Ashton, Lancashire: The Pinkest of Travels

Hello, darlings! Your Pink Tutu Queen, reporting live from the utterly delightful town of Ashton! It's been a whirlwind journey, a positively glamorous romp, but oh, so worth every single twirl! You see, a proper Queen like myself can't resist a chance to explore new towns and leave a little bit of pink magic wherever she goes. And let's be honest, who can say no to a weekend jaunt up north, particularly when there's the possibility of some rather delightful ballet to catch?

Now, I know what you're thinking: "Pink Tutu Sparkles on a train?! Surely not, darling!" But fear not, dear followers! I was whisked away in the most fabulously comfortable train carriage, a journey full of sunshine and happy chit-chat with fellow passengers (all of whom seemed mesmerised by my extra-large pink pom-pom hat, of course! A touch of Pink Tutu Queen's magic for your daily commute - who doesn't love a little bit of that?)

Once I reached Ashton, I was immediately captivated by the charming cobbled streets and charming Victorian buildings. They simply oozed old-world charm, and even managed to do it without a hint of pink! A bit disappointing in the colour department, darling, but not enough to dull my twinkle.

Now, about the ballet - it was a performance of Swan Lake, my favourite! The Ashton Theatre, built back in the 18th century, held a sense of history, with all its elegant drapes and twinkling lights, and they even had an intermission buffet with finger sandwiches and cucumber scones (my inner Duchess couldn't have been more pleased)! Of course, I had to give my critique of the performance, because a Queen can’t simply leave a performance without sharing her opinion, right? I'd say it was utterly breathtaking, even better than that gorgeous Swan Lake I caught in London a few months back! The ballerina dancing the role of Odette had a precision of movement, she moved so gracefully it was positively hypnotic! And those pirouettes? Oh, honey, her legs simply went on forever! A performance that will stay with me for months, you can bet your feather boas!

However, Ashton’s allure wasn't simply confined to its impressive theatre! As I wandered the streets in my custom-made, pink sequin dress (a delightful combination of whimsy and elegance if ever I’ve seen one!), I felt such a sense of local warmth I couldn't help but chat with some of the residents. Oh, darling, it was simply the loveliest interaction. We talked about the local bakery, about the market, and of course, I briefly touched upon the beauty of wearing pink.

My quest to inspire everyone to embrace pink tutus is never ending. Each time I go to a new town or city, it’s almost a sort of unspoken mission for me to spread the pink love and inspire. One might ask: what was this Ashton escapade’s result? I managed to coax a lovely young gentleman into wearing a bright pink beanie with my autograph! Such a start, isn’t it?! The seed has been sown! Who knows what sort of vibrant bloom we'll see in future generations, perhaps this lad will inspire everyone he knows to embrace a splash of pink in their life. I believe in my heart this may be the moment when Ashton embraced a new shade of brilliance!

The weekend wasn’t simply about spreading pink joy and soaking in ballet! Oh no, my darlings, I wouldn’t leave you hanging! There was also a performance of my own, held at a wonderfully traditional pub called The Dog and Barrel (although honestly, darling, a ‘Dog and Tiara’ would have fit much more with the evening!) The entire experience felt almost surreal; I took the stage, strutting in my vibrant, candy-floss pink, tulle-filled outfit, and with every sequin that shimmered, I could hear the roaring applause! And when I took a bow, the entire pub erupted with shouts of "Bravo!" The night concluded with my favourite, "It's A Small World", where I got to spin and twirl amongst a crowd of cheering and waving spectators, their faces painted with smiles as bright as the glitter on my costume! And let me tell you, darling, it simply warms your very core, performing in such an intimate setting! There was such a raw energy in the room. It's what makes drag so utterly spectacular. The sense of unity and joyful connection. The reminder that no matter who we are or where we come from, a shared experience, even for a night, can bring such incredible joy.

And now, after a delightful weekend of dancing, performing, and soaking in all the delights that Ashton had to offer, I head back to Derbyshire, where a busy schedule awaits, full of scientific discoveries (because when I'm not performing or wearing pink tutus, I'm a full-fledged scientist in my lab!) And let’s be honest, I couldn't be more thrilled. My life, full of contrasts - it's so quintessentially me!

Now, darlings, I shall be signing off but not before urging you to:

  • Embrace pink! Pink tutus are fabulous but let's face it: pink's not a one-outfit situation. There's room for pink everything in the world: pink glasses, pink bicycles, pink hair, you name it! (Just don’t forget the pink tulle for special occasions, it’s a rule, darlings.)
  • Explore your local theatre scene. No matter your location, whether it be in a big city or a little town, there’s sure to be something worth seeing. It’s always an inspiration to see others in action!
  • Get out there and twirl! You don't need a tutu to do it (though I strongly recommend it) Just be your fabulous selves and share a little bit of pink magic with the world. It’s a truly delightful sensation!

Oh, and if you happen to be in Ashton yourself, be sure to pay a visit to the local bakeries. They make absolutely delightful pastries.

Until next time, darling,

Your Pink Tutu Queen.

Pink Tutu Sparkles.
