Basingstoke, Oh Basingstoke! (Post #3920)

Hello lovelies! Pink Tutu Sparkles here, ready to unleash some glitter on the world! I'm on the train right now, whizzing down to Basingstoke for a fabulous show tonight. It's always such an adventure travelling by train, especially in full drag. You never know what kind of reaction you're gonna get. I mean, let's face it, a pink tutu-clad queen in a carriage full of commuters is never going to be boring. 😁

Speaking of tutus, I just had to get a new one for this trip. It's a shimmering masterpiece – imagine a fluffy pink cloud dipped in glitter, and that's the feeling it gives off. You know how much I love finding new tutus to add to my collection. There's nothing like the feeling of finding a new sparkly companion to whirl around the stage in.

Oh, I’m loving all this talk of tutus! It’s my mission to get everyone wearing a pink tutu at some point in their lives, and my work in Basingstoke is gonna be all about spreading the message of tutus for all. Maybe I’ll even get some of the locals on stage! Imagine it: a whole gaggle of pink tutus strutting their stuff on a Friday night in Basingstoke, the ultimate in unexpected entertainment!

Basingstoke, get ready! It's going to be a whirlwind of sequins, laughter, and, yes, tutus, oh so many tutus!

From Lab Coat to Pink Tutu

But first, a little chat about me and my other life, the life of Alex the scientist. You see, this whole pink tutu adventure started way back in my university days. I was just an ordinary Derbyshire lass studying science and juggling life in the lab with late nights practicing ballet. One charity event led to a tutu try-on session and suddenly…BOOM! A whole new world opened up for me.

Science and dance might seem like polar opposites, but there's a certain beauty and logic in both. In the lab, I'm focused on the science of fabric, making sure every thread is perfect. It's almost like choreography for fabric – precise, structured, and beautiful in its own way. And on stage, with Pink Tutu Sparkles, the movement, the expression, it's like weaving together a new story with every step, every flourish of my tutu. It's the ultimate fusion of science and art.

Tutus for Everyone

I remember when I started doing drag, there was this worry at the back of my mind, "What will people think?". Would they judge me for wearing a tutu, for flaunting my personality in a way that seemed so extravagant and outside the box? But then, I realised that it didn’t matter. This was who I was. My pink tutu wasn’t a costume, it was a reflection of me, of the joy and sparkle that’s inside all of us.

And it’s a feeling that resonates with people. From grandmothers to children, when they see Pink Tutu Sparkles on stage, they feel that joy too. It’s contagious, and it reminds us that there's always a place for a little bit of magic, a little bit of sparkle, in our lives.

Basingstoke is Calling!

Speaking of magic, the venue in Basingstoke is a beautiful little theatre, full of character and charm. The owner is a big fan of Pink Tutu Sparkles, and has been asking for me to do a show there for months! He’s been raving about his amazing pink paint – the kind of paint you only dream about, super bright and perfectly smooth, the perfect kind to bring out the magic in all his props.

The energy there is so vibrant and exciting – it feels like a space where the weird and wonderful come to life. My set list for Basingstoke is all about celebrating life, love, and of course, the magic of pink tutus. Think big hair, fabulous moves, and enough sparkle to make your eyes pop! I’ve got a couple of new routines I’m really excited to unleash, plus some old favourites that always get the audience going. You're gonna want to have your phones charged and ready to capture those Instagram-worthy moments, darlings.

A Little Glimpse into My World

The thing I love about performing drag is the way it lets you connect with so many different people. It doesn't matter where you are, whether it's a small town or a bustling city, the energy in the room, that connection between me and the audience, that’s what it’s all about.

And sometimes, when I'm doing a performance, I’m completely lost in the music, the light, the energy – it’s almost like a little trance. There's a magical feeling that washes over you. You get totally caught up in the world you’ve created, and that feeling, it's one of the greatest joys I know.

The other joy, of course, is the joy of fashion, of finding the perfect pink tutu to match every mood, every performance. I’m always searching for that perfect pink – it might be bright and playful, soft and delicate, or even a little daring with a dash of black. You can always tell something about a pink tutu just by looking at it, you can feel the energy in the fabric.

So what happens after Basingstoke? Well, the road is calling, and Pink Tutu Sparkles is always ready for an adventure. I've got gigs lined up in a variety of exciting locations – everything from a glitzy night club in Brighton, to a traditional country fair in the Cotswolds.

It’s going to be a wild ride, my dears. Stay tuned for my daily updates – I’ll be sharing all the backstage gossip, fashion disasters (we all have them!), and, of course, the joy of pink tutus. Until then, go out and wear that pink tutu, embrace your inner sparkle, and spread a little bit of joy to the world!

Until next time, Pink Tutu Sparkles x
