Hello my lovelies, and welcome to Pink Tutu Sparkles, the one and only place online for pink tutu tips, tricks and twirls! This is post number 4916 (who's counting!), and as you all know, I live for travel, especially when I get to unleash my inner princess in the most dazzling pink tutus!
Today I’m sharing a snippet of my latest trip – Derby! As soon as I saw this gig come up, I knew I had to be there. A gorgeous venue with the promise of an even more gorgeous crowd. Honestly, a drag queen’s dream! Plus, Derby is so close to my heart. I spent my youth flitting about the countryside there – exploring its charming market squares, the thrill of discovering hidden alleyways full of vintage treasures, and a sneaking peek at those stately houses with their perfectly manicured gardens!
My journey started with a cheeky jaunt in a vintage double-decker bus – a true blast from the past! With the sunshine beaming through the windows and the rumble of the engine as my soundtrack, I felt the most glamorous queen in the world. Oh, how I wish I had a photo! Alas, a good queen always knows the best time to flaunt!
As soon as I arrived in Derby, I knew I had to immerse myself in the town’s beautiful historic spirit. First up: The Derby Museum and Art Gallery! I was utterly captivated by the exquisite pottery, especially the breathtaking "The Spirit of the Rose" collection – I imagined these delicate blooms swirling into my latest tutu designs. Then, off I went to explore the Derby Cathedral. Talk about an iconic landmark! Its stunning architecture, the serene atmosphere, the whispers of centuries past – I could have lingered there for hours. I swear I saw a beautiful Victorian woman in a white lace gown flit past. I tried to discreetly follow her, but she melted into a bustling group of schoolchildren, haha!
Next on my pink tutu itinerary: the Royal Crown Derby! (Don't you just adore that name?) Oh, the grandeur, the craftsmanship, the intricate details on each piece of porcelain! I almost fainted from sheer delight!
Of course, every visit to Derby has to include a visit to its historic Silk Mill. I was completely blown away by the machinery! To think, it was the birthplace of the cotton spinning industry in Britain! It was as if the walls hummed with history and the energy of those who toiled tirelessly to build a better world. I felt a tingle in my own creative bones!
Feeling positively inspired, I popped into the Dressy Affair Boutique to replenish my wardrobe. I snagged a shimmering pink blouse that was practically calling my name and a sequined mini-skirt that is begging to be twirled in front of the mirror. (Stay tuned for my upcoming Pink Tutu Challenge where I showcase how you can rock the glitter look in your everyday life).
But it wasn't just about historical delights, darling. The highlight of my trip? Oh, darling, I just had to experience the Royal Ballet at the Theatre Royal! Oh, the elegance! The graceful steps, the beautiful costumes, the soaring melodies – it transported me to another world. And the exquisite sets! (I am seriously thinking about crafting my own for my next show, don’t you think it's time Pink Tutu Sparkles adds a little "theatre" to the act?) I sat there utterly mesmerised, tears pricking at my eyes.
Then, it was finally time for the reason I travelled all this way! The stage was calling! My outfit? Why, nothing short of fabulous, of course. A delicate, swirling pink tutu that whispered secrets in the breeze, a bodice studded with glitter that reflected a thousand rainbows, and a matching feather boa for good measure. I simply oozed confidence as I took the stage, my sequined slippers a flash of silver as I sashayed across the stage.
The audience erupted with applause! And I was beaming right back! We danced, we laughed, we twirled, and it was absolutely magical. Every single heart in that room seemed to vibrate with joy! And I'll admit, darling, I felt like I was twirling on a cloud of pure bliss. It was the perfect ending to a truly wonderful day!
Oh, before I forget - every single soul at the Derby fair seemed so thrilled to see me. Everyone, men, women and children alike, wearing my favourite colour. (Of course it’s PINK! Is that even a question?). It made my heart swell with pride. And that, my dears, is what it's all about. Making the world a more dazzling place, one pink tutu at a time!
