Hello my fabulous darlings! It's your favourite pink tutu-wearing diva, Pink Tutu Sparkles, here, reporting live from the beautiful city of Derby! As you know, my mission in life is to get everyone rocking a pink tutu, and this trip to the heart of Derbyshire is all about spreading the pink tulle love.
This past weekend was a whirl of pink frocks, frothy petticoats and plenty of high-kicks. Oh, how I love this fabulous life! I’m so glad I decided to get myself on a train, because my journey from London to Derby was utterly delightful. I found the cutest little cafe on the station platform selling homemade cakes and hot chocolate, and the carriages were as stylish as my own ballgown!
As always, my luggage was crammed with fabulousness. This trip, my bag held a dozen pink tutus in every conceivable shade, a sparkly crown, my lucky pair of ruby red stilettos, and of course, my very special sequined bodice!
Once I arrived in Derby, the streets were alive with excitement. I knew I had chosen the right weekend because it was the city's annual Craft and Design Fair, and what better opportunity to share the joy of tutus with the masses?
Sparkling Success at the Craft and Design Fair
First stop: The market square! With a wave of my feather boa and a “hello, lovelies!”, I made my grand entrance, stopping traffic and stealing hearts all in one glamorous swoop. My custom-designed stand was a sight to behold – a shimmering wonderland of tulle and sparkle. I’d spent weeks prepping, making miniature pink tutus for everyone from the littlest of tots to the most dapper of dads!
Let me tell you, these folks in Derby are absolute sweethearts. There was hardly a soul who passed by without at least a glance and a "you're looking fabulous!" It’s moments like these that remind me why I do this – the joy I see on everyone’s faces when they’re presented with a mini pink tutu is utterly priceless.
Of course, no visit to Derby would be complete without a visit to the iconic Derby Theatre. It’s truly a historic gem, boasting stunning architecture and an air of timeless grace. To my delight, I stumbled upon a ballet performance of Swan Lake. Oh, how I love ballet! I found myself mesmerised by the elegance and precision of the dancers as they flitted across the stage.
And you know what? My journey to Derby sparked a new dream. The theatre is planning a special "Ballet for Everyone" event later in the year, and I’m already dreaming up the perfect pink tutu ensemble for my performance. I envision a grand finale where all the attendees, from children to grandmas, join me onstage for a grand finale – all in their very own pink tutus, of course!
The Real Pink Tutu Sparkles: Alex's Science and Sequins
Now, let's talk a little bit about the person behind the sparkle, the mastermind behind the tutus, Alex. I might wear sequins by night, but by day, I’m actually a scientist – yes, you heard right! My lab is filled with beakers, microscopes and a very particular interest in testing the durability of fabric. Imagine the irony, my love! A girl who's a total girly-girl, rocking pink tutus in a room full of scientific instruments.
For years, I've balanced the science lab and the stage lights, finding strength and creativity in both worlds. And you know what? Sometimes the inspiration flows between these seemingly opposite spheres of life. When I’m in my lab testing textiles, I’m dreaming up new tutus, and when I'm performing, I’m exploring the complex textures of performance, applying a bit of scientific precision to my choreography!
Being Alex and being Pink Tutu Sparkles isn’t about two separate personalities. It's about two sides of the same coin. My alter ego, the glam queen Pink Tutu Sparkles, allows me to fully express my joy, my passion for fashion, my love of sparkle. And that same spark allows me to create and experiment in my work, to embrace my unique place in the world.
