Ashington Calling! #TutuQueen Takes On The North East

Hello, darling darlings! Pink Tutu Sparkles here, ready to fill your days with glitter and twirls! This is post number 4364, and I'm buzzing to be back on the blog after a whirlwind trip up north to the charming town of Ashington.

This past weekend was all about taking my sparkly self out of the city lights and onto the rolling hills of the north east! As you know, a Pink Tutu Sparkles adventure is never complete without a sprinkle of glam, and let me tell you, my trip to Ashington was a glorious, pink-tastic time!

You've probably guessed by now, but this TutuQueen adores trains! I have such a fondness for those smooth journeys through the countryside. You can never beat the view of the fields as they fly by. This time, I indulged in a first-class ticket (because, well, why not treat myself?). I packed my little pink suitcase (with plenty of space for all those spare tutus!), sat back, and let the rhythm of the wheels on the track carry me away.

Now, Ashington - you are not just a charming little town; you're full of surprises! I arrived with my heart full of excitement and ready to experience your hidden gems. My dear friend, Barbara, a fellow tutu enthusiast, lives in Ashington and offered me a place to crash. And let's just say her home was a pink haven. Oh, you should see her wardrobe!

Of course, no visit to a new town would be complete without a trip to the theatre. So, naturally, my first port of call was the Ashington Working Menā€™s Club. Now, I know what youā€™re thinking - Working Menā€™s Club? Pink Tutu Sparkles? It might seem a little out there, but this club has an amazing, intimate theatre space and you wouldnā€™t believe the variety of shows they host. I saw a delightful amateur dramatics group performing ā€œOliver Twistā€, and my goodness, the whole room lit up when that famous London fog scene rolled in.

Next up on my Ashington agenda was the Ashington Ballet Academy! I've always been drawn to ballet, ever since those early childhood dreams of pirouettes and pointe shoes (that never quite came to fruition). I was just mesmerised by the young talents, and of course, had a little dance in the studio myself! Now, imagine my surprise when they had the most dazzling collection of pink tutus ā€“ like something straight out of a fairytale! It was like a little pink cloud of delight and made my tutu-loving heart sing! Of course, I took a little spin for them, a bit of twirling for the camera, and then let them try out my new sparkly ā€œDancing in the Pinkā€ tutu. Let's just say, we were both on cloud nine!

There's something about being in a small town that brings out the creativity, the genuine desire to get out there and perform. I found that in abundance in Ashington! Thereā€™s an open-mic night at the town pub (not surprising, considering how many talented singers and poets are around!) I got up on stage (tu-tu-turnt!) and serenaded the audience with "What's Pink?ā€ And boy, those Ashington ladies do know how to sing along, especially to a queen with a bright pink tutu. The entire pub was covered in confetti by the time I finished the song. Oh, it was wonderful!

Ashington might not be your first choice for a getaway, but let me tell you, this place has charm, heart, and so much talent! I spent my days soaking up the history of the town - oh, did you know about its incredible connection to mining and its fascinating "pit ponies"? (And let's be honest, the ponies have the most adorable pink tutu potential!). Ashington even has a quirky little ā€œpink-lovingā€ shop in the town center. It was an Aladdinā€™s cave of pretty clothes and accessories - they had everything you could imagine: pink hats, pink socks, pink feather boas! It made my heart sing like a ballerina, and I just knew I had to get a few souvenirs. Iā€™m pretty sure I spent all day there!

But itā€™s not all pink, sequins, and ballet - I spent some time reflecting, taking in the quiet beauty of Ashington. I took a long walk through the Ashington Woods ā€“ a secret treasure I had only heard whisperings of, and just imagine it: the scent of fresh pine, the soft green of ferns... It's all so peaceful, so natural.

I truly enjoyed my trip, and Ashington now holds a special place in my heart! This TutuQueen is a city girl at heart, but Ashington has this charming energy ā€“ it's like a cosy embrace. I left feeling relaxed, inspired, and even more convinced that the world needs a little more pink, sparkle, andā€¦ yes, pink tutus!

Next on the tutu trail: Edinburgh! I canā€™t wait to take my Pink Tutu Sparkles journey north of the border! Until next time, darling darlings - remember to wear your sparkle and twirl on!
