Melton Mowbray: A Tutu-ific Time in the Heart of Leicestershire!

Hello my darling Tutu Twirlers, it's your favourite pink-tastic drag queen, Pink Tutu Sparkles, signing in live from Melton Mowbray! This is blog post number 4108, and trust me, you'll want to keep this one tucked away in your glittery bookmarks for a proper good read, because I've got all the juicy details from my recent fabulous jaunt to this Leicestershire gem.

First off, let me tell you about my journey – I hopped on the train from Derbyshire, of course, with my trusty, oh-so-sparkly, tutu bag strapped to my shoulder. You know I like to travel in style, darlings! As the countryside whizzed by, I popped open my glittery pink lunchbox, (because a queen's gotta eat!) and enjoyed some sparkling raspberry and rose water while I looked over my meticulously crafted travel plan, oh yes!

Now, Melton Mowbray might not be the first place that springs to mind when you think of glamour, but let me tell you, this town is bursting with unexpected charm and definitely had my tutu-lovin' heart aflutter! Arriving in the late afternoon sunshine, I felt like I was stepping straight into a whimsical fairytale. The streets were buzzing with locals enjoying the warm weather, their faces alight with friendly smiles. I felt immediately welcomed and utterly fabulous!

My first port of call was the Melton Mowbray Market. My darlings, what a glorious sight! Stalls overflowing with fresh fruit and vegetables, stalls overflowing with colourful fabrics that I just knew would inspire my next tutu creation. I swear, the entire market had me positively dancing with delight, and I felt the pink-est glow! My love affair with markets is well-documented, don't you worry, you know it's all about the atmosphere, the people, and the promise of unexpected finds, which leads me to...

A dazzling vintage clothing shop called "Ruby's Retro Emporium!" Now, my fellow fashionistas, this is where the real fun began! I discovered an absolutely heavenly vintage feather boa in a magnificent shade of blush pink! Honestly, it was practically screaming my name, so of course, it was coming home with me. You can't resist destiny, darlings, especially when it comes with a little extra feather. The shop also had some rather wonderful sparkly pink tights - absolutely perfect for layering under my signature tutu. Oh, I can't wait to unveil my new look on my next stage performance!

Now, what's a visit to Melton Mowbray without some pork pies, you ask? Well, my darlings, it's quite simply unheard of! It was clear the pies were something of a local treasure, and even though I’m strictly a vegetarian, I just couldn't resist picking up a pastry-wrapped treat for a taste of the local culinary experience. The pastry was flaky, the meat was seasoned to perfection, and even this tutu queen had to admit – this was pie perfection!

Speaking of perfection, I just had to make my way to the majestic Melton Mowbray Theatre! Built in 1902, it’s a glorious example of Victorian architecture, with its intricate detailing and beautiful, soaring ceilings. The atmosphere was simply electrifying, and I could almost feel the echoes of countless performances from the past. While I couldn’t stay to enjoy a full show this time, just catching a glimpse of this stunning venue was a real treat for my artistic soul.

And no trip to Melton Mowbray would be complete without a spot of ballet, darlings! This time, it wasn't a professional performance, but a ballet class hosted by the charmingly named "Mowbray Ballet Academy." Honestly, the sheer joy of watching young dancers practicing their routines, with the sun streaming through the studio window, was truly heartwarming. These talented young performers reminded me of the passion and dedication that keeps us tutu-loving queens going.

The highlight of my trip had to be a visit to the local horse-drawn carriage service, "Melton Mowbray Carriage Tours!" Now, my fellow glamour-puss, have you ever been driven around a historic town by a magnificent team of horses? Well, darling, let me tell you, it’s quite the experience. Dressed to the nines in a vibrant pink silk scarf (perfectly matched to my tutu, of course) I felt every inch the grand lady. The horses pranced gracefully as I reveled in the warm summer air and the scenic beauty of Melton Mowbray. You see, my darlings, I believe true elegance is a combination of poise, confidence, and a bit of pink.

And of course, no day trip is complete without a stop at a quaint, tea shop, where the locals enjoy a delightful pot of tea, with slices of freshly-baked cake. You’ve probably seen this part of the story in countless movies. In my case, the cake was topped with delicate pink icing and rose petal sprinkles - truly a divine indulgence for a Tutu Queen. The aroma of fresh tea leaves filled the air, making the whole experience positively charming.

All in all, Melton Mowbray, you've stolen a bit of my heart. This town had everything a fashionable pink tutu queen could ever wish for: a sense of community, the promise of fun and laughter, a dash of elegance, and a hint of whimsy. So, whether you’re looking for a fun weekend away, a little culture, a bit of vintage shopping, or simply a beautiful place to lose yourself for a few hours, don't miss out on this wonderful, little corner of England.

And, of course, don’t forget, you’re all gorgeous! Be true to your colours, let your tutu wave, and never forget the power of a pink sparkly moment. And if you’re in doubt, wear a tutu! Until next time, darlings, keep your sparkle strong!

Lots of love and glittering wishes, Your dearest Pink Tutu Sparkles, (Aka Alex!)
