Portsmouth, Oh Portsmouth!

Hello darlings! It's your favourite Pink Tutu Queen, back with you again with post number 5163, and oh my, it's a real treat today. Today, I'm about to share with you the sparkly wonders of a recent jaunt to the stunning seaside town of Portsmouth, and let me tell you, it was utterly fabulous! You know I love a bit of a train journey, and this was no exception. The journey down to the south coast was positively delightful. It gave me ample opportunity to sketch out new designs for my next Pink Tutu collection (it's going to be all about seaside hues and patterns, just you wait!).

The train was packed with people on their way to a lovely day out, families with rosy-cheeked children all excited about the day ahead, and even a group of teenagers, bless them, looking a little worse for wear after a night out. But don't worry, I stayed right at the front, ensconced in a corner with my favourite book - The Complete Ballet History - and a bag full of pink tulle. After all, a drag queen's never truly out of drag, just blending in a bit more.

Portsmouth, as you know, is just teeming with history. A proper bustling little harbour, full of ships and seagulls and just the perfect backdrop for a vibrant, twirling tutu queen. And twirl I did, my darlings, twirl I did.

The first thing that struck me was the atmosphere. It's got such a charm, like a vintage postcard brought to life. With a touch of that salty sea air, the cobbled streets and charming cafes, the little shops crammed with treasures. You just know, instinctively, you're going to find something special, something beautiful. And I wasn't disappointed, that's for sure!

First things first - we had to make a pilgrimage to the Royal Naval Museum. Now, I know what you're thinking, "Alex, not a naval museum!" But I assure you, this place had it all. It wasn't just all cannons and sails - although there was a lot of that, too! There were also some really beautiful pieces of art and stunning historical relics, all bathed in soft light and filled with stories. I swear I could almost hear the whispers of pirates and sailors. It was fascinating, truly fascinating!

The museum was practically dripping in glamour, especially after a little bit of Pink Tutu magic. I couldn't resist throwing on my favourite pink boa, a feather hat with a delicate lace veil, and just the smallest hint of glitter - after all, a drag queen's gotta be dazzling at every turn! It was, dare I say, a little extra.

Oh, speaking of extra, let me tell you, a visit to Portsmouth isn't complete without a spot of vintage shopping. You know how I feel about a bit of vintage, darlings. That's how I started! The first pink tutu that sent me spiralling into this life... oh, but I'll save that tale for another day.

My goodness, those vintage shops in Portsmouth, oh my. A treasure trove! I walked into a charming little antique emporium on a street bustling with tourists, with all its old furniture and jewellery, and just got caught in its vintage spell. I had to grab myself a darling little hand-mirror - a proper, proper beauty, with a delicate enamel design, to help my daily practice. I knew instantly it'd look amazing nestled amongst my own vintage dressing table pieces, right alongside the antique sewing machine and the very fancy lipstick stand. Now, I've been a bit more daring and have been playing around with lipstick colours in keeping with my Pink Tutu image! I was brave enough to use a bit of hot pink this week!

Lunchtime arrived, and what's a girl to do? You know I'm a huge foodie, always on the lookout for something truly delicious, and this day was no exception. Let's be honest, every city has the standard restaurants, right? Burgers, pizza, sandwiches. But Portsmouth had something special waiting for me - a small, hidden gem of a cafe that I had discovered tucked away in a charming courtyard, overflowing with blooms.

The sun was shining, the birds were chirping, the aroma of freshly baked bread and coffee was in the air. It was utter perfection, the very picture of a idyllic afternoon! I was served a truly delectable lunch: a salmon and dill panini with a side of green salad. And of course, no day trip would be complete without a delicious, perfectly pink slice of raspberry sponge! And as I took that first blissful bite, I had one of those magical "Ah ha!" moments, you know? The kind of moment when you realise you've discovered a place that just gets you.

The evening called for more magic, so I went searching for somewhere that would feel fitting. You know me, I always look for something just a little bit theatrical, a little bit fabulous. And lucky for me, I found it right there in the heart of Portsmouth. There was a beautiful theatre tucked away on a cobblestone street. It looked as if it hadn't changed a bit in decades! The air hung heavy with the scent of history and a touch of magic.

After a whirlwind of exploration through the theatre, it was time for my big finale - and that meant, of course, the grand Pink Tutu Performance. The theatre owner, a delightful woman with a twinkle in her eye, had been utterly thrilled by the whole "Pink Tutu Sparkles" concept, even allowing me to dress up the venue with some sparkly tulle and balloons. Just a touch of magic, wouldn't you agree?

I danced on the stage, twirling my way through a choreographed set list of favourites: "I Will Survive", "Girls Just Want to Have Fun", even a touch of ballet-inspired twirls - I'm a classically-trained ballerina, after all! My heart swelled with the sheer joy of sharing this love with all these beautiful souls who had gathered to be part of something fabulous, to experience the joy of the Pink Tutu spirit. The energy in the room was simply electric, it crackled with life and laughter. It was pure, beautiful, vibrant magic.

By the time the evening was done, my tutu had a touch more glitter, my feathers were a tad more ruffled, but my heart was full to the brim with the love I felt in that space, surrounded by people of all ages, shapes, and sizes who were celebrating joy and joy alone.

As I boarded the train, tired but absolutely exhilarated, I couldn't help but feel that Portsmouh was just the perfect kind of place for the Pink Tutu spirit to thrive. A vibrant mix of historical grandeur and modern spirit. What's not to love? If you're looking for a destination that truly celebrates joy, where history meets glamour, and where the ordinary turns into the extraordinary, then Portsmouh is the place for you, darling! You'll see - I might even inspire you to embrace the pink tutu spirit and join me in making the world a brighter, more fabulous place, one twirl at a time.

And I, your Pink Tutu Queen, shall be back with another adventures, my lovelies.

See you all soon.

Love and twirls,

Pink Tutu Sparkles x
