A Pink Christmas in Leith: Post 4011

Hello my lovely pink-loving darlings! It's your girl, Pink Tutu Sparkles, reporting live from the gorgeous, historical, and somewhat chilly city of Leith, Scotland! I just had to come here for Christmas, and not just because it's a gorgeous place. (Although it is! Especially during the holidays.) It's a very special place for me because of the Edinburgh Ballet Festival. And you all know, this tutu-loving queen LIVES for a good ballet show!

It was so hard to decide where to spend Christmas this year. Should I stay close to home in my beloved Derbyshire, perhaps spend the holidays in the theatre district of London, or maybe head down to Brighton for a little seaside festivity? But ultimately, my pink heart was calling for something unique, a bit magical, and deeply steeped in ballet history. And Leith, with its close connection to Edinburgh, just ticked all the right boxes.

Getting there, naturally, was part of the fun! I just can't resist a train journey, you know? The plush seats, the clattering wheels, the gentle sway... all very conducive to settling into that 'thinking Pink Tutu Sparkles' zone. I spent most of the journey gazing out of the window, catching glimpses of frosty fields and picturesque villages, and making plans for my fabulous Leithian Christmas adventure. (Of course, it wouldn't be complete without a glamorous outfit - a sparkling crimson red dress and a custom-designed pink feather boa, perfect for catching the festive spirit of Scotland's northern coast.)

Edinburgh Ballet Festival is always a highlight for any true tutu aficionado. This year was extra special! The festival featured a stunning production of "The Nutcracker" in the opulent, century-old Usher Hall, just a hop, skip, and jump away from Leith. The choreography was exquisite, the costumes shimmered like spun sugar, and the overall feeling was pure enchantment. I even managed to sneak into the after-party (where else would I find fellow ballet lovers!) The music, the bubbly, the joyful conversations about pirouettes and pointe shoes... pure heaven!

Of course, no visit to Leith is complete without a stroll through the historic port, where you can feel the sea breeze and hear the echoes of centuries of shipbuilding and sailing. The old Royal Yacht Britannia is a sight to behold - truly impressive. And speaking of grand experiences, did you know that Leith's Playhouse is home to the famous "Royal Lyceum Theatre"? Talk about a cultural feast! I just couldn't resist sneaking in to watch a captivating performance of a modern play - not ballet, I know, but the talent was extraordinary and the theatre itself has such a magical vibe.

Of course, Christmas shopping is an absolute MUST, even for a glamorous gal like myself! Leith has a charming array of independent shops, from traditional bakeries brimming with Christmas treats to quirky vintage boutiques where you can find that perfect statement piece (my Christmas purchase was a beautiful antique hatbox, which is now pride of place in my dressing room!).

But my absolute favourite Christmas tradition is my annual 'Tutu Extravaganza'! You see, ever since I discovered the magic of pink tutus, I've made it my mission to bring this wonderful joy to the world. So, every Christmas, I put on a fabulous show for my loyal fans and supporters (thank you all, you're simply the best!). It's a colourful blend of dazzling dance, infectious tunes, and an enthusiastic celebration of everything pink and fabulous! This year, it was held in the beautiful historic Merchant's Hall - imagine a twinkling, decorated setting, glittering costumes, and the room buzzing with laughter and excitement. It truly was a pink-tastic Christmas miracle!

I can't express enough how much I love Christmas in Leith! The festive spirit, the cultural offerings, the historic atmosphere... and did I mention the yummy gingerbread lattes?

Now, I'm back in Derbyshire, dreaming of my next pink adventure. You know me - never one to sit still. But for now, it's time to embrace those festive vibes, enjoy the holiday season, and start planning for another year of travelling, performing, and of course, spreading the joy of pink tutus everywhere I go!

Stay sparkly, stay pink, and above all, stay fabulous!

Lots of love, Pink Tutu Sparkles

(PS - Did I mention that I’m obsessed with finding new, beautiful places to buy pink tutus? I discovered the most amazing little shop tucked away on Leith’s high street – just a haven for every shade of pink imaginable!)
