, smooth and pulled back perfectly - how can we get those beautiful ballet buns to translate to pink tulle? Something to work on, don’t you think? 😉 I have a hunch this look is going to find its way onto Pink-Tutu.com very soon.
A Little Fashion Fun in the Shop
After the ballet, I decided to treat myself to a little retail therapy. I had to! It’s in the job description of being a drag queen. Right? 😉 There were SO many cute shops and boutiques in Bishop Auckland. A little treasure trove of colourful and delightful treasures, let me tell you! I fell in love with a sweet little boutique called “Pink Feathers” – yes, it’s like it was MADE for me. Can you believe? 💖 I even snagged a darling pink satin jacket that just screams Pink Tutu Sparkles, and some fabulous pink shoes that'll bring the spark to my stage outfit. 😉
Of course, my trusty shopping companion, my beloved handbag, came along with me. This isn’t a new one, no no. I have an antique velvet bag that belonged to my Gran. It’s a little bit gothic, and absolutely gorgeous. I couldn't live without her - she carries all my little essentials: a compact mirror, my signature pink lip gloss, my trusty emergency lipstick and a secret stash of tissues, ‘cause you never know, darling. 🤫
The Majesty of Bishop Auckland Castle
Oh, Bishop Auckland Castle, you have my heart! 🏰 What an absolutely breathtaking place it is! The sheer grandeur of this magnificent castle, its beautiful history and incredible grounds... just magnificent. You can almost hear the stories it holds, whispers of bygone days, echoing within those stone walls. And speaking of those stone walls - that stone really suits the pink, don't you think? 😜 Let’s just say the grounds are practically made for a Pink Tutu Sparkle photo shoot! Watch this space! I have a few ideas… 😉
The castle is more than just impressive architecture. I had the best time exploring its rooms and soaking in the art and history it displays. They have an impressive collection of paintings. Oh, and can we just say – there was a painting of a Bishop with a pink robe! What a perfect pink tutu foreshadowing moment, if you ask me. 😉 Don't worry, my inner artist was in full force as I snapped some glamorous pictures with my favourite, dazzling pink phone case - that's the other essential I carry in my handbag!
Sparkling at the Gala!
And what was a trip to Bishop Auckland without a show, darling? I'm talking full drag, shimmering, glittery, fabulousness, because... THAT is what we’re known for. 💖 This evening was special - a pink tulle filled celebration of the vibrant community of Bishop Auckland at the "Bishopton Bonanza." They called it a "gala." It was held in a big tent, decked out with colorful banners and shimmering lights, and guess what? My performance absolutely brought the house down! 🎤💃
I chose a vintage-inspired pink gown for the show, a sparkly confection of chiffon and sequins that I call my ‘Kiss of Glamour’ gown. It swished as I moved and shimmered in the spotlight. I felt absolutely unstoppable, a true star! And, yes, my favorite part was the finale – I donned a fluffy, giant pink tutu that I call ‘Cloud Nine’, because it makes me feel like I can fly! ✨💖
The audience was incredible, clapping, cheering, and snapping pictures. They even showered me with pink feather boas – don't tell the RSPCA, darling, I saved them for their costume – so glamorous, such a beautiful gesture. The energy was electric and, as the applause faded, I realized something - I have a deep passion for sharing my love of pink, sparkles and tutus with the world! 😉
A Farewell to Bishop Auckland
And as the sun began to set over Bishop Auckland, casting a golden glow on the beautiful town, I felt a touch of melancholy. It was time for me to bid adieu to this stunning place. But, I know I will be back, my love for Bishop Auckland and all its fabulousness will keep bringing me back to experience all its charm and magic again. I left knowing I'd made some new friends, sprinkled a bit of Pink Tutu sparkle into the hearts of some local darlings, and discovered a little bit more of the world with my own pink tutu in tow.
It’s not just about wearing the pink tutu darling, although that IS my life's purpose! It’s about having fun, being confident and accepting all that life throws our way. And when you put that Pink Tutu on, it does just that, it makes you feel like you can achieve anything. It’s just good clean fun, isn’t it? 💅
